The USS St. Paul battle cruiser served in three wars and fired more rounds of ammunition than any other US cruiser. The ship's bell is displayed at city hall.
my father was one of the survivors from the explosion in the powder room. he was critically injured but survived. thanks for putting this video online.
Served on the Saint Paul in 1968-1969 made two WesPac cruises to Vietnam, my third tour was in country Vietnam and I went out on a SWIFT boat to trade to get some ice cream when she stopped in mouth of DaNang Harbor, last time I ever saw her.
I was aboard USS Joseph Strauss DDG-16 in 1970 right next to USS Saint Paul on the gunline off the coast of South Vietnam. Both ships were firing shells! Saint Paul had 8" guns. Strauss had 5" guns but had missiles and AZROC. A shipmate and I toured Saint Paul when both ships were in port. One of my best memories of my time in the Navy and two West-Pac tours that included most of the time off the coast of South Vietnam.
My Dad was a CPO on The Saint Paul and I got to board with my dad and mom and baby sister when it came to Long Beach California. He served during end WII through Korea and loved his Pacific Tour and I still have his tour book.
watched another video on here set to blue navy blue song and pictures of the ship during vietnam. I agree she should have been made a museum what a beautiful ship.
Mike might have pointed out there is a new 2006 edition of my book, The Street Where You Live, expanded to cover most of the street and place names in St. Paul.
Very nice tribute! Too bad they kept using the term battlecruiser, except once, when they used the correct term " heavy cruiser," in describing the USS St. Paul. Battlecruisers were a totally different type of ship.

My old man served aboard her 58-64. I have his painting of her leaving Tokyo bay, along with his Navy yearbooks from the ship. Very precious memories
