    I like how genuine and transparent you are. And how you set yourself apart from the other channels. And I would have to agree with you I look at knives the same way. I have cheap ones that I like more than some expensive ones. I watch other channels and dream big but a channel like this is more practical for most of the knife community.

    The CJRB looks fine, especially in carbon fiber, but I do wonder why didn’t CJRB doesn’t cough up and make the blade have dual thumb studs or at least a front flipper tab? I mean yeah the liner lock and pocket clip set up is definitely meant for right-handed people, but if left-handed people could adjust to handle the liner lock with their left-hand fingers and okay with carrying the knife with the pocket clip set up, then CJRB should at least put an extra thumb stud, or at least put a front flipper tab, so there is at least effective one-handed blade opening for left-handed people.
    I don’t know why that happens in folding knife manufacturing?

    • @TheUnprofessionalDad
      @TheUnprofessionalDad  18 годин тому

      I'm left-handed also, so I feel your reasoning behind asking that. I believe, and I'm probably wrong, that they are trying to keep costs down as much as possible. By offering a reversible thumb studd, they make the attempt to cater to left users. Even though the attempt is an extremely lazy attempt.

    • @kevinx7015
      @kevinx7015 17 годин тому

      @ Yeah, I agree. I’m not left handed myself but I do like to shift from hand to hand when just fidgeting with a knife and it amazes me just how most folding knife designs are soo geared for just right-hand use.

    Only problem with the dundee in magnacut is the geometry is just to thick for a Edc knife. I have the mini dundee and the same thing the geometry is to thick and the D2 on that knife is done poorly, my Bestechman Glok in 14c is done decently but any D2 I had from them has been done poorly so I started staying away.
    Also the cold steel SRK comes in SK5 or cpm 3v. So yours is SK5 not 1095, the are both simple carbon steels but they are different compositions. SK5 is a Japanese made composition that is very similar to 1080 carbon. Just think of it as a basic spring steel with some added chromium. Extremely tough stuff SK5 is and takes such a beautiful edge.

    Hey Chris. Sorry you got the wrong box. You still had some great knives in there! Yeah as you know I can testify as to the SRK. I really liked the blade profile of the CJRB. It has a really nice belly to it. The besttecman is nice also. You can dye g10 with RIT. I would be concerned about keeping it clean as well. Especially since the white and black just look so great together. I hope you get the package you were expecting tomorrow. That layup does seem like a great knife. I like kershaw alot. They probably make over 10 that I really have my eye on and will wind up with sooner or later. I have to try to make myself branch out because I have more kershaw knives than anything.
    Very true words about loving your collection! Almost all of my knives are in the 40 to 60 dollar range. I have a few that are pushing 200 bucks but not many. And yeah I love them all. It was disappointing at first when I got on you tube. I'm pretty new to it. Once I started watching knife videos I was like well dang. My knives suck. But that's not true at all. Yes they make alot of knives with awesome steel and titanium and quenched in unicorn tears but every single one I have works. And I take pride in them. They are clean, organized together and kept at the best edge my skill is able to keep them. And I have gotten pretty dang good at honing my blades. Most people when I ask cool knife, what kind of blade does it have? They give me a blank stare and say....steel like I'm an idiot. They wouldn't know s35vn from 1095. Any way it's real refreshing to watch your videos. You are real down to Earth and have a great approach. Keep them coming. Thanks for the shout out. I think you are a pretty awesome and good guy your self! I can't wait to see what you were expecting to get today. The Belair as I'm sure you guessed is pretty high on my wish list. Seems like a USA made super Iridium. I'd like you take on it.

I wish I knew more about knife maitanice back then. I kept it the way it is because it has some stories to tell. Again I can't wait to see what you got coming! It's gotta be awesome! • @TheUnprofessionalDad
      @TheUnprofessionalDad  День тому +1

      No, not at all. Ask away. I appreciate good questions like that. OK, so I grew up in a rough situation, but one thing I had going was I was extremely athletic. I played all sports, but martial arts was by far my favorite. I was in a bunch of tournaments and stuff. Because of that, I loved swords and Tsai and other weapons.
      Then I grew up and became an extreme pepper, and I spent 2 yrs living in a tent. I had money and a good career, but I loved the minimalistic and survivalist lifestyle. These two things built a fundamental love of knives and axes and machetes and swords and on and on. Not as a collector, though.
      Then, out of nowhere, my world changed. I was taking my boys into daycare one morning and was standing outside of my car. I had removed one son from his car seat and was removing the second. I heard something and looked back. Just in time, I shoved my young son Abel out of the way, just before she nailed me. I was pinned between the vehicles, and it sucked! That 1 moment changed everything for me. For the next year, I could barely walk most days. My back was messed up. My legs have never been the same. I spent a lot of time lounging around bored and with little to do. I was part owner of a store where we sold knives and prepper "stuff," and I started taking a few home for myself. then a few knifecenter videos.later and I was hooked. I found something I loved that took my focus and gave me something to enjoy during a rough patch in life. Knives were an outlet. The more I dug, the more I loved them. The more I talked to other people and heard their stories and saw their collections, the more I wanted to build my own.
      Now, a couple of years later, they are my main hobby and the 1 thing I get to do for myself. I raise my 4 little boys, and they get 95% of.me and.my time. My knives get the other 5%. Or should I say, I get to play with knives the other 5%. That's it in a nutshell. I hope that wasn't to long and drawn out. That is the story, though, as boring as it is.

    LOL. Four times longer than most unboxing videos on a package that didn't even arrive. I made it to minute 23, but I just can't hold out till the end, bro.
    I sure hope you figure out how to tighten these videos up.
    I bet you could shorten them by about 20% if you could just cut the virtue signaling. 😁. We already know you're a good guy.
    BTW, your description of the relationship between Sencut, Civivi, and We wasn't completely accurate. It sounded like you were saying they put out the same models under each brand and simply change the materials and level of craftsmanship to match the price point. Not true.
    There have been a couple times that similar models have been released under the We and Civivi brands, e.g. Banter and Baby Banter, Vision FG and Vision R, but these are exceptions. The three brands manufacture different models under different philosophies.
    Bestechman was launched pretty recently. In the past, Bestech did do a lot of budget oriented knives. Then they launched the new brand and started doing most of their budget stuff under that brand.
    I still see some budget stuff u fee the Bestech Brand, I think. I haven't really kept up.
    Hey, have you ever checked out the Bestech Hornet in D2. I love that knife. Mine has shredded mountains of cardboard, and that D2 edge holds up quite nicely, like good D2 should.
    I can loan you mine if you want to check it out some time. Although I still think you can get them for under $70.
    I'm out, brother. I tried to hang till the end.

    • @TheUnprofessionalDad
      @TheUnprofessionalDad  День тому

      I appreciate your comment, i truly do. I appreciate the time you took to give me some pointers on how to make the videos better. I've been doing this for a month, well a little longer, but that's not the point. I want to make the best videos I can, and I take every comment to heart, not through thin skin, and try to see what i can learn from it. I've have comme ts telling me to make the videos longer and that some enjoy the conversation style. I've had a coupme.messages telling me they are too long. Trust me, I want to find the happy median, and with more experience, I will. I also appreciate the comment about the kind of guy I am! Greatly. As for the virtue signaling, it may be because I'm on this side of the paper that I don't see what you're meaning, but I trust you that it's coming off that way. Maybe an example that I can use to reference and see where I'm giving that impression?? That's the last thing I'm trying to do! I can take criticism, no worries there. A man who can't will soon find himself surrou ded by those who love everything about him, even though he will be standing alone. Like I said, I'm still trying to figure this whole thing out, but it's a lot of work, and its in the middle of a minefield of many people and their different interests, likes, and tastes. Trying to be a flavor that everyone can indulge is difficult, and that is a lesson I have learned rather quickly.

  • @Philippians--vz1mi
    @Philippians--vz1mi День тому +3

    G'day Chris hope you're not in too much pain today mate, right! two things. Firstly, a collection of knives is simply knives that the person collecting is fond of or partial to, dollar value doesn't even factor into it, I've literally got a $45Aud knife which would make it around $29Usd that I absolutely love & I can put it next to a knife that cost me $300Aud or $400Aud & still look at, feel in hand & use my $45 D2 Tassie Tiger front flipper with its long bellied reverse tanto blade & smile & go YEP!! I know why I bought you jack!! The truth is that we all live in a world that because of ego or whatever, turns the majority of things into a giant PISSING CONTEST, "Oh mine has this handle" "well yeah but mine has this steel" "OH YEAH, well mine run on Skiff 5mm 3/64th's" "Oh yeah, WELL, I sharpen mine on," "WELL HECK MAN.... I keep mine in A MAHOGANY DISPLAY CASE..... lol" You all get my point I'm sure, what it boils down to is this, DO YOU LIKE USE OR ADMIRE THE KNIVES YOU BOUGHT??? well then what the heck does it matter what John, Frank, Shirley or Sally think??? I mean collecting knives, using knives "AS THE TOOLS" they are, & sharing the passion of collecting is truly a wonderful blessing, but if people are only collecting knives so they can enter into the global "knife culture" pissing contest, to one-up their fellow knife enthusiasts with a "BETTER" piece, then I'm sorry but at that point the whole knife collecting/using passion is lost & has no real meaning, NOW, do we ALL like & enjoy top quality knives made with top quality materials, that give us top quality performance?? of course we do!! BUT everyone needs to understand, "we must crawl before we can walk, & we must walk before we can run" I mean I love Traditionals GEC'S, Schat & Morgan, Otter ect.... now do you think we can get GEC's in Australia?? NOPE!! & if we could, it would be the beans & sausage one that would sell out at top dollar in 5 seconds flat, but what we can & DO get are the wonderful German made Otter's & I've got a decent collection of them (I love Case, but their quality control is poor/cannot justify the money for their terrible fit and finish issues & blade play you could park a truck in) NOW my point is, is my traditional collection any less interesting or of a lower standing than that of our "spoilt"/joking, American friends who literally have collections of EVERY GEC ever made?? NO it's not, it's not more than, nor is it less than, it's simply a different collection, & THAT'S WHAT MAKES COLLECTING SO ENJOYABLE, our personal & unique/to ourselves collections, are quite literally an extension of our own personalities, our own bladed likes & dislikes, they are individually unique to us, original to & made by us, & for us, all the while resembling us, it's NOT a competition, it's a passion. You guys think there aren't some old school lads & ladies out there who literally have collections that make Jared Neeves & Metal Complex's collections look like the "Teletubbies blunt edge hour"??? no matter how many endless freebies those blokes get?? because I guarantee there's a 70 or 80 year old guy or gal someplace who's collections utterly destroy MC's or NK collections, & I guarantee those two guys don't love & enjoy their knives more than a man or a woman who's worked their backsides off to afford the 5 or 7 knives they REALLY love & enjoy, & sorry Jared Neeves you know your stuff mate you really do, but running men's cologne ads & health supplement ads is a BIG OLD FAT UNSUBSCRIBE FROM ME THERE JACK!!! LOL, I'm a man & I know what I smell like thanks Jared, now can we talk knives & leave the beauty tips for the pink shirt wearing females please???? lol sorry Chris lol I know you like pink hahah I had to mate hahah. Ps, Chris sorry bro, but your brother is technically right, D2, AUS10, 154CM, S30V, S35VN, S90V, CPM20CV or it's very close relative BM390 ALL CUT THE SAME when they have a decent edge put on them & that's just a fact, after that it's semantics regarding edge retention & edge durability lol I collect because, I'm not married, I have no children, I don't have to pay child support, it's just me & my dogs, the great thing about dog's is EVERYTHING!!! &..........THEY DON'T LOOK AT YOU WITH A SCOWL ON THEIR FACES, SAYING REALLY??? ANOTHER KNIFE??? **PAW SLAPS K9 FOREHEAD** LOL keep it up brother your vid's are awesome mate!! PS, fret not regarding the CSS, just think of it this way Chris, 25% more anticipation has been added to the unboxing process LOL

      I don't even want to add anything to this! I just want to copy and paste on every dang knife channel and knife redit page and group out there! I agree with every single thing you said. Only you said it far better than I could have!! Well, there are 2 things I have to take objection to, and only 2. 1: I will never, as long as it live, admit to my brother that he was right (even if i knew when he was saying it that he was. Lol) 2. Hey! Pink shirts are great!! Haha! Like I said, I love your comments and insight! Not because you like.my videos, but because you like Him, and that gives you a perspective that witnesses the world and the trivial in a way that only His influence can bring. I hope everyone takes the time to read what you had to say, and then agrees with me about pink shirts!!!
