For the explanation Choso gives on why he sees Yuji as his little brother is cut down a little bit in the anime so I'll give the explanation from the chapter. Choso explains that his version of blood manipulation grant him a connection to his family and with this connection his curse technique will inform him if any of his brothers are near death. This is why back in season one he knew the instant two of them had died. So what happens when Yuji was about to die is that his curse technique reacted making Yuji as family this is what the picnic scene means showing them all together as siblings. So essentially Choso curse technique having a connection to Yuji proves that in someway they are brothers. In KoL's defense literally everyone thought that Yuji instead somehow influenced the curse technique to make Choso see him as family, so much so that outside the manga Gege had to state that no the explanation given is the actual explanation.

Why is it bad that characters can die? This always existed in AOT and no one complained about that. I find it rather more annoying if all the main cast have mad plot armor to the point where they even come back to life after dying. Its far better if characters die over time in a story rather than multiple deaths straight in the last arc. I don't know why Kol thinks its a bad thing. Everyone knew characters could die at any moment in AOT but that didn't stop them from loving them.

Honestly in JJK defense on the Akame ga kill callback, we only saw 5 named people die this arc 6 if you wanna include Mechamaru's battery dying and two of them were villains. It for sure ups the stakes but its not even close to the territory of "Oh i cant get attached to these walking death flag characters" like Akame ga kill where they killed off 4 main characters an arc/episode. Also everyone dying in 12 episodes or like less than a quarter of the cast in 40 episodes.
For the anime/manga veteran you have seen more than 50 anime read nearly every book in that count maybe more, it's hard to reset the top five with new series. JJK came at a time when Shonen Jump was on a cancellation streak, and it faithfully pulled through and set its own wanted pace. You can get into what this series is doing ups and downs, wild decisions, creative writing this series has its own style. There is more pieces to Yuji I still scratch my head on the next one, the man who went on do it yourself mode is Kenjaku, he goes from background manipulator with the schemes to these hands are lethal.

Honestly in JJK defense on the Akame ga kill callback, we only saw 5 named people die this arc 6 if you wanna include Mechamaru's battery dying and two of them were villains. It for sure ups the stakes but its not even close to the territory of "Oh i cant get attached to these walking death flag characters" like Akame ga kill where they killed off 4 main characters an arc/episode. Also everyone dying in 12 episodes or like less than a quarter of the cast in 40 episodes.
