  • SEOUL, Dec. 27 (Yonhap) -- Uhm Jung-hwa made it official that she embarked on a eight-year-long audible return by unveiling a preview of "Watch Me Move," the lead track of her new album "The Cloud Dream of the Nine."
This legendary K-pop diva, sometimes dubbed "the Korean Madonna," has been making a lot of noise as she revealed the preview Friday afternoon, which was recognized as the public announcement of the "return of the Queen of K-pop."
She is the one who has kept pulling off a hugely difficult feat over the past 20 years in the K-pop scene, always staying out of box and being likable at the same time. As she would go a few steps ahead while others preferred to be sheltered in trends, Uhm shows off her "myself" bravado again in the clip in a metallic fresh-off-the-UFO costume and grotesque makeup over psychedelic music blaring in the background.
Judging by snippets of her charismatic choreography featured in the video, it should be plausible to say it bears an almost perfect resemblance to her classic renditions of "Poison," "Don't Know" and "D.I.S.C.O.," belying her 47 years.
A lot of K-pop fans who welcome her return that took nearly a decade are already complaining that they can't wait until the premiere of the full video of "Watch Me Move."
The leading opus off "The Cloud Dream of the Nine," Uhm's first new album since 2008's "D.I.S.C.O.," is produced by Shin Hyuk, who had composed some of Exo and Shinee's songs, and is a clubby dance number incorporating elements of deep house over a very fast tempo with pulsating beats.
"The Cloud Dream of the Nine," named after an old classic of Korean literature, consists of nine tracks representing nine individual dreams, boasting its double-leaders "Watch Me Move" and "Dreamer" composed by well-known singer-songwriter Yoon-sang, and "Oh Yeah" featuring Jonghyun from Shinee. Besides, as superstar Lee Hyori's participation as a vocal guest was revealed, the expectation of the album was propelled even higher.
Meanwhile, midnight on Tuesday marked the release of the awaited album and K-pop fans, particularly in their thirties and forties reminiscing about the cultural golden age of South Korea from the mid to late 90s, all turn their eyes to her.
