Just the way I’d wrap my kids up when they were newborns in their receiving blankets! Lol... not only keeps one warm but provides a subconscious sense of security as well I’m sure... love your informational and short videos...not much time to sit for some of the much longer ones at time so I can slip these in all day and still get my Bushcraft UA-cam fix! Thanks!

Great video and probably the best wool blanket show I have seen. You should stress more of using ground insulation since the ground will suck out body heat three times that of air. Also, your advantage is the size, whereas bivouac people use government surplus blankets are not cut so big. Also, the blanket you are demonstraiting is not tightly woven with boiled wool that can take the beating as a military blanket can but I like the application of the large blanket as a trade-off, which is why I use the Hudson Bay 6-point. Additionally, you will find that you achieve a better berito wrap if you use a rectangle blanket such as the HBC 4-point about 90×74 or so. But then there is the Swiss Army blanket.

Whether we do it your way (the better way) or the first way that you showed, I was thinking that ideally you bring a 2nd wool blanket, fold that in half as your base, and now we have 3 or 4 wool layers between us and the ground instead of 1 or 2. Of course I’m more interested in car camping where packing weight isn’t a big issue

so way back in 2010 i had this video demo'ing this method. it became quite popular. then I went to the 2010 Pathfinder gathering and two Gentlemen walked up too me and asked if i was the person who had done the wool blanket wrap video they had seen posted on a few forums. i said yes, of course i was. they asked me to do a demo for them and show them first hand....so i did.
suddenly i felt as if something was wrong... the guys were not paying attention anymore, so i looked over my shoulder and there is Dave. "hey Morgan? whatcha doin?"
of course i was quite embarrassed because , well, i am not a instructor, yet here i am teaching at Dave's gathering.... i was expecting to get blasted. but the last thing i ever expected actually happened. Dave said "how come you are not teaching the rest of us!"
so he put me up in front of the whole gathering and I taught everyone this method of how too wrap up in a wool blanket.
best part was when Iris walked over and said...."oh look, Morgan's is all swaddled up like a baby!" the whole place fell into laughter.... and well that was that.
you just got subbed for bringing back a wonderful memory for me. thanks bro.

Good info, thanks! One of the biggest mistakes people make is trying to insulate themselves from the wind but not the ground! Btw, how thick is your blanket and where did you get it? Mine is 90" x 120" which I like better but it's not the highest quality!

kabaruser sleeping bage certainly have their place, but a military wool blanket is garbage compared to a true high quality wool blanket.

What size is the blanket you are using in the demonstration?
I think my wool blanket is too small to use in that fashion.

Dan... I found your channel last night and I'm subbed! I like your presentation.. keep the videos coming.
I am about the same weight as you and a couple inches taller and find that 2 twin size blankets work way better for me than a single queen or king size. They are easier to regulate heat and warmer than one blanket. They are also more versatile for other uses.
Will you be doing more traditional/reenacting/muzzleloading type videos?
    Thanks for the video..
    Shad

How do you use those 2 twin size blankets to wrap yourself for the night, pls?

    • @shadowcastre
      @shadowcastre 3 роки тому +1

      @@michalurbanful
The simplest way for the night is to use the burrito method with one blanket for the lower half (chest to feet) then take the 2nd blanket, turn it sideways, drape it over your shoulders leaving room for an optional hood and your set. Tighten or loosen the wrap as needed for both upper and lower!

looks like this method wraps your legs up pretty snug which decreases dead air space and can be pretty uncomfortable, unless you like to sleep like a vampire in a coffin .
