People in the UK have this annoying habit of planting shrubs and trees on the edges of their garden, so they don't lose too much of their space, but instead of that they expand their garden by taking up their neighbours garden. If someone doesn't have enough space for a tree (or doesn't want to use it all) than should not plant the tree.

Thank you for the video, found this very useful and it confirmed my research. I still think that law is not sufficient in this matter and allows horrible nuisance to be caused.

The law varies from country to country, state to state, and even city to city. However, I think it’s highly inconsistent and illogical that overhanging beaches are your responsibility, and yet you do not get to own the branches or fruits. If the neighbor doesn’t want you to have those things, they are free to prevent you from getting them by either maintaining the tree themselves, or by paying you to not take them. But if it’s your responsibility, you should have ownership over it.

Do not go to law- lawyers just change the issue to a boundary dispute. Lawyers are allowed to go on to your land, cut down your trees, and build where the the trees where, (they do not need to comply with planning or reveal agreements they have made and then you are stuck with the issue of roots on this new building).

Thank you for info - It's great - Question: What if the tree roots are causing damage to a path at the side of the house?

If the hedge overhangs their boundary, nothing.
You could ask them to dispose of them but they are entirely within their rights to cut down the overhang.

Do you have any practical experience. It is all very well quoting the law that is everywhere on the web, but what about in Practice. The reality is the Police, council and authorities do not want to know. Go to court and it will cost £housands, but you’ll be lucky to get back a hundred. The value of the trees that you can replant. It seems if you have a problem, cut the tree down. It may be classed as criminal damage, but todays toothless lazy Police won’t prosecute. It will cost the owner thousands to get back a hundred. If the neighbour attacks you for cutting down their trees sue them and you’ll be thousands in pocket 🤬
