- Never did I imagine a horse like Arrogate would come along and give the world something they had never seen before, and never did I imagine him being taken too soon. On June 2, 2020, Arrogate passed away due to a neurological issue on his neck.
Personally, it`s still sinking in and it will probably take some time, but I wanted to do more of a happier tribute for him than a sad one. As much as I'll grieve about him, it should also be clear just how amazing he truly was.

I am so very sorry for the loss of this most amazingly handsome Horse.
He was freaky fast. He proved his greatness. It's sad he was not able to continue as a stallion.
My prayers and condolences to every one who were with him.
I am saddened by his passing.
Got to see him run twice!! What a beautiful silver racehorse. Extremely fit and his strides were magnificent!!

@@Yungshiner-nj1wy I cant remember what sickness got him. I think It may have been colic, but because it was so bad and made him so weak he had to be humanely euthanized

One of the greats of horse racing history. Loved when he came to run at Gulfstream Park, always fan and picture friendly on the backside. Like so many stars...died way too young. Such a stride for a physically huge horse. Enjoy horsey heaven big guy, you are in good company.

Devastating how many of the modern greats have died prematurely these last few years. For sheer 'astonishing-ness' of performance over such a short time, Arrogate's career seems unmatched. The Travers, the Pegasus world championships, Breeders Cup, Dubai world cup. Stunning. came blazing out of nowhere like a comet and then just gone.
He had such an effortless galloping stride: very special: his premature loss is tragic 😰
Better to live 100 days a lion than 1000 as a sheep !!!!!!!!!!!!! Brilliance isn't eternal and to have witnessed such an animal, you are truly blessed !!!!!!!!!!

He retired way before 7.
I thought no one can beat to California Chrome but he did and after this I love him. He was the magic unforgettable horse in the history (RIP) Missing :(

LISA MORGAN Yes Breyer made models of all three and I have all of them! I’m sure you can buy them on Amazon or eBay.
Breyer also made Christmas ornaments of Rachel and Zenyatta but they are expensive as they are hard to find. Good luck! 👍🍀

After the Dubai race something happened to him that doctors didn’t know. I am deeply saddened when he left 😢. I miss him every day
Guess we’ll never know when the cracked vertebrae which reportedly led to his demise occurred ( ultimately prevented him from standing back up)

His legacy lives on in his prodigy as proven by Seize the Grey's Preakness win. He stamped his offspring with his looks and hopefully one of his colts will be able to carry on his legacy.
Baffert said he would've thrown him amongst secretariat as one of the best racehorses this world has ever seen. Truly loved to run. May you Rest In Peace Arrogate.
He is not a all time great. Good horse but not a all timer. All timers break world records not just track records. You could throw him against secretariat but it would t work out for him.

@@mikewarren1401 I do not compare it with the secretariat statistically, I only say that this horse in its best moment you put it in a race against anyone and I bet on the first ones without a doubt
You can run him but he would lose. He would lose to spectacular bid as well. He has the world record for a mile and a quarter. 1:57 4/5. Secretariat mike and a half 2:24. Those are records that will never be beaten. Arrogate is a top 5 horse for this century. He would have got beaten by Ghost Zapper this century if they would ha e run.

Shocking news! Very sad, indeed. When he came back from Dubai, he was never the same...it was like he wanted to veer to his right, his neck and head seemed to tilt that way. I wondered if something was wrong...he never regained form. Hoping we get the results which can tell us what may have happened to him...was he neurologically damaged? I was a huge Chrome fan, but Arrogate had a magnificent, if fleeting, time on the track...RIP...shedding a tear for Arrogate...Update: posted before seeing you mention of his neck...i haven't read any stories about that...will check to see if I missed anything...
I always thought there was something wrong with him after Dubai especially when he didn’t race for five months afterwards. I believe they (meaning Baffert and vets) were trying to treat him for an issue they did not want to reveal to the public.
They kept saying he didn’t like the Del Mar racing surface. I never believed that was the reason for his inexplicable loss of form.
When I heard the news about his premature death due to a neurological disorder I immediately thought that was the reason why he lost his last 3 races and why he was retired.
Arrogate was a large horse and probably predisposed to stress in his neck and spine. I think those four incredible races he won caused irreparable damage from which he never fully recovered.
Breeding also puts a great deal of stress on the neck and spine of a stallion. Sadly it didn’t take very long before his injuries claimed his life.
RIP Arrogate. You are now at peace.

Along with Spectacular Bid, the only horse to make me wonder if I was looking at a dirt runner as great as Secretariat. edit: Talking of horses I saw run, on TV. My lifetime overlapped with the careers of Kelso and Dr. Fager, but I was a young child, so I know those two and the earlier greats solely from reading (and vids). It had been in 1971 and Canonero II's run at the Triple Crown that I became seriously interested in the sport.
I knew of Secretariat (and Affirmed, Alydar, Ruffian, Bid, Slew, et. al., during their 2-yr-old campaigns.)
Big Red lost 4X The Ragozin Sheets, the oldest and Best speed figs since the sixties fastest horses ever do not include Big Red. Only three horses Ran speed figs that were Neg-3, Dr.Fager. Ghostzapper and Arrogate. The lower the number the faster the race.

Finally justice for Arrogate. A victim of greed and inhumane treatment by an outsider marrying into the family business. His unsavory business practices bankrupted one of the okdedt prestigious breeding farms of thoroughbreds and attempted to pay with Arrogates life. He did for a while until years later a keen auditor investigated the claim to the insurance companies file. The case raised her eyebrows. Under investigation the murderer was arrested and brought to justice. RIP beautiful boy. You were never meant for more than you were.....perfect! Kisses and love to one of the greatest ever.
What the heck? *You are talking about ALYDAR.* The 15-year-old Alydar -- longtime rival of Triple Crown winner Affirmed -- died in 1990 at Calumet Farm after breaking his leg in his stall under circumstances many find suspicious. He was euthanized the next day, after surgery failed. Ten years later two Calumet executives were found guilty of fraud, though their sentences did not actually find them guilty of arranging the killing of Alydar. See: "Prison for Lundy and Matthews, Alydar Part of Hearing" BloodHorse article by Eric Mitchell October 19, 2000. A groom had previously been convicted of perjury.
As for "justice" for Arrogate, who raced 2016-2017 and died in June 2020 -- his death was natural. After a brief period of neck soreness, he suddenly became paralyzed and unable to stand. For three days he was treated at a prominent equine hospital, to no avail, until he developed serious complications and was put down. A necropsy determined he had a lesion on his spinal cord, believed to be from an unobserved self-inflicted injury.

Have they a real cause of death? What is a neurological issue on his neck? Neurological is the brain.
Young horses don’t just die or get sick unless there’s an under lying reason

core lesion in his spinal cord that basically rendered him a quadriplegic, horses can't survive lying down for long periods of time so after secondary issues set in he was euthanized.

i cried for him when he died. you can mend horse's neck's 18 month's in a neck brace. it as been done. one of my horse's had the same as arrogate and we mended him. with all the love and money we have and bingo he is mended and running around in his field after 18 month's in a neck brace. he came to us 18 months ago because his owner did not want him because he cannot race no more so not making him any more money so throw him away like trash. we mended him and now his all good again. he will never race again but he as his life back. some people cannot be bothered to mend them at all, rather then try to mend them they put them tp sleep. because they can no longer make them money. black night as we call him had neurological issue on his neck, we mended him now he is free from pain. no longer carrys his head to one side.. it can be done just people cannot be arssed...
I’m afraid you are correct in your assessment. He was probably insured for mega money. What a shame.
