I went to Montreal from my home in Minnesota in 1967 to celebrate Expo 67 coinciding with the centennial. Only recently have I been buying gold and silver and I was getting bored so I asked my LCS for any foreign chunky silver and specifically asked for the Canadian silver dollar with the goose. I bought an XF toned one for $13 and 4 BU capsule 1964 Charlottetowns for $14 each. I really cherish them. I've often heard that Canadians don't appreciate their junk silver much.
Where can you find junk sliver like this, as a teen on a budget. This seems like a good way of getting some really cool coins at a lower price compared to buying it directly for another collector
For sure - some older coins are very much out of reach financially for a lot of people (myself included) when they're in higher grades. But the same coin in a lower grade could be considered 'junk' silver. Many coin shops will buy and sell silver coins based on their bullion value. Just ask and see. Good lucki!
Thanks so much for watching - I really appreciate it, and I'm glad you're enjoying my videos! I just get them from a local coin shop that buys and sells a lot of silver, gold, etc.
That's a great question. Coins destined for collector sets were considered "Proof-Like." The Charlton Guide does list pricing for SP-63 and SP-65, but I'm not actually aware of a 'Specimen' finish or what would differentiate a 'Specimen' coin from a proof-like.
@@CADRollHunter Ooh I think that finish where the object/portrait blends in instead of being frosted is what separates them because even ware doesn't completely remove the frosting. But I could be wrong.
I’m a total sucker for beautiful toning!
Super jealous, James! These coins would be great additions to anyone's albums!
No doubt. Is it wrong to love the toners as much as the BU ones?!
Great junk silver and history!
Thanks again for watching! Much apprecfiated!
Another informative video James. Keep them coming.
Thanks so much!
Nice find james
Thanks!
I like canadian coins, wish i had more canadian pennies.

I for sure love my Canadian silver. I might have to wait a bit until the prices come down before I make another big purchase, though!
hear you helped out John Chum with the Saskatchewan loonie . Nice of you😎😎👍👍
You may have been misinformed! It must have been someone else!

Nice presentation, James.
Thank you kindly!!

Fantastic. Thanks for showing us these wonderful coins. I love the toning especially on the Voyager silver dollar.
Thanks so much - the toning on those was incredible. I couldn't pass them up!
Are you coming to Ottawa this weekend for mint exchange 10 am to 4 pm
No, unfortunately I won't be there! Hopefully they'll have an event closer to where I am in Southwestern Ontario!
Junk silver or not, those Canadian coins are beautiful. Like the designs of One Dollar coins. Thanks for sharing more knowledge.
Thanks for watching!
Awesome coins👍👍❤️
Thanks!!
I found my first Canadian bird cent a few days ago, I live in America so it's a pretty cool find
That is a great find - what kind of condition was it in?
@@CADRollHunter probably in VF
Nice pickups. You got some nice coins out of the scrap bin
I love finding gems in there!
Some of those coins are absolutely beautiful. Even that 1939 toned dollar is not too shabby.
Thanks! I quite like those really toned ones. It would be an interesting pursuit to see if you could fill an album with dark toners like that!
I buy some... Last time I went there was only dimes... I have a dime book! My dealer let's me cherrypick too! 😮
That's great! Unfortunately silver has gotten expensive recently. I might wait a bit to see if the price comes down before I buy another lot.
@@CADRollHunter me too
Beauties!
Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
Because of your channel I've begun to add old (not junk) Canadian silver to my collection. Keep up the great videos!
That is awesome, Robert! Definitely not junk!
Where Do you get all that silver? And do you have any tips to find old banknote? I am from Québec and I watch all your videos!

Beautiful additions brother. Was hoping to see the collection for upgrades. Maybe a future video?
For sure in a future video!
Isn't the 66 one referred to as a specimen?

junk silver IS JUNK. LCS's will always pay spot for it, but if you want to buy it than its 12-14x Face.
Enjoy
Quite a bit more that 12-14x face, actually!
