- Pawnee Rock, located in Barton County, Kansas; is one of the most important landmarks of the Santa Fe Trail-it being the halfway point. Learn what Robert Wright thought of Pawnee Rock when he first saw it in 1859.
Me. Robert Wright had a wonderful way with words. Poetic and humorous. This was a great story told in a way that was welcoming to the hearer. Thank you..
Excellent story 👏 and always interesting 👍 thank you, Mike
Thank you for taking me to another place I've never been or heard of, appreciate your dedicated work.
So ... The Native tribes in that area even had one of their most treasured meeting places taken away piece by piece, till it was half gone. Really adding insult to injury.
Yup. Not sure how much was carried away, as there doesn't seem to be much consensus, and all the photographs taken seem to be after the stone was removed. Castle Rock and Monument Rocks (both in Kansas) have also suffered from people-visitors climbed them and they've started falling apart in places.
I downloaded his book, but haven't started it. Another interesting and informative video, thanks for all your hard work.
Glad you downloaded his book-I'm going to do some more videos about excerpts from Wright's book. You'll have to let me know what you think of "Dodge City the Cowboy Capital" once you've read it.
That one photo at 4:05 looks like it may have been before the rock was whittled down very much.
love this thanks
Glad you liked it!
You are so much appreciated for your dedication in bringing us history about the Wild West. So sad how everything was taken from the Native Americans.
I am looking to download your book but I can’t locate it
