@qkatie- this video brought me to tears. I am a second generation italian american on my Dad's side. I've always wanted dual citizenship but the paperwork from my grandparents is figuratively "held hostage" by my oldest cousin who took them from my parent's home upon my father's passing. This video means and has taught me so much. I can begin this journey. Thank you so much.

Wow, my grandparents (mother’s parents) are both from Sicily. In 2018 I got to go there and visited my grandmother’s town. I went to the town hall where a gentleman took out old records of my ancestors going back into the 1700’s. It was incredible and gave me a sense of family history. Driving through the hilly countryside all my grandmother’s stories about her childhood and home came to life. Thank you grandma for your rich stories and taking time to tell them to me.

Congrats on moving to the Puglia region! I am an American and I too lived in Puglia 40 years ago when I was in the USAF. I lived in the region near Brindisi in a town called San Vito. Living in Italy gets under your skin. It's an incredible experience. The people, the food, the culture, the pace of life... I spent 2 years there and the memories are still fresh. I often feel "homesick" for it. I hope that you enjoy every moment!

I'm an American who has spend a lot of time in Italy (married to a Campano from near Salerno) and Puglia is THE BEST. Such a beautiful region. I've been to Trani (gorgeous) but spent more time further south in the Salento. I hope you get to go to Lecce, Otranto, Gallipoli, Santa Maria di Leuca - everything. It's all breathtaking. Delicious food, wonderful beaches, great weather, relatively few American tourists, and friendly people. The Pugliese dialect is amazing, and in some towns the dialect is even based on ancient Greek!

I'm glad that you didn't take seriously the bile coming from some Northern Italians. Jerks are jerks at all latitudes, and the north/south divide is strongly felt in Italy.
That being said, as a northerner myself I would suggest you to try and spend some time exploring the North too (when the times will allow it).
It passes as the serious, kinda boring, no nonsense, workaholic part of the country, but there are many amazing places, especially smaller towns, and the "feel" of the country is quite different from the south, yet equally charming. You will see. You might even experience a mild cultural shock, after being used to life in Trani. But a good one!

As pugliese I'm really happy to see all these foreigners moving to our cities and towns to start a new life, settle down or just for few months as digital nomads.
I had to move out from my home town years ago (Foggia, not probably the best place in Italy but still it has some potential and the coast is absolutely amazing: please go have a look at Vieste or Mattinata or Tremiti islands.. the last one is just outstanding), I am currently living and working in the South of Spain (can't really complain, can I?) but still seeing people like you talking about my region in such a good way really makes me proud of the bond of blood I have with my land.
Puglia is an amazing place, I wish I had the chance to go back and live again there: Bari, Lecce, Foggia, Taranto or Brindisi. I wouldn't even care WHERE.
I really hope you will have the chance to travel for the entire hill: it will make you realise how incredibly different and motley my region is.

As a citizen of Bergamo, which is in norther italy, i find your idea to move to souther italy the best to live a real italian Experience! Yes, maybe in the north you would find more people speaking in english, more "easy to live" cities .. but the south is still authentic!

Eggs in the fridge are also an Italian thing ... all the fridge I ever saw, even the 50+ years old one my grand had, came with their own jig for 6 eggs.
PS Italians are extremely "campanilisti" (which apparently from a web dictionary can translate into either "parochialism" or "campanilist" ) so don't sweat it when other italians have their strong opinion regarding whether or not you're experiencing the "TRUE" Italy. That's just the way we are lol.
PPS Trani, as any other city/town/village, has its own rival city nearby ... just ask your italian friends the next time xD

This is a great channel! I am in process of gaining my dual Italian citizenship as my father was born and raised as a young man in Italy and my mother’s grand parents on both sides immigrated from Italy. Being American while coming from a very strong Italian heritage is a strange place. I feel much more comfortable with Italian culture in great part but grew up in America. You channel has been inspiring and educational. Thank you and Connor for sharing your experiences. I am planning to be in Naples as I along with my business partner Tony Casella establish a number of contacts through work. I am looking into joining the Q-Club…every time I watch an episode…I get hungry:)… Thank you both…Steven Garofalo

Really happy to see your citizenship process is getting through. It's really nice to see someone enjoy the perks a small city may offer, between a sunny walk along the sea and a walk to the best "panificio" for the most tasty Taralli in town, moreover all of these are quite cheap. Keep your nice work ahead and spread your contagious happiness in the city, the contagious virus have made many people less content.

    about Tursi (quirky moment!)
Here in Genoa there is a palace called "Tursi Palace" because a former owner was the aristocratic family Doria. A member of the family was awarded in the XVI centrury by the Spanish Emperor whit noble titles with included the fief of Tursi. This is the reason for the name of the palace.
The family owned Tursi until XVIII century (we have to admit: it seems they weren't some of the best south feud owners ...)
Now "Palazzo Tursi" hosts the city council, Comune offices, a local police station and a museum.

Just found your channel thanks to my recommandation feed.
As a Frenchie with Moroccan origins who always wanted to move to / live in Italy one day this video gave me some home back.
Many young Italians have told me not to move in because it's hard to find a job there but hey, some people are really interested in the Japanese, Korean or Chinese culture, some by the American culture, well I am with the Italian culture, so why not give it a try at least ?
I was supposed to be an exchange student for a year in Milano but due to personal issues and then the pandemic my plans have been cancelled. Now I'm studying another course which doesn't allow exchanges abroad.
I was starting to feel like giving up but thanks to this video I might just not. Thank you for making it :)

"strambo" for quirky is kind of correct, but also I am not 100% sold on it. It does indeed mean quirky, but with a VERY minor negative meaning. It originally means "bendy", referring to legs, or the kind of uncertain walk you'd get if your legs are bendy :P
Strambo to me conjures the image of the weirdo on the subway or at the bar that is innocuous, but out of the blue starts telling random strangers about his life and all of a sudden comes up with "and of course I've been abducted by aliens when i was 12."
Alternatives could be eccentrico/eccentrici (eccentric), stravagante/stravaganti (extravagant; I actually think this might be a good one), bizzarrro/bizzarri (weird, odd)

Found your channel a week ago or so...love your perspective and uploads. We were looking at the kids possibly getting dual citizenship via their mom and maternal grandmother, but I don't think that will work because my wife's grandmother was actually born in Connecticut and moved back to Caltanisetta, Sicily when she was about 3, and then returned to CT after the war (THE war...ie., WWII) and married a fellow Sicilian from Caltanisetta also, but great grandpa, Giuseppe/Joe, gave up his Italian citizenship before accepting US citizenship, so unfortunately, I think our kids are cutoff. But, we will try other paths to Italian citizenship, how do we say there are other ways to skin the cat in Italian? ci altri modi de "skin/cut" il gato????
