You beat everyone to the reviews. They are now starting to get stellar reviews by all the other sound guys. Your review is real, and placed in real world environment. Thanks for the review!
Those dual 8s require a shit tonne of power to work at its optimum. If you dont have proper fire power, its better to get the R600. Overdrive them as much as you want, too much power is never a bad thing. Underdrive them and you would be better off with a bookshelf. The best thing about the R700 is the tonality, EIR is as smooth as some of the best studio monitors out there, except these are floorstanders! They are the most accurate measuring speakers Ive seen under 5k, dare I say more. No boosted bass, no lifted highs, precise mids. With neutral low frequencies, bass is only present when its called for, no honda civic kinda bass found here. Classy. Regarding the cone size, the size that is stated refers to the basket and not the cone itself. To get 7 inches from the center of the rubber surround to the other side is freaking awesome for an '8 inch' woofer. You are lucky you didnt buy no Wharfedale, their 6 1/2 inch woofer looks more like a 4 1/2 half one. Lmao!
Mark thanks for coming by... Yes I used to use a eq on these but for the reasons you stated up above, I took it off... and now it is over my buddy's house who doesn't use it so I need to go over there and get it... As for as the power goes right now I got 700 watts at 4 ohms going to each channel... I will be upgrading in the future to 1200 watts at some point but yes I agree the top end is st8 fire. How many watts are you running?
@@TransformationalGaming just got the Crown XLS 2502 that pushes out 440w @ 8ohms and 775w @ 4ohms with the Topping D90SE acting as a pre. Man, do these buggers sing! What are you running now for amplification?
Yes I'm running about the same when it comes to amps. I'm running the M700s mono block amps from psaudio. I would advise anyone to do the same. You don't have to have psaudio, but I would definitely run monoblock amps. This would enable you to run 700 per channel. Now you don't have to do every channel monoblock like I do. I actually have 7 channels running 700 watts per, but I would at least have your fronts running monoblock. I have a Marantz sr5014 for a preamp.
So I'm kinda where you were but instead of the Polk Monitor 70s I have the Polk Monitor 60s. Was thinking about these r700 or the Polk es60. I currently have an Onkyo RZ50 AV receiver and an Svs Pb1000 pro as my subwoofer. Would you think the Polk Es60 would be to much of a downgrade to these r700s and we're the Monitor 70s that much less than these r700s?
Honestly, it depends on what you like. I like top-end and bass so the monitor 70s will always do. But, it also depends on your amplifier. See, I had a 100watt Sony. It's just not powerful enough to deliver the lows in the bass region but I watch movies and music on my Marantz. But, if you get a integrated amplifier that can go down to 4ohms and you can see it in the spec sheet, then the monitor 70s are great, but you have to have a 4ohm amplifier. Outside of that, if you don't have a very powerful amp then I would go with the R700s. Though this speaker is difficult to drive, this better utilize an 8ohm amplifier. Can't promise you that it will get very loud, but I think you will have more surface area with the 8" cones for your bass and the tweeter is very sweet. But again it depends on your amp. I see that you have an Onkyo RZ50 AV receiver. That may jive with the Monitor 70s, especially with the ability to go down to 4ohms. But, beware with all channels driven, the wattage goes down. So, but looking at your onkyo's specs, the monitor 70s should do for 2 channel or 3 channel. But if you plan on having all channels driven then at least have your fronts rockin' the R700s. Hope you find a good match. Thanks for coming to the channel. Laters.
@@TransformationalGaming thank you so much I definitely want the r700s and most likely will go that route. I will probably just gift myself those for my 40th birthday later this year. Again thank you for the information.
Np the r700s are awesome. Hopefully around the ends of the year they'll lower the price back to 899. The Arendals 1723 towers are awesome too if you are trying to upscale. Good luck.
@@TransformationalGaming started watching this video again and completely missed this reply. Thank you again for the reply. Has come down to the KLH Kendall's and the R700s but leaning toward the r700.

i think they are meant to be opened from the side . My polk L600s are almost identical in size and weight and i noticed that there is a taped seam on the side of the box that can be slit and then flipped , making it quite easy . another thing i did when trying to find the best room position was to place big furniture glides under the feet which allowed me to slide them very easily on carpet or floors .once i found the right position for best sound i just removed the glides .

Honestly I've been looking for a center channel from polk and yes I've been looking at the Polk R400. But if I get it, it will be wood version. It's had to get nailed down especially on their site. I might try Amazon.

Thanks for the honest review. I just ordered these but they are 4-6 weeks out. Planning to use them in a 2.0 system for music only -- mostly classic rock. Do you think they would perform well??
You will get excellent sound, pending on your amplifier. If you got 100 watt amplifier I would pass on these if you are looking to crank it up and listen really loud. Like I've said in other videos and comments, you need to be at least at 300 watts to utilize this speaker. These are about 89 db per watt. And about 3.6-4.0 ohms. So you'll need a good amplifier to push these. But if you like listening at a comfortable level you'll be in a good position at 100watts. So, it depends. Do you like to listen loud?
@@TransformationalGaming My amp (ADCOM 555se) is rated at 200 watts per channel. I plan to put the Polks in a fairly small room so listening "loud" would probably be overkill. It just needs to be loud enough that I can get into the music if that makes sense.
@@TransformationalGaming Just curious, what speakers did the Polks replace for you? Are you happy with the tradeoff? I currently listen on a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 10.7s and I think the Polks will be a nice step up.

Agreed, that's with all of the Marantz. I'm using PS Audio M700. I'm outputting from my Marantz but yeah I wouldn't use any AV Receiver's onboard amp to power speakers. Especially, the multiple woofer speakers like the R700s. The impedance dips are real. So, you need a amplifier that can double wattage output on the fly like a Parasound or a PS Audio amplifier.
