    Do you know how you say ハザードランプ (hazard lamp??) in English?
    When you pull over, but the engine is kept running, you turn on ハザードランプ, which means you turn on both blinkers.
    I think you basically have the same traffic rules as in Japan.

    You and dave should do a video where you do odd English vocab. Like us Americans say tons of different stuff like blinker.
    But it seems you guys say well for very.
    American: Its very funny
    English: it's well funny
    You guys say stuff like dodgy, jumper, indicator, etc. I find it quite interesting. Sorry weird random idea! You guys are awesome!!!

    Several of these aren't really wasei eigo.
    和製英語でないものが混ざっています。
    Winker -> an old fashioned British term for an indicator
    One Piece -> a one-piece dress
    Mansion -> a mansion block
    Circle -> standard English (see "sewing circle")
    etc...

    It's the abbreviation for 空気読めない (kuuki yomenai). The direct translation is "can't read the atmosphere"... which doesn't make much sense in English, but it's used for people who make things awkward by saying or doing something they shouldn't say/do in certain situations. I guess the best way to describe it is "someone who has no common sense".

    Winker is actually German, the English word is "trafficators", it came from a time where some cars had mechanical moving "indicators" and they where called "Winker" in German really roughly translated meaning a guy who waves his hand.

    In German, a "Winker" is someone waving his arm, while a "Blinker" is the indicator of a car :) There are many German words in the Japanase language as well, like Gästehaus, Märchen, Doppelgänger and many more (well, I heard them in Animes at least)

    • @nippononna
      @nippononna 7 років тому

      In Japanese, "part time job" is called "Arubaito" or "Baito"... Many Japanese think it's one of Japanese-English words, but it's actually Japanese-German (from "Arbeit")...

    Hi :) You guys're so cute!!
    I'm jealous you guys because when I found Japanese-English, I always have negative feeling. But you introduce these words very enjoyably. It's fantastic!!

    I just realised that I, as a German dude who speaks a bit of Japanese and English, sometimes seem to mix up meanings of 和製英語 and "real" English. I am a little embarassed, but at the same time I think it's kind of cool.
