You really are trying to water Chicago's influence down. Drill is the result of street dudes from Chicago really rapping and having a platform to create a music scene in the city instead of rappers from Chicago making it out of here like Kanye, Common, Twista, Chance and Lupe that mostly copied NY's swag. That platform showed Chicago to the world from the inside for the first time in history and it switched the game up period. Chicago's lingo like "Smokin' on _____".... "Opps," "Clout," "Lackin'," "Thots," "Goofies," yelling "Gang" "Squad" etc. etc. are industry wide vocab now. They popularized low budget videos and songs without hooks, heavy dissin and rapping about real life crimes. Also Drill was the movement that created rappers killing/dying over social media beef tied to the streets and the music they were making. Chicago is built different and these dudes was straight up putting street business in the open and flaunting it. In the very beginning of NY Drill Bobby Shmurda's Hot Nigga video was directly influenced by Chief Keef's "I don't Like" video. Bobby Shmurda's manager or whoever stated this in an interview that they copied that style. The UK guys took the exact same approach to their videos and just added some masks. They been on Drill for a long time in the UK, even if the beats or tempos have evolved it's obvious they are emulating Chicago in the beginning and to this day. RondoNUmba9 who you never mention was a big influence on Bobby Shmurda and 69. If you aren't familiar check him out and see his wild and turnt up gangbang style they copied from him. You're actin like NY only ever heard of a handful of rappers from Chicago. They were in tune with people like Young Pappy, Lil Jay, FBG Duck, L.A. Capone and the whole BDK/GDK movements. It's a vast topic but listen to the flows my guy, NY dudes are flowing like Chicago rappers and all these compilation videos all over UA-cam will show you how influenced Brooklyn is by Chicago.
NY wasn't on gangs rappin and goin back n forth over tracks and social media with real life crime being talked about, catchin opps lackin' and videos with gang members throwing up gang signs and pointing guns and trigger fingers at the camera. Doesn't matter what the beat sounds like or what dance they might be doing while they're copying Chicago Drill with 95% of the culture. DJ Akademiks made his whole damn career off of exploiting Chicago Drill.
The only similarity is the name calling it Drill. Brooklyn drill is different they should use a new name. Stop calling it drill and giving Chicago credit. @Earport
