you really should learn the Siberian fire lay. When you have a saw, good sized logs and you're going to be in one place more than 1 day, the Siberian saves you a LOT of work, can't be extinguished by rain and will burn green, wet wood, and projects all of its heat in one direction, twice as far as is the case with a normal fire. This means that the fire can be out in the rain, a safe distance from your tarp or debris shelter, but you can be warmed/dried by that heat. Just for insurance, dampen the debris-edge nearest the flames. and keep it damp. Learn to heat-up 4 head sized rocks on both sides for half an hour with 2 Siberians. and put them in row of pits under your raised pole bed or your hammock. Surround each stone with a 2" thick layer of wood ashes and they will warm you for many hours.. smother the flames with dirt or ashes and bury some coals and charcoal in the ashes. Then the fire will be easy to re-ignite when you want to warm up the stones again IF all is wet, you can use an Alternative Swedish fire torch (or two) to ignite the ends of your Siberian. Both fire lays have videos on YT
