  • This video is for all the producers/engineers who work day and night to give their clients the best experience but still don't sometimes get valued, and instead get disrespected and looked down upon.
    Always remember these 2 things:
    (1) YOU SHOULD KNOW YOUR WORTH
    (2) IF SOMEBODY PAYS FOR YOUR SERVICE, THEY DON'T OWN YOU
    Happy learning 🙏🏻

The amount of patience you have shown here is genuinely shocking.
I don't think I would last more than the first message, immediately refunding the amount and letting them know I wont be working with them.
You continued working with them, even though they humiliated you and made such derogatory remarks, limiting you creatively all the while micro-managing you like crazy.
People having unrealistic expectations from mixes is a real issue in the industry.
Hats off man, massive respect for keeping your cool in this situation. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

I too faced similar circumstances but not in the music world. People try to show dominance over you and the only way to set ourselves free from that trap is by not surrendering to them, which you very executed, like a true professional. I think people with fewer experience behave like this with the people they pay to do some work. Thinking that you own the person until he finishes your work is like taking a trip back to times when slavery was practiced.
You did what was the best which shows your maturity. Good Luck !

Sir, literally thank you soo soooo much, even you don't know how big questions you've answered in this video. I always used to thing whenever working with client that may be only i have to send remixes to client again and again till they get satisfied. I thought that professional engineers finalize their project in one go. But now i get to know that it's the way how any business relations work between service provider and client. Thanks a lot 🙏
Even my clients used to go personal when they don't like anything. But the way i handle it is that, I only say one thing to myself and all that personal attacks become null and void for me and that thing is forgiveness, i say to myself that "it's okie, we are working for the sake of good music, they have their own way of thinking and i have my own, but our target is good sound which could bless someone's ears, they have their own values as a human being and i have my own" and in this way i cool myself down and never attack their personal aspects.

All this can be avoided if you have a document that clearly states the delivery and deadlines listed in detail, before you sign on the project. It's called "conditions of engagement" and lists out every aspect of the project. Even things like copyright, IP, delivery timelines, if possible examples of similar final results, etc. I'm sure you can find templates online and modify it to suit your workflow. People can go back on their word, but it's difficult refuting a signed and accepted document.

This video explains many things in itself!💯 fir chahe wo isi field (music prod.) m ho ya koi or field ho. It's a fact that everyone has to deal with such kind of person/client in present or in future who knows🤷🏻‍♂️. It's a clear example of seedhi baat & no bakwaas. Reference lene m koi burai nahi h, but we should also understand ki har ek artist (including music producer, mixing & mastering engineer) ka apna signature & quality hota h work ka & hum usko kisi bhi tarah control ya force nhi kar skte. Self-worth, self-respect, tolerance etc; all play a key role in leveling up as what we do & who we are. Always do your best, take no bullshit & keep rocking✨ Thank you so much sir for sharing this experience🙏🏼 Raaiight🔥

This is the dark side of some clients, people think that this music thing is really amazing and we just make good music and they'll be like tumhari toh mauj hai, but in reality apart from focusing on our work, growing ourselves in this field, this is some of the baddest things that could ever happen with any of us, Agar koi humey kuch bhi bole hum vo tolerate kar sakte hai but at the end if anyone tries to call anything bad about our music about our work then it's gonna harm us alot, we all know how much kind and calm you're sir! You could never be rude to anyone without any reason, Hope you're doing well now sir! 🙌🏻 We can understand your situation as well as your feelings.

I feel there is a fine line between mixing and production. People should understand Mixing is done for enhancing and blending the sonic of different layered tracks and effects of the music produced by you. IT CAN NOT CHANGE THE ARRANGEMENT, THE CHOICE OF INSTRUMENTS or the COMPOSITION. Production is the base of your track, try to make your produced track as close to what you are expecting out of your mix (maybe use multiple instruments for doubling or layering), because it gives the Mix engg. a clear perspective of what you want, and obviously we can remove the extra/redundant elements from the produced stems.. in the final mix..
This is just my personal opinion on problems like this, when the artist can't really translate what he/she wants from the MIX.

It shows how artist/composers rely on mixing more than their base production work, the product will be good only if it has a proper base structure, bollywood sounding needs lot of work and patience, and going through the conversation any professional artist wont ask to make the sound like so and so artist, we r in the field to make everyone sound unique not to copy someone.. your work inspire producers and engineers like us so dnt think much about it
    God bless you brother..

Mr. Know It Alls will keep showing up and this is where one should know jahan khud knowledge na ho seekha na ho to trust the professional and his work who has dedicated his all time towards mastering a particular area and jisne apne area me bhi ye mehnat ki hoti hai use doosre ki mehnat ki kadar khud ho jati hai seekhana nahi padta.... I have been involved in limited projects but one thing we artists love to earn more than money is client's trust and our credibility in their eyes, even though we ourselves are in learning stage, and their satsifaction when we deliver a quality product surpassing their expectations.

Even after sending it for Spotify release, i found some improvements and did the same. If you are a true musician you should understand it.
I feel you handled the things well.
I have learnt a lot from you and other teachers like dev, ragasur . If he wants song how Bollywood makes then..... He should listen to Ritviz, Bcs, ragasur their songs are way better then Bollywood songs. 👍

Did anyone noticed that how Vasudev Sir handled the situation in the right way. Not only I got the knowledge of how to deal with such type of clients but also the most important thing I got to learn from the video was to learn give 100% in your work till the time you feel that the work is worth of the charges you are taking.
I also tolerated a client from Cocomelon TV and was pressurised to leave everything and do his work. And it was not possible for me to do this in my SCHOOL LIFE.
By the way!!!! I got an idea of what charges should we keep as a begginer for mixing and mastering.

I can relate this bohot ache se since i am into Dance Choreography and music both.
But one thing i really want to share to you vasudev and to all other fellow mates that we have to keep things tight from the very beginning of a project.
Budget, time duration, number of tweaks, requirements.
Now in these Number of tweaks matters the most important aspect as you cannot just keep on changing or making slight changes as per the individuals choice because it ofcourse takes a lot of time and many a time it may lead to some unsatisfactory output.
Yes the client may have good taste of music but ear training and way of understanding the music arrangement will never be same.
Also we as "ARTIST" dont just work Primarily for MONEY but this rule literally cannot be applied to industry as majority of work has just become Busines only.
So just want to tell you that ofcourse put your complete heart for projects but dont give liberty or the power to the client to make you work for them ONLY.
    #peaceout

    Hi Vasudev,
This video feels like a schoolboy rant. 20:00 onwards was the "moral of the story". Rest of it felt as if you were trying to justify your actions (perhaps to yourself?).
In my opinion, the communication between a client and yourself should be confidential stuff.

Always keep your cool.Audio and aesthetics are very subjective.Audio mixing is so vast.Don't feel demotivated or self deameing.🙏

I have been a student of sir and I can say this for sure that he is a very sincere person. He is always evolving, always moving ahead and has inspired me to believe in myself.
I know you won't let this affect you any more than it should sir, but let me say this- you did great and it was his shortcoming as an immature person!

There will be clients and customers who deliberately want to rob your money. It is their nature. It's everywhere they go do the same thing . Some people just get in habit of duping people. That's why clear terms and conditions and also with buffer conditions are important to be clarified beforehand. It is common with these type of clients be it any field. It is better to lose business than the headache.

2 years ago I worked with a new artist(he dropped his 1st song 1 month ago, I took a very basic fee of 1000rs. He knew nothing about music let alone mixing but he did the same thing. Took around 35 revisions of the same track, he actually wanted me to fix his bad vocal delivery. I don't say that I was perfect or very good at mixing but that guy really thought that he owned me just because he gave 1000rs and kind of abused me. From that day I asked my clients to listen to my work before giving advance money and I capped my revisions to 5.
