I just finished my pump on my truck (02 regular cab longbed). You don't need the body lift to do the job. Removing the rear wheel helps and lifting the rear for more work room also helps. The game changer is having a motorcycle jack. I was able to move the tank up, down to get access to all the components to disconnect pretty easily then just roll the tank out from under. Not sayin the job is fun or easy but could have been much worse. Hope this helps ya all.
Just did this project today. I was able to get to all the fuel and vent hose connections without lowering the tank. My issue was getting the fuel out of the tank. And I ended up having to disconnect and lower the tank with it full of gas. But the fuel pump replacement was relatively easy. And I did it by myself.
@@cbkb983 I had to replace the fuel pump on my 2002 f-150 I had to use a floor jack to bring the tank down to even disconnect the stuff on top and replace the dry rotted rubber hoses. Took my brother and I did it in a day if I remember right while laying on stones doing it.
Did you mention you removed the bed nuts and jacked/lifted it up with 3 or 4 inch spacers or did I miss that? I looked at mine and wondered why I did not have all that room to work.....
I have a super crew cab with a 5.5’ bed I was thinking about cutting a hole In the bed. Would I be able to access the fuel pump or would the bed braces be in the way?
I did a fuel pump replacement on my Ford Ranger by TILTING THE BED to one side. It's far easier and faster than dropping the tank. And I did it by myself in a few hours. I could have done it faster, but I was in unknown waters so I took my time. If my F150 needs this done, I'll do it the same way. Tilt the bed, or remove it. If you have some sort of overhead gantry, or large tree limb and a hoist - then it would be even easier. All you have to do is tilt it up enough gain access to the pump. You can also get to the tank-to-frame connections easier too. For the life of me, I don't understand why the factory doesn't put in an inspection plate to get to that pump. How much could it possibly cost them? A few bolts. Big deal. Thanks for the video! It was interesting to watch how you did this job "by the book".
I do not know if this help anybody but I rusted a tank strap on my Ford F250 l.d. , I went and bought another strap which called it to be 31.5 " , when I went to installed it , it was too short, thankfully the parts man kept on looking for an alternative which was 34.75" and it fit.I have the part number it is Dorman 578-132 , it fits a F250 4x4 . I forgot it is a 30.5 gallon tank.
I replaced my 2004 Expedition but I notice the tank is showing empty after driving 300 miles but then it will only takes 20 gallons and it is full,it is supposed to be 28 gallons tank capacity,so I guess the float sending unit is not accurate. How much do you charge for a job like that.?
This video couldnt have been timed better. I have a 1996 f250 for about 2 years and the front tank isnt working. I replaced the fuel selector switch and I can hear the fuel pump come on when the ignition is on. Still wont work. Willy you help me?
I have a 97 7.3L that is doing the same thing. Your selector switch is probably not the problem, it's either your fuel sending unit or the fuel selector valve. You can short some terminals on the fuel selector valve to determine what the actual problem is.
Why didn't you just pull the bed and work on the tank from the top? 6 bolts is all it takes and you can slide it back a ft or two and access the whole job from the top.
You cheaters! That truck has a body lift! Haha wish mine did... I see why you used this particular vehicle for the video! I'm getting ready to drop mine now...let the chaos begin...
How did you gain access to unplug everything? It looks like you jacked the bed up and inserted 3" square metal tubing. This was not shown in the video.
I had to replace the tank on the I am working on. The tank is the same as the old except it has a plastic black tray in the tank causing my pump to be 2 inches to tall. The tank takes the same pump according to Ford. My question is what can I do now to get it back together.
The body lift made this particular tank removal a bit different. Not the same as a stock tank removal. Not at the standard of your usual 1A Auto Video.
Why doés it look like you jacked up the bed, because I didn't have that much room! Ps some of your showing of disconnecting fuel lines were useless, only saw your light!

I like how he fast forwarded through the ungodly struggle with the quick disconnects on the fuel line...

Motorcycle Jack - BIG TIP ~ I just happen to have one. Thanks!!

How long did it take you and what year? Mine is a 04 F150 and have about 3/8 of a tank.

@@TorryGood haha, sounds like what my brothers roped me into. Mechanics don’t get vacations
@@TorryGood good job man
Straight to the point and very very informative. Thank You for Who You are and What You Do
That body lift sure makes it easy.
They are cheating lol
I'm glad mine has a body lift. Its easier but it's not a picnic. I think I'm going to cut a hole in the bed of my truck
Who was the all time idiot that put the fuel pump in the tank????? Simple exterior electric pump would work great, just sayin'
Did you mention you removed the bed nuts and jacked/lifted it up with 3 or 4 inch spacers or did I miss that? I looked at mine and wondered why I did not have all that room to work.....
sut2910 that’s a body lift
This truck clearly has a body lift on it... The only time I wish I had a body lift. LOL

You made that look so easy, I think I’m gone try it myself.
Yeah, but how do you disconnect all that stuff if you don't have a body lift on your truck?
I suddenly wish I had a body lift. lol
Lower the tank until you can reach and get to everything
@@justinmiller9761 not a good idea on these trucks. Ford's connection for the fuel lines are plastic, and tend to break off when you drop the tank.
It's a helluva lot easier to just take the bed off the frame (6 bolts inside the bed) and work from the top of the fuel tank.
@@makermark67 not in the rust belts
Will these tips work on a 06 f150?
How did you get that brick wedge in the space to add more room

Is this for a v6 or v8? Or is the job the same for either?
Must be nice working on a truck that is not all rusty n dirty.
Well, let’s see how this goes. Much easier than pulling the bed, it seems
What do you do if you can't get the quick connect lines removed ? I have a 99 Grand Marquis and I cannot get the 3/8th disconnected.
This video couldnt have been timed better. I have a 1996 f250 for about 2 years and the front tank isnt working. I replaced the fuel selector switch and I can hear the fuel pump come on when the ignition is on. Still wont work. Willy you help me?

i did everything and the truck still shuts off randomly would this still be the problem? maybe i did it wrong?
Replaced the fuel pump itself still no start what should I go after next
That seemed pretty simple, hope it's that simple for the guys at the shop.
Hahahahh...I love it.....I might need to replace mine ...dont want to do it... so I get it.
How u get the wood under there

How about removing the left rear tire..???
It looked like you had the bed unbolted and propped up, separated from the frame.
What should fuel pressure be on a 1999 ford f-150 with a 5.4 ? key on only then also running.
35-45psi key on engine off, 28-45psi at idle
How did you gain access to unplug everything? It looks like you jacked the bed up and inserted 3" square metal tubing. This was not shown in the video.
+XXXX Thanks for watching! All of the disconnecting at the beginning of the video was done just as it is on the truck. 1aauto.com
@@1AAuto actually, I think there is square tube stock inserted in between the bed supports and the bed. But thanks for the great video anyway.
I changed my fuel pump and can't get my truck to stsrt, any suggestions to what I might need to do to get it running?
Check firing it's a point gone bad

Unless it's a SuperCrew, it's much easier to just remove the bed bolts and scoot the bed back.
Nice work
Fantastic video and this guy is super easy to understand thumbs up
How to you get to the top of the fuel tank?!

At 2:20 is it possible to get any more useless footage? Perhaps more focus on the light, or maybe just turn the camera off altogether? 🤔
