Would you guys take 7 + trains to save money and travel somewhere? 😂
Ps - we actually took 2 extra trains not included in the video from the house to Tokyo station & from Kyoto station to our hotel too hahaha
Nope. But it's fun to watch a 20min summary. 😉
I love trainrides. But considering the time I will have in Japan, I prefer the shinkansen for the time saved :)
Awesome video though!
hell no
Absolutely! Hopefully there are beverages and bathrooms available though lol
If you have the time I think it would be a great experience to view how the country changes as you travel.
Spending 8 hours on a train with you was so easy and fun! Next let's do a 1 week train ride to really test our sanity and friendship! ♥
Thanks for coming along with me! 1 week ooft.. so long as there are toilets on the train I could do it! haha
@@seerasan You could change the game by staying one night at every Transfer location. That'd keep the train journey fun and be a great way to show some unique untouristed areas. Also continuing down to Kagoshima from Kyoto seems like a fun next step.
Haha, it was cute when you placed the ticket in your hat
My wife discovered this special ticket on our honeymoon trip back then. It was crazy keeping track of train rides constantly and the absurdly long time to reach Kyoto but we saved ALOT. I wouldn't do this anymore now with kids to consider but for the young adults watching this, don't miss out. It's an absolute steal.
But there is willer bus for example. Got from tokyo to kyoto over night and paid like 30€ or less. Also i safed a night stay. Hop on the bus and wake up at destination...
@@Buggiy are they comfortable to sleep? I'm considering it but usually I have a bad time trying to sleep in an airplane for example
@@ivanalexeev6505no for the 30€ category. But there are pricier ones that are more like a bed. But price was the main aegument
I literally just got back from a 10 day trip in Japan. My son, who lives Sasebo, Japan, and I traveled from Tokyo to Kyoto to Osaka back Tokyo, by train to but we took the bullet train. I also purchased a Suica Card Pass, and it was so easy to ride all the JR lines and green cars. I loved Japan and hated the 16-hour multiple flights it took for us to reach our destination, Tokyo, Japan, arrived at Haneda Airport. I learned so much about Japan. Like for example, you have to finish all of your food or it's frown upon, you stand on the left side of escalators so people who are in a rush can use the clear right side to go pass you, no stopping in the middle of any walkways or sidewalks, must keep walking traffic flow going, also no walking on red lights, or be ready to get hit by passing vehicles. You must wait for green pedestrian light to glow before walking/running across the street or suffering the consequences. Yikes! Be courteous to elderly and children on trains/escalators, no talking on cellphones on trains, no being loud on trains. Also, you do tons of walking and going up and down multiple staircases. I was there for 10 days only, and I walked overall 30 miles and climbed 1k stairs. Did a lot of shopping, temples, museum- Ninja & Sumari, etc.. Visited the Imperial Palace - but was bummed cause it was closed, so we only got to walk thru the Imperial Garden Palace, beautiful. Had tons of fun, to say the least! Congratulations on living there! 🎉🎉 I'm jelly😂
When I was a student, it was standard to travel using the “Seishun 18 Ticket” during summer vacation. There was a night train that left Tokyo at 12:00 midnight, although it has been abolished now. After two transfers, I arrived in Osaka in the morning. I think it's a good means of transportation to experience the regional characteristics of Japanese people. But be careful of the heat.
What a great, magical whimsey tour.
Looks like a great idea to see a different side of Japan ... and many Trains and Stations too.
Such a beautiful video! Thanks for taking this journey so that we could too! Awesome work as always!
There are many foreigners who introduce Japan Rail Pass, but there are few foreigners who introduce Seishun eighteen Ticket. 🧐
It was a video where you could learn the advantages and disadvantages of the Seishun eighteen Ticket. 🤔
I think it was a very good attempt. 👍
you japanese? your english sounds very japanese. eigo jouzu!
This was so cute!! Thanks for sharing your journey with us!
You and Lyssa are so wholesome together, uugh! ❤
Ok, honestly, i would do this exactly because i too enjoy train rides and being able to look out the window, admiring different landscape! But, as you mentioned, only when i would have enough free time.. and good company!
LOVE train travel!!! I call these types of trips "Train Journeys" ofc definitely getting off at some stops quickly here and there like you did makes something like this fun@ and worthwhile!
I have often said the best way to see a place when traveling is on the ground. When I got out of the Army (too many years ago now), I took 2 bus rides...one from northern California to Arizona (stayed there 3 days), then from Arizona to Tennessee. 53 total hours on a bus (17 for the first leg, 36 for the second leg), about 2500 miles. Travel by local trains, even making multiple transfers, would be perfect for me.
While it isn't easy to do this for sure, it is definitely more rewarding as you'll be able to see different things and meet different people. I was on a local train to visit a hiking route in the outskirts of Tokyo and a very friendly Japanese lady spoke to me in her limited english, and asked me where I was from. Long story short, she had apparently lived a few years in my little town in Malaysia before! The world is small and i'm so glad i got to meet her simply because i was on a local train.
Whoah! This is a great deal. You're the first person I've come across to showcase this ticket deal. I'd be all over this on a visit to Japan. And no worries Alyssa! "Whimsy" gets me every time. Haha!
If someone told me to wake up, that we are going on a train ride with Seerasan. I'd get up so fast. Any and every time love. =) Love these types of videos.
I spent 3 days on one train here in Canada, so youd chatch me doing this 😂. I would love to watch the countryside roll by. Nice cloud watching, I love that marshmallow cloud! ☁️
That was an awesome video and how cool was it seeing Alyssa join you on your journey as well. I've never taken this train and I live in Japan, but now I'm considering it. お疲れ様でした!
Fantastic video with you and Alyssa!
It's a great option, you can also stop by overnight in towns along the way
Thank you for your long adventure! I'm glad that you enjoyed the scenery that you can't see on the Shinkansen ☺️
😊You and Alyssa made my day. Have fun. Stay Safe. 😊
I love trains so yes I would do this! this was delightful to watch!
Sarah was crashing today, and @llysa had to step in with the backup energy.
Now go from Kyoto to Hakodate! :D lol
Thanks for taking us along!

Thank you so much Sarah! Did not know this ticket exists! Would take this trip next time I'm in Japan.
Your content is always bright and fun. And your eyes are out of this world. :)
Loved your video. It was so much fun to watch. What a wonderful idea. I am moving to Japan within the next 6-8 months with my family. I am a Japanese American from Hawaii. And my grandfather left Japan over 100 years ago. And now 100 years later I am moving back with my wife and daughter. Such a strange turn of events.
Interesting, I am also from Hawaii with a Japan-born Mother. In the process of appyling for long term visa (path to PR) to move to Japan. Gambatte ne!
Best of luck to you. We have really been enjoying our new life in Japan so far. But it was incredibly stressful at first trying to find and furnish a new place and adjusting to life here. But the food has been amazing. And rent is very very cheap in our little town. @@debbie1247
My wife and I need to go from Kyoto to Mt Fuji so this is a wonderful and scenic alternative ❤😊 in the next 3 days
Maybe we'll this instead of the shinkansen this time
Greetings from korea 🇰🇷 😊❤
Great video, really enjoyed the content 👍
Possibly my favourite video you have done because I absolutely love seeing the countryside in Japan. Arigatōgozaimasu.
Incredible trip. I don't think most people would be tired enough to enjoy it. The video is so picturesque because of the two beautiful women.
I don't know why but moving those train seats to separate/group people blew my mind, I wish they have these in my country
They're so awesome! Fun fact - they're on the shinkansen too! (They weren't allowed during the pandemic, but I saw some people using it a few weeks back!!)
Nice. Chilled out ride. I sometimes need to go rural france and the local train is much more relaxing than the Eurostar & Paris
I enjoyed this video so much ❤️
Just saw your video with Emma on overhyped things in Japan and I love watching this AFTER it to see some "real" (ekiben-less) traveling.
I hope you make more of these!!! Great job!
Love the vibes!
Very nice journey of two amazing young ladies.
Just looked up the orange trains: JR consists of 7 independent regional companies and JR central (witch trains you were riding) uses the color orange to distinguish itself.
Thanks for looking it up! Good to know!
love your eyes; shux just left japan and miss it already.
many hugs
Love your vids and I find your accent appealing & easy to listen to.
Great video. Seen another of this trip, yours was a better one. If I had time I would be doing a trip like this. I will be doing a fair bit of train travel in Japan next month. Kanazawa to Hiroshima is one leg of the trip.
Toilets on trains are big deal... I had a tight connection for a train at Sydney Central, needed a comfort stop but didnt have time. The train headed for Wollongong's toilet was out of order. Had to do a comfort stop at Sutherland station and wait for the next train south... The struggle is real!
Riding a local train from Tokyo to Osaka is definitely a much more eventful journey than the Shinkansen. You get to see it all!
Love that you did this.
Excellent. Another episode of "Adventures with Sara and Alyssa" 🙂
My fav series! 😆
Amazing Train Trip!! 👌👌👌😍 Thank you very much for sharing!! Greetings from Barcelona 👍❤☺🇪🇸
Thank you for this. Very interesting option. 8 hours is not so bad if you do not have the JP-pass as a tourist. Very cool vid that no-one have done before!
This trip looks fun, a bit rushed but fun. Im planning to visit japan next year so might try this, since it looks fun and i love to look at the scenery of the country
Nice to see different travelling options!
Wow, I was so surprised you know about Seisyun18ticket (青春18きっぷ). I thought it’s only known by Japanese domestic traveler or railway fan!
It’s slow and sometimes hard trip compared with Shinkansen trip. 😂
You may know, JR is looks like same but it’s separated to 7 company( Tokyo is east, Tokai or Nagoya is central and Kyoto or Osaka is west etc).
The quality of their seat or service is different that you mentioned in Atami station.
Enjoy summer season in Japan!
I thought anyone looking to travel Japan cheaply would know about Seishun18. I wanted to do this during my first visit to Japan but I didn't have much time
I love this journey!!! Such a great deal!!! More trains please! 🥰
青春18きっぷのご紹介ありがとう。そして京都までの長旅お疲れsummer.✨
I'm always alert and watching out the window on the trains anyway!
This reminds me of the trip I took from Yamaguchi to Tokyo 50 years ago. (Couldn't afford the Shinkansen).Scenic, but even then you got the same "full/empty" dynamic.
I’m heading to Japan in 2025 and I’m absolutely loving your tips. Hi from New Zealand
Your train videos are so cozy
The trip looks amazing! As much as I like to drive to my destinations in the US just to see the scenery, I would much rather take trains like that just to take in the nature, the beauty, and the architecture that you can see from the tracks.
It’s really enjoyable! Highly recommend it :)
Driving sucks, because you can't even drink on a freaking vacation!
I love that you listened to Mitsuha's theme when going through gifu! Not sure I could do that in public, I might cry!
Gives me all the feels 😭 One of my favourites from the album..
@@seerasan I'm visiting Japan for the first time next month and have booked a night in a Ryokan on lake Suwa, you bet that whole album is getting played and I'm making a mess of the tatami 😢
Wow that spot is on my bucket list!! Have the best time 🥹
I’d love to try this for the views alone… but man, 12hrs 😬 Thanks for enduring that to bring us this awesome video!
Great video and adventure. Slightly gutted the spring ticket stops at 10th April as its when i'm arriving :(
great video!
I love long train journeys! I'll definitely try this
I don't know if I would have the stamina. 11 hours with seven transfers sounds like too much. But you guys totally dekita!
Did this on local trains from Shizouka to Kobe while strung out on MDMA and acid after a 3 day trance party on Mt Fuji. The amount of times we couldn;t work out north or south or which train to catch was horrendous.Sometrains were full and had to ly on my bags.Made Kobe after 8 hours.
as someone living in USA who never been on a train my life, this fascinates me. I bet Japanese people wonder why weird foreigners like trains so much considering it's part of their daily life and normal but yea.. we don't have easy to use trains in other parts of the world.
Trains are normal for me as a European... blows my mind that somebody has never been on a train lol
Nah everybody likes trains i think its some human nature thing
@@montgomeryfortenberry Lol I don't, I hate trains but sometimes it's just the most practical option to get somewhere within Europe.
@@anna8282 i cant believe it
The commitment. thanks for sharing.
Hey Sarah. Nice vid. Sometimes slower is better :)
Doing trips like this with friends sounds like a lot of fun! 🎉 I had the chance to experience the Trans-Siberian Railway many years ago, and having good friends by my side made it anything but boring. I'm already looking forward to gathering some friends and enjoying this trip sometime! 🚂😄
I'd love to give more railway journeys a go in the future! That trip you took must've had some beautiful sights too :)
Agreed, friends make the journey so much more memorable!
So Japan!
I love your economical sense of adventure and fun :)
I love Shizuoka, especially the tea fields in and around Mishima.
We were in Japan two weeks ago from Tokyo to hakone to Atami to Kyoto and then Osaka. From atami to Kyoto we rode the Shinkansen. The 2 hour train ride was very relaxing and we ordered lunch from the very friendly lunch cart lady.
I loved it! This is something I would do! It would be a lot of fun! I would like to see more of these videos. though I would like to see a bit more detail in maybe a location of the shops that you've been to, even if its in the description but not in the actual video and since you speak Japanese and English, I'd be interested in your opinion on how easy it would be for a foreigner who spoke no Japanese to use Japanese services or order at Japanese restaurants along your travels. Please make more! I love this!
Hey, was watching this video and saw your questions so thought i'd give it a shot at answering. I don't live in Japan but I have visited there a couple of times so I can share some info. It won't be a problem for you to travel Japan without any Japanese, especially in major cities like Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka because the staff at hotels/restaurants, shopkeepers etc are used to having foreigners every day. I've even met Japanese shopkeepers who spoke Mandarin simply because Japan is one of the top destinations for visitors from China and Taiwan.
Ordering food in restaurants is also very easy because they would either have english menus, english letters or pictures that you could point to and just say "one please" . The Japanese people spent 5 years of their school life learning English and while not many end up speaking like a native, they'd at least be able to understand very basic English.
Please do not be afraid of travelling to Japan because you don't speak Japanese, it is totally fine and you can still do or see whatever you want to in the country. One of the main reasons I started my travel channel on Japan is to help people see that Japan isn't such a scary place to travel to after all! Let me know if you have any further questions. - Aaron
Thanks for the good info and video 🙂 wow you guys ate on the train in Japan.. but I guess that's acceptable when done on a mostly empty train?
Awesome :D sadly I can`t use it on my journey, only during the last 15 days when the Winter Period starts.
I can't even imagine doing this in the UK trains would be late, cancelled or on strike. Great video
Numazu! The small town made famous in the 'Love Live! Sunshine' anime...
With all the price rises in October and some passes even going away altogether, how easy do you think foreigners will find getting to see Japan in general?
猛者がいた!
静岡がマジで長いんよ、コレww
普通電車の旅、お疲れ様でした〜🎉
I'm glad you're having fun.
Having done this multiple times to save money. I can confidently say, this is pretty damn fun!
I like the Inaka more than the cities, so I would love this. I also spent a couple days in Gifu and liked it. Many of what Japanese think of as so small are large centres to me. This was a great video and showed me something more relaxed than my usual get there driven Japan travel.
Lyssa looks so much like Micaela! You two are so great 🥰
Hey Seera! I felt llike a winner when I discovered this ticket. It's SO cheap. My husband and I travelled from where we live, near Himeiji, all the way to Tokyo. Did it in winter and had to pack very conciously. Definately a looooooong trip
I love the toilet hunt 😂 deffo an easily neglected but top travel necessity for these adventures 😆
missing my Seera positive energy but i got it back with the video -----------🔥燃えくたぜ!!!🔥
spending 8 hours on train with you yes i could ! by the way i will try it next time if i can do it .
Great video Sarah... Wasnt aware of this. Would be good way to split up over a couple days then Shinkansen back... In bigger city stops could you of waited an hour or so to get another later train so less rushed?
I find the rush hour here isn’t really an “hour” it lasts from 5/6pm until last train… in my experience living in Tokyo anyway 😭 the quietest time to take trains is the middle of the day so 11am-4pm
I’m from Russia and love the fact that in Japan trains are also very enjoyable. Happy to share “love of trains” culture with you😄
Best episode
We did almost the same trip a few years ago from Tokyo to Osaka. It took maybe nine hours in either direction, but it was a lot of fun. Also memorable was the face of the ticket office clerk when she asked where we were going and we told her. Her voice rose a few octaves when she cried out "Osaka!?" in surprise :D
I'm planning a trip to Japan. I got hang of JR. I'm thinking of chopping up Tokyo to Kyoto. Staying in small town hotels and seeing non busy areas in the way there. And then taking Tokaido back to Tokyo Haneda. That way I kinda spread my money to rural areas.
Your point of view is excellent. I thought only Japanese people knew the joys of the Seishun 18 Ticket. Please enjoy your extraordinary trip.
Yes! It's fun to take 8 hours local train trip. I used to take 13 hours local train trip when I was young.😁 Thank you for sharing fun of your trip!
It was surprising to learn that local trains are more similar to metros/subways than tradiitonal local trains in other parts of the world
Beautiful eye as always.
This kind of regular train trip will give travelers a taste of the real Japan that cannot be experienced on a bullet train.
If you have time, I recommend that you get off the train in one of the towns along the way and spend a couple of days exploring.
If you are lost in the middle of the night, don't worry, translation software will help you find your way around.
使いきれなかったチケットは金券ショップで売ることができます。A little tip for budget friendly trip
I would love to take this trip. Could you please post the G. Maps directions in the description? How further can you go; could you travel to Kagoshima via commuter trains? The only thing I'd do differently is stay one night at every Transfer location. That'd keep the train journey fun and be a great way to visit unique untouristed areas.
I used it well from Tokyo to Osaka. Good trip, isn't it.
Welcome to Japan🙏
I also travelled from Tokyo to Kyoto with Seishin 18 ticket in 2020. I remember Shizuoka, which is Atami to Toyohashi, was a long tiring journey.
If you brought your yellow Bucket Hat, this could become The Bucket Hat Girls on The Slow-Trains tour ... it doesn't quite roll off the tongue.
Next destination for the Slow-Train tour = Kanazawa?
I'm glad you mentioned the green tea fields in Shizuoka.👍
It's been one of my favorite views along Tokaido Line since my childhood.
Next time, you may want to try an ekiben offered by Tokai-ken in Sizuoka Station or Tsubo-ya in Toyohashi Station.
That's a Showa-style "makunouchi bento", which is near extinction.😢
Thanks for the post....I reckon that would be the best way to "meander' to other parts of Japan if you have the time. Travel to a spot, stay the night, explore the town, etc. Then back on the train for the next leg.....I like it.
