I have to say, I enjoy listening to Cooper play more than anyone else on youtube. He's the only person who can actually make me stop what I'm doing and listen. I wish he did just a handful of videos to share all his favorite techniques, picking patterns, tricks and exercises for developing faster & cleaner play. Of course, Cooper has one thing you can't teach - raw talent.
Finally tested one on a Blues Jr, Blackstar HT40, Orange Pro, and Vox AC10. Really surprised me. Build quality was superb, and had a very smooth sound. This is the Tele that would sit in the band or recording mix perfectly.
Gold foil Tele is awesome - just got mine! The tone from the pickups is amazing. Love the ebony fretboard and brass saddles. Mahogany is a great tone wood match for the pickups. Pitching the promo as ‘garage rock inspired’ (whatever that is supposed to convey) doesn’t do them justice. Way to go, Fender!
It means they're inspired by cheaper department store guitars that were first available as early as 1965 - 1968. Think like the Kay Vanguard II, the pointy red burst one. Some of those had gold-topped pups, but not Teisco Gold Foil pups - they were a variant of Kay's "Pancake" pups.
Yea what Austin said.. if I had to think I would say garage rock inspired is a nod to Dan Auerbach back when the Black Keys first broke out. Used off brand electrics that he had to wrestle the tones out of, which gave his sound a special charm
How is the weight on yours? I went to my local guitar store, fully expecting to walk out with one of these but the one I played was heavier than my Les Paul! The tone was great, but the weight wasn’t - this hasn’t been mentioned in any reviews I’ve seen. I ended up walking out of the store with a Jason Isbell signature instead.
A great demo. A very nice looking Tele. The only thing left to round it out is to release a thinline version. Its probably already in the closet waiting on winter to break for a spring coming out.
These gold foils should definitely stick around. I need both the tele and the jazzmaster. Beautiful guitars, and from what i've seen so far, sound great.
Not great if you are looking for a real gold foil sound BUT if you want a unique and beautiful tele with an almost firebird-like sound... damn. And I do. I do want that. The neck/fretboard looks lovely too. I'm feelin this one.
Cool looking. I like the sound, but there’s just something amiss. The traditional bridge and the tuners look good but set off an alarm in my brain ( I play a Nashville tele and am spoiled by that)
Hi Cooper - new subscriber and just want to commend you and Chris on the high quality and value of your content. What are your thoughts on any advantages/disadvantages of learning on an electric vs acoustic? I only have an acoustic now but would like to get a Tele, or comparable, and a decent amp for home use. Any suggestions? I'm an advanced beginner/fledgling intermediate. Thanks
Get a line six for your starting amp, covers a wide range of tones, not too pricey. As for the axe itself, I'd go humbuckers in whatever body style speaks to you. Play before you buy especially if you don't know how to set up your axe. I'd avoid active pickups, Jazzmaster style pickups, and anything too different for my first. Single coils are gonna be bright and twangy, p90s are gonna be a sort of middle ground between singles and humbuckers, and the humbuckers are gonna give you warmth and hum canceling for distortion. You really can't go wrong and likely will pick up what you don't buy first later. I started with an SG by Epiphone. Reasonable price and let me know what I had and what I was missing. Once I knew, I replaced the pickups, scooped a Strat(which I hated), and then experimented with my friends after that. I found out that, in spite of wanting a Les Paul, I hated playing them. That Schecter guitars are just ok for me, and that Ibanez is one of the fastest necks you'll find. I'd sit down at your local shop and check out a few. Remember you can always fix the action, replace the pickups or tuners. Nothing beats having it in your hands. And don't buy based on perceived reputation. Like I said, I hated strats and they're one of the most popular guitars. I hated Ibanez until I picked up a midrange model. And I loved Schecter until I played a few in comparison to other brands. Good luck and hopefully you find what's right for you.
Nice warm tones from a tele. And it’s a beautiful guitar. At $100 more than a Vintera, it isn’t all that overpriced, so it’ll work for quite a few folks, I imagine. As a chicken plucker, I like more twang. It really is pretty.
It’s a metaphor targeting “chicken picker.” Growing up, my friends and I were farm and ranch kids and were referred to as “goat roapers”, “hay seeds”, and such. So I used the term in attempted humor.
Thyre just gold foil covers on mini humbuckers, they are not true gold foils. And it still sounds like a tele, kill the bright switch on your amp, turn down the presence tone or treble. I do like the bony fretboard if it is indeed good ebony, there is also junk ebony used thats processed to look like that smooth black ebony. I also like the 12” radius. If it were chambered, if you swapped that bridge to a bigsby and floating bridge, if it were short scale.. It would kind of be a cheaper Gretsch lol.
My question is more of what music purpose is it serving? If you are a Tele player and want a Country or real Tele sound why get anything other than a Tele? So are the pickups more suited to gain and distortion? More Blues than rock? Hard to tell on youtube. They look cool but just trying to see why I would want this over other options. Mini Buckers, P90s. Other than adding to the herd not sure if its worth it.
Good content, great short explanation, but my god does the Blues Junior sound thin and terrible. Not trying to be a jerk, but at least demo a new guitar with a decent amp. A Princeton at least…..
Take the muzzle off that Telly and let it sing, cry, and wail! The Fender gold foil pickups have a muffled and d u l l sound. What was Fender thinking?
Those are no true gold foils- it’s typical mini humbucker with alnico magnets. True gold foils are single coil pickups with “fridge” magnets - thus very thin and can be top mounted. It’s a shame that only visual characteristic is taken into consideration when discussing gold foils…
Good because I hate single coils, and bigger ones tend to be even more noisy. Idk why so many people like them, they're defective with that hum. This guitar is unusually spec'd out for $1199. It's really cute.
For some reason I don't like the sound of anything made by Fender, but I do love the way their necks feel. I won't pay custom shop prices but I'd love a Fender 10-14 compound radius fingerboard on a Les Paul. That would be heaven.
The only thing that makes it a Tele, is de body shape. The sound is nowhere near a Telecaster to me. I'd personally go for a LP kind of guurar, or ES shape / semi-hollow. But I guess there's a market for everything.
Tell me why I like MIM fenders more than American made? Literally every American I've played feels plasticy and over glossed and all the Mexicans feel like a classic vintage-ish Fender. What are they doing, it is so odd?
The word is "complemented" as in "... gold foil pickups are complemented by an ebony fingerboard and mahogany body." The fingerboard and body can't say nice things about the rest of the guitar... Cooper's hands do!
They sound like cheap chinese knock offs, it's really that bad.. I can imagine fender wants to even make cheaper guitars to make it more provitable to them.

@@PrisonerDmine is light. For mahogany. I git the white
I love mine. Bought a 2022 Gold Foil Telecaster Candy Apple Burst. It is quite heavy
Questions, what is the typical weight?
Is the fretboard rolled?
What size frets?
2 piece body?
No rolled fretboard, thank God. Typical, very nice weight and medium jumbo, I think. I love mine.
More interested in the Jazzmaster. As long as you test it before. Nice demo, Cooper.
Mahogany body, mini humbuckers with a modern C neck I call that a Fender Les Paulcaster and I want one.
😂true
nope, THIS is the Fender Les Paulcaster ua-cam.com/video/6E8tJ6MoPOg/v-deo.html
this gold foil sounds more Firebirdcaster to me.
Awesome as always Cooper, looking forward to hearing the JM too 👍🏻👍🏻
I'm a sucker for anything Tele. Looks really nice and sounds damn nice.
Me too. But my love affair with Teles started kinda late at 62 years old. But Im making up for lost time with 4 hanging on the wall. And a Strat also.
@G wat?
You will not regret it. It rings, crunches and chimes
A great demo. A very nice looking Tele. The only thing left to round it out is to release a thinline version. Its probably already in the closet waiting on winter to break for a spring coming out.
Agreed, thinking is needed
Thinline sorry
Im a big fan of this tone, still identifiable as a tele but it at the same time sounds pretty different
Nice job Cooper, those gold pickups look absolutely spectacular
Aren't these just a pretty foil faced mini humbuckers?
Yes.
I played one of those Teles and I didn't love it like I had hoped. I really missed the Tele in the bridge pup.
Dude you make it sing! Great demo presentation! I feel it has something missing in its sound but I am sure many will love it still.
Well said. They remind me a bit of my older Ibanez RG (INF) pickups. Very simple sound, but non-offensive.
Ebony for fretboard and mahagony for body is the right choice of tone wood.
Great reviews as always! Cooper you are such a great guitarist!!
How did you like the neck?? And do you have any specs for it??
Sixties mid c shape. I love it.
These gold foils should definitely stick around. I need both the tele and the jazzmaster. Beautiful guitars, and from what i've seen so far, sound great.
I just bought the tele it’s definitely worth it
They're just mini hbucker, normal pickups, with a stupid goil foil covering
Not great if you are looking for a real gold foil sound BUT if you want a unique and beautiful tele with an almost firebird-like sound... damn.
And I do. I do want that. The neck/fretboard looks lovely too. I'm feelin this one.
Waiting for Coopers review all week!!!
Are the pickups replicas or just mini buckers with A5 slugs? What’s the pickup construction like?
Mini Humbucker's. Very versatile.
Luv the GoldFoil sound!
I am a tele man all the way and this guitar makes every sound you can imagine. Chicken pickin too.
Does it chug?
Great tones and playing. Got a dept. guitar store vibe, and quite a beautiful look, to my eyes and ears anyway. Not spiky.
Great playing
Does this guitar have a 9 1/2” or 12” Radius? Thanks Cooper.
12 I think.
Would this be a good jazz guitar?
That guitar sounds great
Can you guy's demo a G&L Legacy Special for us???
Are you guy's a G&L dealer???.
Thank you. 👋
I really like the sound!!
Cool looking. I like the sound, but there’s just something amiss. The traditional bridge and the tuners look good but set off an alarm in my brain ( I play a Nashville tele and am spoiled by that)
Was just looking at these yesterday. Hate to go straight to the "ridiculous price" citicism, but they're a ridiculous price for MIM.
That’s the current rate for Made in Mexico Fenders, tho. What if it was $1899 Made in America?
The specs would likely be identical.
Sound good here from Canada. Cooper great vedio and playing

Good review. 😊
Cool guitar, and cool guitar playing!
Are they really vintage style gold foils?
No. Mini humbuckers

It’s a style of country playing. Look up Greg Koch
Where did Cooper learn to play?
I’m just here to watch Cooper
Are these pickups hum-cancelling?
yes

LOVE IT!!!!
I'm guessing the pots are 250k???
HEY! It's the guy from Gossip Girl 😂
Um, is pricing wrong on the website? It's $1,999.99 which is $800 more than everyone else :)
Dude that stash is off the hook
They have a very "pure" sound for humbuckers.
not my thing personally...... but cool video
Nice shirt
GFS has had gold foils for a while now

I would use it for 60s R&B rhythm playing.
Very cool 💯🔥
"Seemingly out of nowhere"
FMIC execs: "you paid HOW MUCH for that old Teisco???? We gotta monetize this"
Now thasa demo

This is very true. I’m still thinking hard on getting the gold foil Jazzmaster when it comes out.
If I put Gold aluminum foil on my SG pups…are they Gold Foil pickups? 🤔🤷♂️
Good because I hate single coils, and bigger ones tend to be even more noisy. Idk why so many people like them, they're defective with that hum. This guitar is unusually spec'd out for $1199. It's really cute.
AGREED. Piss-poor decision on Fender's part. Surface-level nonsense.
@@guyincognito320 Lol I hate humbuckers
Kinda reminds me of a firebird, kinda
great

Would it rock

Gold foil pickups should be made from cheap ferrite magnets and single coil. This is gold foil in look only. What a shame!
Awesome guitar but i cant stand the red
Sounds nice, but it's not leaps and bounds above other tele's. Definitely not worth the asking price.
Tell me why I like MIM fenders more than American made? Literally every American I've played feels plasticy and over glossed and all the Mexicans feel like a classic vintage-ish Fender. What are they doing, it is so odd?
Bee-autiful♡
The word is "complemented" as in "... gold foil pickups are complemented by an ebony fingerboard and mahogany body." The fingerboard and body can't say nice things about the rest of the guitar... Cooper's hands do!
big price for a mexican made guitar
I have to be honest, I'm not a fan of that tone.
They sound like cheap chinese knock offs, it's really that bad.. I can imagine fender wants to even make cheaper guitars to make it more provitable to them.
This was a hard video to get through. It basically sounds metallic bright. Not a great sound, but nice looking with that ebony fretboard.
