I don't think its about being "Scared" I think its about stepping up to the gig with a fresh feeling of how he is going to pull off his shoot. Nick has been at this for some time so he also knows how to sound like he has some sort of trouble thinking about his shoot. It's part of his act of being a showman with a camera when he is being interviewed!
In social media, junk contents get the most engagements compare to quality polished content. In a way, social media democratised everything. Take for example, Peter Lindbergh worried about the democratisation of photography. The idea that people can have opinions without having a talent is worrying. He said in 20 years there might be no more photographers. Photos with poor compositions, slapped on some fancy filters will be more likeable than a proper photography. The terms creator is big now, most people with cameras now regards themselves as a filmmaker, a photographer, etc. Everybody can self-titled themselves and assume their opinions holds merit just because they have tons of followers.
The reason it’s that way is you have to be very in touch with fashion and almost have the artistic vision for fashion as a designer would. It’s understanding the pulse of the fashion world and the communication that best fits it.
I do agree with Nick that you should let the shoot evolve by it's self and let it happen the day of the shoot, but being a working photographer you do have to do some sort of thinking of how its all going to work out in front of you. Preparation. most of us (Working photographers) have a goto set of things we like to use or do on set. It's all part of your wheel house as they say. That it's part of your style or look that you like to do. With a new location to shoot at the elements come into play. I think it was Philip Dixon photographer who said. "If it's raining it's a rainy shoot" So if you are out of your element it could be a good thing as it will help you stretch you ability as a photographer. That's what you get paid to do!

You can have direct contact with your audience BUT! you still need an audience! A lot of Instagram posters have silly looking content to get 500,000 followers, so in a sense it cheapens it......
So many photographers and designers are not paying attention to the importance of new technologies. Nick Knight is not one of them - he's super-aware.
