- This full-size 1917 World War One aircraft was scratch built from the original design drawings over a period of 24 years by the members of the Aviation Preservation Society of Scotland. (APSS) www.apss.scot/
The maiden flight was near Edinburgh, Scotland at 2pm on 17Sept2024 in excellent test-flight weather conditions with light and minimal cross-winds down the runway, strong sun-light, clear skies and warm weather. Note the ground shadows through-out the flight. This test flight was successful, and identified a number of minor issues now being evaluated. The aircraft is based near Edinburgh currently while the flight trials progress. The aircraft is at Nov2024 starting the final stages of CAA flight duration sign-offs. The APSS have also started building a Sopwith Pup and have recently completed a 100% accurate and operative Spitfire Mark 9 full-size cockpit flight simulator.
I am in awe of your achievement. Amazing.
Very cool! My kind of plane, my kind of flying!
Congratulations for the Maiden Flight!!!👍😘
Very very nice, a beautiful build, thanks for sharing and heartily congratulations! 🎉
Awesome well done all
Congratulations !
I love the shadow.
Great accomplishment and a beautiful job. Did the original have an electrical system and a starter?
Indeed, and should it be a rotary engine?
That's beautiful! I feel like building one.
Great work! How do the moveable surfaces at the inboard of the trailing edge of the lower wing work? I've seen old photo's of the cockpit handwheel but wondered how they could be used.
Don't you mean Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter?
Commonly known as a Strutter.
Twenty four years of dedication. 🫡
