Here's a fun little story. I'm playing the game in my native language. We actually kept it as "Princess Peach", so I maaaay have cringed a little when they started running along the shore, but as far as the rest of the cutscene goes, it didn't really bother me and I had trouble understanding why everybody hated it so much. Well, watching it in english made me realize a thing or two.
I myself have criticized DS plenty (mostly game play aspects as I find them highly flawed), so know I'm not up Kojima's ass when I say I think that's the point? (Spoiler warning though I doubt it's needed here). Amelie is a lie (as she herself tells you on the beach, "a soul that's a lie."), she's a fantasy, the sweet, helpless, girl that Sam had to save (keep in mind she just admitted the second part of that is a lie in this scene, she manipulated Sam into rescuing her). Not only that but she, who is Bridget and therefore also his mother, the woman who raised him, essentially stole him from his father, killing the man in the process, AND Sam was doomed to be a "repatriate freak" as a result. But Sam hasn't admitted her lack of innocence (and doesn't know the rest) here, he's saved the girl, convinced she's innocent despite her admission (keep in mind it takes until a notable amount of time after this for Sam to come to terms with her role as an EE), and now they're together and going back to our world, the thing he's ALWAYS wanted. But that doesn't happen, because that doesn't exist. I think the weird af ooc tone here MIGHT be trying to emphasize that, it's beautiful and simple and soft, which the reality is far from. That's why the cut to the confrontation is so harsh and jarring, it's reality forcing its way back in. Of course I could be dead wrong and it's just a weird scene, that is entirely possible and Kojima is FAR from flawless as some try to act he is. (Also PS. I know she's not his biological mother, but she acted in that role since he was an infant so I'm gonna call her that generally).

He was using a MICH 2000 with Sound Amplifying Headset and an M4A1 with a Tac Rail(Could be a Block II) that has AN/PEQs attached to it. I don't know his vest though. But it looks very dated too.
SF guys, especially Marine SF still wore old style patterns depending on the area they covered never really got an explanation why while I was deployed... but it wasn’t uncommon even during Enduring Freedom

You can tell that dear Tommie had fun recording Hardman's lines in this scene. His delivery just oozes catharsis and rage that he's finally letting come out. There's a reason he's my favorite voice actor.
What a fucking masterpiece. It has all the ingredients of a true Kojima game. It's campy and childish at times, but fucking heartbreaking and profound when it needs to be. I can't wait for the sequel (there will be one, right?)

Yes, cliff thinks that Lou is his son but who he is actually looking for is Sam, Amelie says that he is looking at the wrong place and then points to Sam's general direction, she never says the truth to cliff, but she always brings him to Sam, and the reason she tells where Sam is, is because she wants him and Sam to reconciliate, it's explained during the credits at sam's beach, and yes, she is horrible at reconciliations.

I'm fairly certain that that's intended that way. Its a bait and switch, not just this, but the boss fight with Higgs and his constant referring to video game terms such as "game over" and "Boss fight", saving Amelie, Sam comparing themselves to Mario and Peach and then gleefully running along the beach into the sunset is intentionally cliche making you think the game is over, only then to pull the rug out from under you and revealing that Bridget/Amelie is the real bad guy and things are more complicated.
Watch the scene and still confuse. Soo. Where Cliff get the skeletons bodyguard? Is he military before getting killed? Is the white dress woman is the red dress woman?
