I don't think the guy is in love with the two women. He only loved the producer. The actress tried so hard to gain his attention but still failed. He only settled to see how adorable the actress is when his heart got so broken for being finally rejected by the producer. If the producer didn't reject him, he would still be trying to pursue her and keep on ignoring the actress.

This was such a well written show. As much as I love Cha Tae Hyun and dislike Kim Soo Hyun's stilted acting, the brilliantly written relationship dynamics in the show made me completely empathise with his and also IU's unrequited love. I like that while the younger ones are bolder, thinking about their love in grand terms capable of changing people's worldviews and stuff, the older ones are more mature and restrained about their love because they've seen hurt and disappointment. They know that having good intentions isn't always enough. Also I love that Gong is patient with rookie PD and tries to guide him to the point where they don't destroy the original relationship, which is important since they both work at the same place. This show is so good and realistic, at least in the time frame of the show. IU doesn't get the cute guy, just because she's the lead pretty girl and he's the guy. Kim doesn't just drop his first love at the first instance as well. He needs his time to recover, sort out his emotions and then voluntarily go to her, just like what Cha Tae Hyun does in the end. But the ending for IU and Kim is written openly, suggesting that they are well on the way to their happy ending, and time is on their side, while we get the PD couple ending because their time has finally come. Fookin brilliant writing.
@@dary7638 doesn't change the fact that whenever he was onscreen I wanted to skip 10 seconds. Maybe they gave him the award because compared to his absolutely horrible turn in "my love from the star" this was a lot better.
KSH _was_ supposed to act like a super awkward rookie PD, so I think he nailed his acting if you found it stilted. His character was someone who made other people feel awkward watching him, lol, and you can second-hand embarrassment on his behalf.
