  • I love this product because it is 100% waterproof, there is no wait time for grout to cure before use, and you don't have to worry about cleaning grout after the fact! I'm not endorsed by Dumawall but I am very pleased with how easy it is to use their product. If this is your first time tiling, this is a great product because you don't need to buy special tools. This video shows you pretty much everything you need to know to have a successful first tile job.

    Really should tank/seal the wall before applying any tile though. If your sealant fails in just one spot then you’ll have a failed wall behind and may not know it for years. A tub and water proof paint and tape costs only about 60 bucks.

    I'm going to try this on my bathroom renovation--a tub surround. It's called Palisade now, but is the same product. This video was very helpful, thanks!
    I'll be using GoBoard backer board and waterproofing that well. Then I'll do what's done with tile and use silicone in the inside corners so I won't be using their trims - I really want a sleeker look anyway. I don't think you need the inside corner trim unless you want to hide bad cuts. I'll be using Schluter jolly trim in other areas. Some of the older Dumawall pics show metal trims--so there are options.
    I'll be constructing a couple of niches and creating a glass tile "waterfall" vertical accent on one side. For the outside corners of the niches and the edge of the glass tile band, I'll use a tiny Jolly trim in polished chrome (which will match my bathroom fixtures). I'm hoping to end up with a very minimal metallic line in those areas.
    Because my tub is in a tiny 5' x 5' room with the toilet, I've decided to do the whole room with these tiles, up to the ceiling too. That'll also keep me from having to do an edge trim.
    I've been going back and forth between using real ceramic/porcelain tiles vs these vinyl tiles, but I keep coming back to these. Large format tiles can be challenging to work with and I can cut Dumawall/Palisade tiles more easily. When I look at my tile samples at home, these look just as nice as real tiles and I won't need to rent a wet saw or buy diamond blades.
    I can't wait to see how mine works out!

    Two years ago I used Dumawall to do a waterproof wainscot in my garage. I really like the result and it's so easy to install. The only downside I had was that Lowe's stocked the tile, but not the trim pieces. It was like buying a car and finding out it didn't come with wheels. I managed to order the trim I needed through Amazon, and finish the project. I had enough left over, that this week I decided to use it up by doing a shower right over the top of ceramic tile.

    Thanks for the video. My only concern is the bottom of that window. The trim is higher than the tile itself which could prevent water from flowing out of the sill. I'm wondering if there's a way to even out the trim with the thickness of the tile material.

    Didn't you watch the Dumawall install video? Adhere the tile, then apply thin bead of sealant along the top edge to waterproof. Seems like adding the sealer while holding the tile and then applying adhesive to the back is complicated and messy.

    Just the video i was looking for! What color is that? I'm sitting in front of a sample of Frost Nickle. I'll be installing over existing tile and bullnose trim. Not sure how I'm going to do the edges as the tile sticks out about 3/4 inch from the wall. Also there is no wall on the right side of the tub. It's a shelf that can be used to sit on or put bottles/shower stuff on. So that'll be interesting. It's only temporary as a complete remodel is due in a few years.

    How is your install holding up? Been considering Dumawall for a bathroom remodel but I'm concerned that PVC expands & contracts with temperature change. Any issues with panels buckling or separating? How is the finish holding up. I have severe hard water stains on my old fiberglass tub and I'd expect that problem to be far worse with Dumawall. As you know the decorative surface is no more than a few thousands of an inch thick - apparently sprayed on. And that finish coat is somewhat porous. As an experiment I marked a sample panel with a Sharpie felt pen and when I tried to clean it off the decorative finish came with it. Try that with a glazed ceramic tile and it cleans off easily with a bit of alcohol.

  • @myway148
    @myway148 2 роки тому

    You should use Red Guard or another waterproof coating before starting your wall covering. You should also put the silicone for the joints onto the piece that is already on the wall. Also, this stuff cuts very easily with a sharp utility knife. Just score it a few times using a straight edge and snap it off.

      I purchased everything except adhesive and sealant from "diydecorstore.com/product-category/wall/brands-wall/dumawall/", I found the recommended adhesive and sealant from Lowes because it is important to use fresh product, and I didn't want to count on them shipping me old stuff (shelf life is I think one year but I would use anything over 6 months).
      Anyway, the diydecorstore is a great site and you will see they have everything you need and every color available and they will ship you free samples (you pay shipping). They offer a 5 pack of trim (much cheaper that way) but I didn't need 5 pieces of the same trim. The girl I ordered from said no problem and I got 3 corners and 2 j channels for the kit price.
      I don't mean to be so long winded, but I only wanted to have to do this job once, do it right, and get the best color tile, and that website was the only place I could find the selection, the samples, and the trim in one place. We had 6 different samples taped to the wall a week before we made a decision. It turned out better than me or the wife could have ever imagined. Good luck.

    Got dumawall for our shower area. After a long process of a complete remodel of our 1940's bathroom I've arrived at the point of putting our dumawall on the shower interior. I have cement board and slightly uneven surfaces where the boards meet due to quickset.
    Wondering.. will the generous application of power grab mitigate the deviation of the wall and still be mostly flat to the naked eye?

    • @SpiritofaHandyman
      @SpiritofaHandyman  3 роки тому +1

      I would want the subsurface to be as level as possible so that if/when someone pushes on the tiles they don't buckle inward. The answer to your question is that it would probably work, but I don't think it would be worth the risk. Go ahead and skim coat the wall to make everything smooth and even.

    • @bogieman101
      @bogieman101 3 роки тому

      Really disagree with you there. I used the Dumawall as a tub shower surround and the inside corners really improve the water resistance, and if you have a wall that is not plumb as mine was (1970 tile job) it greatly helps with not having to make exact custom cuts with each piece. I still tried to get as close as I could.
      Where the tile stopped on each outside edge, I though about not using the j trim and just caulking, but the tile is not the same color throughout and it would have taken an unsightly thick caulk bead to cover it. The J trim looked professionally finished and will never need any more attention (recaulk). Where the tile stopped on the top (6 ft above the edge of the tub) I did not use the trim as I thought it would look bulky, and it also turned out great.

    "Choosen" 😐 Soooo... this is just a temporary product and you just remove it and reinstall when the silicone lets go? Silicone has to be reaplied in environments like this and if just squishing some on top was good enough you could just install regular tile like that... which you cant. This seems like it might be good for a trailer or a temp solution until your real shower wall material is available.
