An interesting way to go. Personally I would have hit that Vanguard simulator to get the Piloting and other skills up. You don’t have to take the oath, so that could be considered free training, which is good! Looking forward to episode 2.
While the vanguard simulator is a decent way to get your skills up, one of the things that you will quickly find with this challenge is that levels aren't what is holding you back - money is. If you need experience piloting ships in combat, the simulator is also a great way to get that experience, but after playing the game with a few characters and focusing on ship combat for a while, I don't really need experience flying ships in combat either. That being said, if someone wants a spaceship focused game, but is still willing to engage in some ground combat, I would definitely recommend working with the UC vanguard (and even go all the way through the vanguard quest line), both for the vanguard weapons and because at the end of it you get access to the vanguard missions which include hunting down more pirates/spacers in space combat. However, for me it involves a bit too much ground combat for me to want to focus on at the start of this series, though I may find myself growing bored and running through the entire quest line later.
