Thanks James for your really sincere review...🌟🌟🌟 After testing grand pianos by Steinway, Bosendorfer, Bechstein & Schimmel, I decided to buy a Schimmel as it had the best responsive action for my hands & fingers. I could play the Schimmel & Bechstein comfortably whereas Steinway & Bosendorfer were playing me...Thank you! 😘😘😘
Very happy to see you playing a Schimnel. I own a Schimnel upright and to me is the best upright sound for my taste. Very warm and balanced. The closest to a Steinway sound IMHO. Lovely video! Thank you!
If I would use one word to describe the sound of this piano it would be, "balanced". The sound is well-integrated from octave to octave with no one portion of its range being suppressed or overpowering. I like it a lot!
I have a Yamaha upright in my livingroom. But yesterday I went to a big pianostore to buy a piano for my studio. I played old and new ones. I fell in love with a little Schimmel. It did exactly what I wanted it to do. The sound is so bright and round and so clear and warm and happy. They bring the Schimmel next week...'can't wait. You played very beautifully. Loved the review. Greeting from the Netherlands.
Thank you, James. Really enjoyed this video. I'd never heard of Schimmel pianos, and I'm so happy to be introduced to one. I loved the sound. I was thinking "clean" just moments before you used that word to describe it. And what a gorgeous instrument! The combination of the deep black outer surface, the burled (is that the word?) wood interior, and the ochre harp is extraordinary. Conceived of and built by a true artist. Thanks again for this. Lovely.
Very impressive piano! Well, those German high quality pianos are all beautiful sounding, but I like the blend of registers on this Schimmel. I still like Blûthner and Bechstein best, but Schimmel is in their league, that's for sure!
@@ThePianoforever I bought a Schimmel 109 Upright from 1989. It has a very warm and clear sound, I love it. Hopefully you'll test Schimmel Uprights in the future.
Nice to see a good review of a Schimmel piano. I've had an upright 118T in walnut that I bought new in 1985 and has much the same attributes of this one. A bright but warm sound, lovely clear bass and a beautiful light action. Very under rated pianos in my opinion and definitely amongst the best around the time I bought mine especially for the money.
Thanks for the review. I‘m surprised to learn that Schimmel pianos aren‘t that common in the US. Here in Germany, if you asked the ordinary German in the streets for piano brands most certainly Schimmel would be the one people would come up with. With certain people it‘s almost like a synonym for piano here. Maybe you can review the 130 upright Schimmel one day, too. I really like your reviews and put a lot of trust in your verdicts.
Yes, nice piano with the slightly bright but still warm quality that high-level Schimmel's possess. The harp is definitely more orange than most other pianos. Bosendorfer's harps are a bit orangey and some of the Yamahas, but this harp is the most orange that I've seen.
You surely are an accomplished musician AND reviewer of musical instruments and I applaud you for that. You said that if we have suggestions that we would like to see, that you would consider doing a review. Since you reviewed organs and player pianos and even music boxes, I have a suggestion. If you could review an accordion. Since there are many types, some with keys and some with all buttons and truly an old instrument, I think you are the perfect person to do a review. Thank you James for sharing your talent and allowing us to expand our knowledge on the various instruments.
Great minds think alike... lol. I'm on a roadtrip right now, and one of the things I'm bringing back the studio just happens to be an accordion, with a keyboard on one side and I believe 91 buttons on the other side. It has a lovely sound and I will do a video of it once I return.
@@ThePianoforever That sounds great! It was just until recently that I saw an accordion with buttons on both sides, no keyboard. I was wondering if you could comment on that. I thank you for quick response to my comment. I look forward to your next video. Happy holidays to you.
Hi James! I'm new to your page and am curious of the titles of the comparison pieces you play on every piano. They sound very calming and serene. Keep up the good work!
I like the colour of that soundboard! (It's close to what my truck is) The larger casters are nice, other than fingerprints all over the side of a Steinway in Saskatoon's premier concert venue, I hate seeing the framework contraption so many pianos have for ease of moving them. Just takes away from the lines of the instrument in my eyes.
Why is Schimmel not that popular there (anymore?)? Keep on comparing Schimmel pianos. I have the 130 T (from 1998). Maybe you can do a review on it someday? Haven’t found a review anywhere so far. Not as a video nor as a written review. Would be very much appreciated! I really love your reviews.
Large casters can be fittet to order I guess. Especially if a piano is going to be moved a lot, you should fit large casters whatever the size of the piano.
The sound is really excellent balanced and beautiful. The sound of the bass ist so rich in its .... just ... perfection. So soft and tender in the deeper bass, it's indescribable. I've never heard in my life, a better and or more beautiful sound, ever on a piano, like this one is. I'm not joking. However I do hear a sound like (pfffd... soft, but I can hear it), after the key pad is released. Where is this coming from ? I'm serious about.
One thing I noticed about this piano is that the damper pedal is very loud. it reminded me of a drum kit. Other than that, it's a wonderful piano with a pure sound. Am I just hearing things?
@@ThePianoforever I've often wondered how the one string can be C and the other C#. I realize tension has a lot to do with it, and there's a physics application that I've never understood, but, when looped around a peg, there's no tension regulator aside from it just being looped around a peg. And, thank you.
I have never thought Boston was a great piano, just buy a Kawai as they make it. I am also not impressed with any new Steinway as the company is presently just focused on short term profits and their quality control is suffering greatly.

Best sounding piano
A fine-sounding piano, James. I'm glad you were able to record one of the Schimmel Konzerts.
