I honestly cant even believe that content at this quality is available to the general public for free. This is extremely professional stuff, really appreciate it!
Legend! You gave me some great tips two days before I shot a 5 piece band in a small room. The shoot turned out to be a great success and without these handy tips it wouldn't have come up so good. THANKYOU!
Your channel is so informative. I’ve search for tips and tricks on how to film and edit a music video session. You are the only one who covers it all. Keep it coming Kriscoart.
Thanks for showing this, I’m a music video director for a music school and was excited how other people film music videos. I love the atmosphere you add, the fog in a can effect.
This video literally made me get out of bed at like 10pm to rearrange my office/studio in preparation for my music video shoot this week (which I’m filming and editing myself 😳😵💫😅). This helped me so much and I’m less overwhelmed and more excited to knock this out of the park! Kudos to you and thank you!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🤗🤗🤗
Good points. I actually felt scared when I used to record live sessions in night clubs and let me say, there is times when there is dark places. Later I learned about the low light prime lenses and I fixed the problem. Now I am getting big on setting up lights for live private recording sessions. And this video has helped me alot.
Thanks, great advice, I plan on recording myself, guitar vocals, another guy on a cajon .singer songwriter original songs. I have 3 nikon cameras, maybe I can borrow one more. Zoom h6, a few mics and a great space. Wish me luck.
Hi Kris as someone who would love to film some live music sessions I was searching this topic and your video cam up as recommended and I have to say it is absolutely incredible. I've seen it mentioned below already that it is hard to believe something so in-depth and detailed and professional with so many great tips I wouldn't have even thought about could be available just to watch makes the channel one that I am going to binge to death. Liked and subscribed and thank you for all the work you did in creating this for people like me to see 🙂🧡👍🏼
I just stumbled upon this video. It’s pure gold! Plenty of useful tips! I’ll rewatch it for sure. Love your attitude and energy in front of the camera, by the way. Congratulations, Kris!
Super information! Quick but very descriptive, love your thoughts on going into the the studio before the session. Getting the lay of the land. VERY HELPFUL. Thanks Kris. I'll be back
Great informative video so happy to find another channel that is more about what it takes to make better movies rather than gear gear and more gear, keep it up
I love your channel. One of the best as far as filmmaking information goes. I would love a tutorial on color correction and grading. Thanks for all your videos. They've helped out a whole lot.
Thank you for this! I have a question about the sound. How do you capture the sound from each person? Mic or instrument? I want to shoot a video like this but I’m afraid that the sound will not be right. 😊
You have to make sure that you all the audio recorded separate and edited/mixed. If audio isn't your expertise it is worth it to work with someone who will be able to focus on the audio recording and mixing for you to sync with your video. Make sure to record audio on your cameras though for easier syncing in post.
Can you do tips for recording a live concert buat only for personal use. Amateurish type that good enough to Watch later. With phone or with mirrorles camera
Great video, were the band miming to a previous take for each take or playing to a click track so that the sound was later overdubbed, otherwise how could the sound be synced ?
Hey I know this was last year, but have you ever made a music video from live one take footage to the song they sang in recording ? just wondering if you would ever do that
@Kriscoart Thank you for continuing to educate us. Question How would you handle syncing and capturing the audio in a live performance? Or o you just go with the on camera audio and get a track from the Artist and sync from that?
When you do single camera setups like this, how is the audio usually recorded? Are the artists doing playback to a pre-recorded track or are they performing and recording live? If the audio is recorded, how do you match audio and video once you cut everything together? I mean it does not make sense to close up on the fingers of the guitarist during a solo and actually hear a solo from a different take, right?
Recording live session u need audio recorder like zoom then with one or two cameras u can sync the audio without problem pluraleyes is ur friend to sync audio and video
When it comes to syncing the music, are you choosing just one "live or previously recorded live" audio track? This part is the only part I can't wrap my head around. Are you using the actual music from the live performance or are they giving you a track and then you sync it that way with the live? I hope this isn't confusing lol.
As long as they're playing to a click track so each take is technically the same length and structure, you can just do a couple of takes, sync up the stuff that's actually diagetic. Harder to do on one camera with multiple people as there's some room for improv (drums for example can be a bit more free flowing than say guitar, which, unless it's a solo or something pretty much HAS to be the same thing because that's how the song actually is).
i do my own videos like this and you can use both, but i prefer to use the live version i record when filming because then it syncs to the millisecond and doesn’t require any extra cutting/editing
Hi Kris, Thanks for this wonderful piece. I'm a newbie hobbyist videographer and I recently got a small gig for a live recording like this, and I'd like to know how you were able to effectively capture the audio. Did you just get the audio from the studio and slapped it over the video, or you had your audio plugged in from one of the studio's audio mixer to reduce the stress of post production?
Thanks for your advice and experience of filming. I didn't catch exactly what camera and lenses you used. The audio quality is great too. What did you use to achieve that?
Bro. This is right on time. I just got picked up to shoot a rapper's live concert mini tour. I've never done this kind of work before. Are they're any other vids I can watch that'll help me out?👊
Hey! Good question. Usually the cameras are synced up to one main audio recording. So if the artist wants the video to be based off the original song we use that or if they want a live session recording (as was in this case) the artist will record the live session and use the best take of that. So still one audio track to sync everything else on
How do you edit multiple takes of the same song played in a live session and make sure the audio matches? Even the best musicians will have some slight variance in their timing on each take. Thanks!
Hey! From my experience, a click track allows for multiple takes of "B Roll". The first take is live and the "A Roll". It is very important to get as much usable "A Roll" as possible. The musician(s) have a click track in their monitor, which allows for maintaining the same tempo for all footage.
What are your favorite types of shoots?
My favorite types of shoots are shooting live footage and spicing it with a song they didn't sing at the time I shot the video.
My favorite types of shoots are shooting order to this day my albums that from me send email to me
I honestly cant even believe that content at this quality is available to the general public for free. This is extremely professional stuff, really appreciate it!
