I'm a ham radio operator. Conelrad had a system that was connected to your transmitter. When the station on 640 or 1240 sent out a tone, your transmitter would shut down, turn off the power. The purpose was for all radio transmitters to be shut down, so the Soviet bombers could not follow your transmitted signal aiding their flights into North America..
