Hi, If you want to know how old it is check the die cast parts for a round shaped marking with a letter and an arrow in it. They used an alphabetical logic: 1984-J 1985-K 1986-L 1987-M 1988-N 1989-O 1990-P 1991-Q 1992-R 1993-S 1994-T 1995-U 1996-V And so on. From 2000 -A 2001-B And so on. Same applies to all your other stihls. Pre 1984 the logic can be applied accordingly unless the saws are really old. On my Contra I didn't find any marking.. Best wishes Marco
@@KainKustomGarage Hello everyone, I just checked a bunch of saws in my collection regarding markings in the air filter cover (easy to access). It seems stihl was not consistent with marking logic and I need to add infos: I checked air filter covers of 7 saws: 2 x 041 (1 no marking, 1 marked "D") 2 x 051 (1 marked "78", 1 marked "E") 1 x 076 super (no marking --> marking circle empty) 1 x 031 (marked "76") 1 x 039 (has a table with 12 columns and letters; marked "U" in column 12) During my restoration works I noticed markings on other parts as well. Just check your saws when you disassemble parts fir cleaning and you'll find something. Good luck.. ;)
When you were talking about the features of the saw, I was surprised that the layout is nearly identical to a McCulloch Mini Mac. The carb adjusters are in the same spot, the kill switch is about the same and the cast dog spikes are dang near identical. I wonder who copied who? Nice find, now you can be a part time arborist with it !
You are 100 % correct on that. The Power Mac 6 was the first top handle home owners saw that everyone copied. It is quite a bit different than the Mini Mac though, and the little Stihl is a copy of it. The Mini Mac came out in 1971, the Stihl in 1973, so if my info is correct, I would say that the Stihl was a copy of the Mini Mac.
Oh man that little dude is sweet! My buddy’s dad has the rear handle version of that saw I’m pretty sure. That is a sweet little rig brother!! Nice find!! Hope you’re having a good weekend man!!
@@KainKustomGarage actually headed up to Delaware right now to pick up my grandfathers 1959 homelite wiz. It’s been at my parents house in the shed forever, and my dad said that I could snag it to do a video. I have a short little video on my channel right now of it running, but I’m gonna do a deep dive. I’m pumped!
I have an orange one on the way being shipped in similar great cosmetic condition. It runs, but may need carb adjustment. It was completely rebuilt and converted to electronic ignition with all OEM parts. Brand new Stihl bar/chain. I’m paying $140 shipped. More than I wanted to pay. But according to eBay I got a good deal. Nice saw Dan!
When you were talking about and showing the features I was surprised to see that it is almost a clone of a McCulloch Mini Mac. The carb adjusters are in the same place, ignition switch about the same and the cast on dog spikes on the front of the saw are dang near identical. I wonder who copied who? Nice addition !
That's a great little saw! I think those were made only for a short while and manufactured in Germany. Not sure what the "L" denotes, I have an old 1970's ad (for mine,) says it's great for Limbing. Awesome find!
Hey man ! Hello there....from Norway. Stranges things...i got me one of those too the other day. Tophandle. Might got two even...or even three ha ha. I did not have time jet to get through the new pile of saw i got here. I know i have one from before that runs excellent and looks very good too. Never saw those before ... just now lately they have shown up here...for me. Not that common 015 ! :-) Much more of 010, 011, 0112 here and 020. Ok. Nice saw defenatly ! Congrats. Not too much for a price. It is a normal price over here if you lucky to find one... But if the seller knows some about saws...he would claim more than 75 $ over here in ( average ) rich Norway. Excuse bad english. Small saws are cool too ! :-) Stihl is top quality of course ! Thx for info !
i love little beast, i did couple mods on mine, clutch drum fits from 38cc china saw, oiler gear i did some work to fit splines, clutch is from 38cc to because original was destroyed and get little weak and noisy, if need help ask 🍺
There's one of these on Marketplace for $40, it's missing the air cleaner and cover next to the recoil and needs a new recoil spring. I wonder how hard a cover would be to find for it?
Hey buddy, score! You can save that filter & get it like new again by washing it with superclean & drying it out then hitting lightly with an open flame lighter..🍒👍🤗🤙🏻🤙🏾
The grease gun works on a plunger system. Pull the red cap off the front and your see the cone fitting for the tiny hole in the bar tip sprocket. (Not all tips are greaseable) Pack the body full of grease and pump away.

I think it's worth the money since it only needed clean up and tuning. It's a really cool little saw and looks great.

Mcculloch produced the "power mac 6" before anyone. They were the first in the top handle market.

Score , especially being from Germany. 75 well spent. Not every day you find a saw that clean of its age.
I know right, I just tell Kristina it came with that other lot of saws...🤣🤣
Been waiting for a video on this . What a find. I don't think you got hurt at all on the price. Great for limbs or climbing, you did good

I think that grease gun works by just pushing down. There should be a spring loaded tip.
That saw is gorgeous!
