Swayman is great but not worth any more than 8 milllion at this point and that's on the high side. Don't get me wrong I think he is an amazing goalie but I think the issue atm is the length of the contract.
@@user-xy3fo7rk8ulmao the worse goalie in the nhl and a backup with no nhl time… lmao you must want them to finish last then. Boston can’t score, their defense is shit.. if it wasn’t for goaltending the last two seasons they wouldn’t have made the playoffs.
@soup31314 In Sweeneys 9 years, they've gone beyond the 2nd round one time. So, making the playoffs hasn't been an issue, but offensive zone time and scoring has. Whoever thought Edmonton would be able to ride Skinner into the finals? He wasn't Ken Dryden, and neither was Bobrovsky, but gave them a chance to win.
Agents want their cut. Plain and simple it is not like the old days where it was a privilege and honor to play for a team, now it is about how much money your agent can make.
Free Agency created greed in all sports. Some call it an honor and a privilege to play for a team. However before FA teams literally owned the players and their livelihood
@@donvepley6451 that is an interesting take, you at first say free agency made everybody greedy. But on the other side of your statement, you say that prior to free agencies teams owned your rights and livelihood. So i am confused which is it?
@@soup31314 greed from both sides. Or 3 if you include the agents or managers as they were once called. Greed is not exclusive to just one side. So forgive me for not understanding your confusion
Thats just so wrong, players try to get term so their family can stay at one place, they have a wife and kids that don't want to move every 3-4 years. The 8 year deals allows the player and his family to live a stable life.
Why didn’t we have these problems when signing Chara, Bergy, Krejci, Marchand, Rask, Thomas, etc…. JS hasn’t accomplished anything yet. Just sign the dam contract.
2 words Lewis Gross... his agent... hes one of the best and the toughest agent to deal with... always getting the best deal for his customers... look at Nylander for exemple... thats the problem rn with JS... Gross trying to get the best contract for JS 🤑
I mean we did have a problem with signing Chara on his final contract and didn't. We did have a problem with Torey Krug. We did have a problem Jake DeBrusk. Marchand, and Krejci, and Bergeron all took pretty good home town discounts I think unprompted. And then guys like Rask, and McAvoy, and Pasta just got big contracts I think again with like no negotiations.
Sometimes, people just want to be paid what they’re worth. How inconvenient, especially when “what they’re worth” isn’t easily defined. It will all work itself out, there’s no need to denigrate anyone.
I mean as a matter of course him not signing likely means one of two things. 1 they are close to a deal and didn't want to bother (now this is actually less likely because internal negotiations don't have to stop for arbitration). 2 He knows arbitration would likely award him 6m or less and he's unwilling to play for that for 2 years. If it is in fact 2 that means this contract negotiation could continue to be long and painful. That's assuming Boston doesn't use it's ability to start arbitration tomorrow. Because realistically if an offer sheet came in on that tier 2 level 2 first 1 second and 1 third at 9.2m per year especially if it was a 2 year deal that's be rough. You'd have a hard time jusifying matching. Because frankly he's not worth being what the third highest paid active goalie in the league. Sorry he's just not. And beyond that it would mean going into UFA you'd never have successfully negotiated a contract with him. So even if you did have him. You'd probably shopping him throughout the deal. It's hard to know at this point whats holding this up. But I have to think it's Swaymans camp. Boston has 8.6 in cap space right now. You telling me they wouldn't like to add another forward? Of course they would. So clearly this money is earmarked for Swayman they haven't spent it for a reason that leads me to believe he's asking for more than that much. Which is too much. If he's asking for more than Hellybuck I'm pointing out that he's unrealistic I'm going to arbitration getting him for the 1 year at 6 and we'll revisit it again next year and probably do the same dance again.
100% agree, Swayman is a very good goaltender but he’s never been the man at the NHL level, Ullmark has been just as good. Swayman deserves 6 million, I could live with 7 but not a penny more. No team is going to offer sheet this guy in the 9.2 million range, if it happens take the return picks and run.
ds go get Tyler Johnson for low you need scoring help, marchy isnt getting any younger and pasta cant do it by himself. You need players to step up in the most critical times that's the playoffs and none has produced so far especially the 3rd line so please go do it.
Yeah because there’s literally any reason to believe he wants to get up and go play for some garbage team just because they’ll give him A few hundred K extra.. he loves playing in Boston. They are just playing extreme hardball. This isn’t a Don Sweeney problem, this is Jeremy Swayman‘s agent being a ruthless mf lol. They lost all their leverage when they traded Ullmark and Swayman‘s agent pounced like a lion. Cooler heads will prevail and he’ll walk away with his 8x8 which is more than fair
This guy is a good dude I’ve been watching his content for a while. No reason to take your frustrations out on him lol. In a scenario where the Bruins have no choice it’s unlikely that Sweeney is severely lowballing Swayman, and more likely that his agent is just pushing for way too much. If they didn’t file for arbitration that probably means they’re a lot closer than last time
If he had filed which he didn't it would prevent other teams from offer sheeting him. As it stands other teams can offer him something but the bruins can match. Unless as team makes him the highest paid player in the league he's staying.

Swayman could get signed and absolutely have a terrible season, goaltenders are a fickle bunch.
Swayman has not filed for arbitration.
Most goalies do have a sophomore slump, but we shall see if that applies to swayman
No worries. We have Vezina winning Ullmark and can move Sway for some top 6 offensive help. Wait, what’s that you say?
I am wondering if should have signed Swa before tradeing Ulmark
