The worst part about Halak's misplay was that the Bruins scored 3 goals after that (including an own goal by Buffalo) but fell just short, and that goal ending up being the GWG.
I’m aware this is probably biased, but 1) I don’t think that Kalynuk’s shot was going in 2) Murphy wouldn’t have gotten to the bench fast enough, so he actually made the right move trying to put the helmet back on (assuming that he was allowed to put hood helmet back on), and got unlucky with the chin strap
honestly, with the technology we have, i'm waiting for some kind of exoskeleton armor. but besides that, yea, one is that those are the rules (which they could easily change ofc) but other reasons might be because its easier for fighting and, they are superstars after all, so the players and the league need to market themselves. Steve u gotta understand that coaches always tell their goalies to stop wraparounds, even tho there is a chance that a bad bounce can happen. its not the goalies fault that stopping wraparounds is something every coach in the nhl demands from their goalies
You are correct and it - speaking as a goalie - kind of sucks. We can play it right 19/20 times in a game but you have one wild bounce and boom, everyone’s yelling at you to get back in the net. Or... TEND THE GOAL!
As a beer league goalie I have two guidelines when it comes to your teammates: - always trust your defenders, you need them to cover nasty backdoor passes - never EVER trust your defenders, who knows what they'll do with the puck if they get it, if they get a panic attack they might even try passing it to you!

The helmet rule states that a player can "retrieve and replace his helmet properly on his head (with or without his chin strap fastened), within a reasonable period of time," and that " It is reasonable if a player who is making a play on the puck or who is in the vicinity of the puck and engaged in the play at the time his helmet comes off, takes the opportunity to complete the play before either exiting the ice or retrieving and replacing his helmet." Players can pick up their helmets and continue playing if they put it back on and if their helmet falls off with a play happening near to them, the player can finish the play before having to exit the ice or retrieve his helmet.
Pavelski took a puck to the mouth for a goal during the playoffs against the golden knights in the 2019 playoffs. It was a nasty one, broke his jaw if I remember correct.
