Thanks for this nice, thorough, and very informative review. I was really looking forward to a review of this pen before deciding if I'll be pulling the trigger to be one of its early buyers. So this reallly hit the spot for me. I do need to point out one correction that is fairly central to the backstory of the design of this pen, though: That famous photo of the Oumuamua object that you also show in your video is not a photo of that object. There is no photo of Oumuamua object in existence. That widely shared image that you also used is just an artist's impression that's based on (and pretty flamboyantly exaggerates) what scientists have speculated about the possibly oblong shape of the object based on the type of variability in the limited amount of light that it was observed to reflect. No one has been able to image this object with anything close to the level of resolution necessary to make out its actual shape. In other words, it's hard to say that what people likened to the shape of a Benu pen is the shape of the Oumuamua object. It was just one particular artist's imagination of what the object could possibly look like that was similar to what Benu pens look like. To me, that's a significant distinction that's worth letting people understand.
I don't really prefer the sparkly pens,but wanted to support BENU so I got a Black Skulls Minima which is a great little pen. More than two turns to uncap is a feature I see as a design flaw. I sorta hope they come out with a slip-cap or a magnetic cap.
I for one am absolutely all over the gaudy designs BENU does 🤣 sometimes they miss the mark and make something that looks more like a cheap toy than a real pen, but this one is absolutely a win.
The pen reminds me of the Talisman, a bit. It does look larger which is not a bad thing. I like the resin a lot. It does not as much "bling" as with other models. I doubt I would post the pen due to the length. I didn't realize the section size is the same with other models. I have found Schmidt nibs are very good writers, perhaps moreso than Bock which can be temperamental, in my opinion. Thank you for the review, Mick.
I really like Schmidt Nibs… and dislike Bock as a general rule. I always have to do so much work to a Bock nib to get it to write the way I want it to. This Benu Astrogem is significantly bigger than the Talisman… and has a much more exaggerated faceted profile. The Astrogem is a beautiful and interesting design in my opinion. Yeah, I love that the sections of the Euphoria, Astrogem, and Talisman are all interchangeable. I like when companies do this sort of thing. Thanks for watching!
