Lanthimos' films are much more than Oscar movies. He is much smarter than anyone in the Oscar-Hollywood community. They should be feeling lucky and honored to have him there.
Yes cause I mean Hollywood in general isn't about quality but more commercializing big stars. Everytime I see Hollywood movies with cheap film stars acting poorly. Thats a fact
Yorgos Lanthimos's 'tragi comedic' take on our contemporary world of fake news/histories, social media - nobodies becoming influencers of culture society and power seems to have eluded interviewers/critics . Yorgos mindful of the mindless superficiality generously indulges all and sundry with evasive commentary on technique camera direction and steers clear of discussing the movies bitingly incisive take on the sorry state of OUR (with a u)world. Throwing pearls to swine and shrugging your shoulders is perhaps the best option.
Star wars tshirt for an interview with Lanthimos? Maybe reach a bit and go with a little more interesting star wars shirt like a Japanese film poster from ESB. Nice interview... would like to see someone bring up the amazing sound work and composing.
'Oscar movie' has a very negative connotation today. It just sounds like some arty independent movie with racial/homosexual undertones that is different but wholesome enough to appeal to a niche audience and most of the critics but not so far out there so as to polorize them.
@@Dragic27 I don't think 'Green Book' has a niche audience. It won people's choice award at Toronto International Film Festival. I was thinking more in terms of 'If Beale street could talk'.
The Favourite is a great looking film and the performances are top notch, but, Jesus! Talk about Emperor's New Clothes... there are some really silly scenes, the plot is awful and it ends on a shot of kaleidoscopic rabbits that made no sense to me whatsoever (or maybe I should take more LSD). I was SO fucking disappointed in this movie.
Not sure if I'd end it with the bunny kaleidoscope myself, but it's understandable enough. SPOILER Queen Anne has lost all the love in her life: her husband, 17 children, and finally Lady Sarah. All she has left is Abigail, the greedy maid, and power. When Abigail bullies and steps on one of the rabbits (the symbols of lost love), the queen bullies her, by ordering her around and even pressing her weight on her forehead.
I would like to complain that this movie is not advertised properly. I went to watch the movie today and I was absolutely appaled that this movie was 15. The number of sexual scenes, vulgarity and swear words is Atrocious. It's DISGUSTING and it should not be 15.
I hope you realize your description makes it sound very interesting to 15-year-olds. It should be added that it's based loosely on historical events, is about female power and friendship, they've probably only heard of one of the main actresses, and all of the sex except kissing is off-screen. Oh, and most of it involves people well over 30. There. That should scare them off.
For the kind of movies he makes, Lanthimos seems like a very friendly and approachable person.

Exactly. That's also why he won't win any oscar (luckily)

Geez the interviewer could have chosen a less embarrassing shirt.

Star Wars is a masterpiece. Perhaps Lanthimos enjoys it as well.
