@@Lunathecheetahgriffin the thing is horror movie where a microscopic mimicking alien parasite infects and mutates those it infects into body horror monstrosity
i still remember that Eddie Murphy scene. i always loved how he looks up at the ceiling in horror. this figure is pretty awesome too. you don't really get to see what everything is in the movie because it's so chaotic but the spider dog is a really horrifying thing. mans best friend into mans worst enemy.
Daddy Daycare was a great film. I'm glad you caught the reference! This figure really does allow you to better appreciate the work that went into the designing The Thing. Thanks for watching!
Ok the front tentacles not actually popping in is a massive oversight imo that should’ve been a ball joint. I guess I get the head since it’s supposed to fall out anyways but that’s it
The movie is honestly heart breaking, they definitely feel pain through this. It got so bad to the point that the people dont even know their human anymore. But that is what makes it a good horror movie not knowing you are even human anymore and chould turn into an abomination at any moment unable to control your body all you can do is watch as you kill people... while you feel unbearable pain as you do so... the tragic story is what makes this a masterpeice
The paranoia, sense of dread, and mistrust that this film instills is so incredibly well done. It's also unnerving he lengths the thing will go to to ensure its own survival. Thank you for watching!
Great review. The thing is my favorite movie and I had to get this piece along with the other figures in the line. I haven't opened them yet, have to say I like your idea of the gi joe dog. Keep up the great work.
I appreciate that! Definitely free those figures when you get the chance. They are among NECA's best. I hope NECA tackles other variations of the Thing. I would personally like to see a Palmer Thing sooner rather than later.
@@alanthecollector Dude fully agree! Palmer is a must!!! Yea i have many unopened. All the aliens and predators I have in a glass case been collecting them since the beginning haha.

Its one of those figures you don't wanna touch again after displaying it. I ordered one but i won't take it out of the box till i have a good area to display it
It's definitely a tricky figure to mess around with. I have it posed along side some of my other NECA horror figures. I think you'll be impressed with how intricate it is.
@alanthecollector the two front tentacles for the dog figure not fitting, seems like an actual oversight, you mention it yourself. Its hard to think it was intentional as its not good at all.
@@randomenvelope Oh!I thought you were referring to the spider legs. Yeah, it was a huge oversight on NECA's part especially because the packaging and product shots shows it should be able to attach properly.
I saw this at Target and passed. Reason why is cause I'm streamline what I get now which is only Transformers. My husband and I love the Thing movie and watch it at least twice a year. I still have the two Things from McFarlane from 20 years ago. Awesome video and enjoyed seeing how this figure works.
Much appreciated! I know you're streamlining your collection, but if you get another chance to pick this figure up. I highly recommend it! I think it will go great alongside the McFarlane figure you have.
Am I the only one who's had a damn hard time trying to assemble it? Some ball joints popped out of the wrong part (I can't put the tentacles in the paws' sockets as one of the paws still has its ball joints inside) and the dog's ''spider legs' won't stay attached and steady, no matter how hard I press the ball in the holes.
The tentacles for the dog paws don't actually fit even though the back of the box shows them connected. They can stay in if you press really hard, but they'll fall out very easily. The spider legs should fit in the back fairly easily, but if you're having trouble I'd lightly heat the fur overlay with a hairdryer. They should pop in very easily after that. Let me know if you have any other issues with the figure and thanks for watching!
@@alanthecollector thank you for these suggestions! I eventually managed to assemble it somehow, even though I think I won't touch it again soon as the dog is now in display in my room (and I fear any little bump will result in some parts coming out of their sockets :D)

They absolutely can. Fortunately the tongues, spider legs, and tentacles all have the same sized ball hinge joint so the are completely interchangeable and customizable to your preferences.
@Titan_Brady OK. One more question, if you don't mind me asking. How does it apply to this video? I'm legitimately curious. I just want to make sure I'm not missing the point.
I believe NECA began making figures from the Thing in 2022. They've released five figure in the line so far which consist of three different version of MacReady, a figure based on the movie poster for the film and finally the Dog Creature in this review. I hope this helps!
Actually, Rob Bottin did every creature effect for the film except the dog creature. Due to time constraints, John Carpenter and Bottin tapped Stan Winston Studios to help out with the effects for the film. Winston and his team as a result designed the dog creature. However, Winston was so impressed by Bottin's work that he did not want credit for the dog creature. In the end, Winston and his studios were given a special credit for the film.
The Thing is an absolute classic sci-fi, horror and suspense film. If you are into horror, paranoia and use of practical effects, then you are bound to love it
