  • This is how you paint a portrait in oil paint! Today's episode covers painting the cheeks. I talk about a variety of ideas here that I think will help. One of those is how you can benefit from feeling your own face to better understand the structure you're painting. Just don't do it with paint on your hands....I've learned that the hard way many times.

This is how art instruction should be taught. I'm a huge fan and learning so much. Thanks and continued success.

Bahaha I do the same thing man (touching my face) even when working in Zbrush (especially). So cool that without talking to you about this stuff, you do the same things. I guess it's pretty straightforward and logical but it's nice to know I'm not the only one. Form painters unite! -JD

Ha that's so funny! Zbrush is the perfect analogy for how I try to feel when painting. Like I'm toggling a 3D mesh in space

I too love your demos. I am new to your channel and am having trouble finding a sequence of videos. For example, for the aBove portrait how would I find all the related videos if I want to paint along?

The complete video tutorial is in his patreon webpage, here in UA-cam he only uploads extracts, unfortunately for us penniless mortals.

Hey Scott, I really enjoy your teaching videos. Question: if you are using oil paint strait out of the tube with no mediums such as liquin then how are your paintings dry to the touch in 24 hours? Are you using W&N Griffin Alkyds brand?
