Great takeaways! Thanks for putting this together. For me when it comes to blind COF using landmarks after finding and ranging to relocate those targets behind the gun has been a big help.
This is a good point- finding the targets is one thing, but finding them a second time after ranging is another! Need to have good memory process there to reorient on the target.
Got a little bit of that at last year’s event in TX; at least I was able to see wind direction through mirage there. Brand new environment out in MT had me scratching my head. I’m sure there are other tells for wind calls, although I was not used to looking for them!
If you want a tip for seeing mirage, get your scope/spotting scope into focus on a target/object and then back it off slowly until it just looses focus. This will often make the mirage pop out for me.
Interesting pistol stage. What was the distance you were shooting with the bag on your shoulder? Do you think that using an AR15 is beneficial for the ling movement especially because of the overall weight savings compared to the AR10?
I think we started that pistol stage at 25yds, then walked in maybe 2yds per shot until we were at about 10yds. The weight of an AR10 will not significantly impact the long movement. The small frame guns are roughly 80% the weight of a large frame but only 75-50% of the performance depending on chambering. The AR10 would be a good option if you’re proficient with it.

Love of learning, thanks for information.
Macro to micro description is always a good method. Here in Texas heat and cross winds are a learning curve. I need to shoot at elevation.

Been waiting on this
Hope it’s helpful!!
Good insight, trying to get back into matches, patience and mindfulness does indeed go a long way.

This is a great tip- I’ll give it a try next range day
