- Provocative and intellectually demanding, the plays of Wallace Shawn are as multifaceted and enigmatic as the man himself, known to many from his roles as an actor ('My Dinner with Andre', 'Manhattan', 'The Princess Bride'). Join the writer whom critics have placed in the first rank of contemporary dramatists for an unforgettable conversation on his unique theatrical vision. He is joined in conversation by theater critic Kerry Reid.

Great interview. Shawn is one of my favorites.
I've been struggling to figure out what I'd do for my mom's birthday. Sharing this link with her will be perfect as Wallace Shawn is a favorite for both of us.
I love Wallace Shawn!

Well prepared interviewer. Everyone's time is well spent here.

Incontheeevable!!
I gotta say, I would be very careful setting down two cups in a table beside Wally.
To be fair on Chomsky, he was seen as a political radical thus trying to publish in mainstream publications back then would be accepted. Today, in 2022, he may have had better success.
I've got to reply to this particular ignorant comment in this thread, as it is of all the ignorant comments I've read here the most egregious miss-framing of the historical context.
Chomsky was an tolerated outsider in 1980 - now here in 2022, he's an enemy of the empire - and if he hadn't lost his brilliance due to a stroke last year - would be in prison with Assange right now.
The framing that the enlightenment continues to be lead by the former republic is delusion - like that of the walking dead talked about in My Dinner with Andre.
Wallace Shawn sounds like my neighbor Tony.
Jake Ivan he is your neighbour Tony
Salvation through art? That's our path, Wallace? What a pleasant, pain-free, bourgeois path. Read Ludo Martens for at least a different perspective from what you got at Harvard on the USSR (Solzhenitsyn, Conquest etc) and bring your knowledge of China up to date sufficiently to reckon with 800 million being brought out of absolute poverty--one party that is democratically accountable is something you need to consider.
At 10:14 in if you let your eyes go out of focus and move back from the screen a bit, it looks like Wally is fondling her wooden foot.
Actually looks more like a wooden peg leg.
Wallace Shawn is Andy Richter and kyle gass's father
IN the U.S thinking like he does is surreptitiously considered a crime...

Shawn had no idea what he wanted to say, and then didn't say it very well. Hemmed nd hawed a lot. Big disappointment. Most other CHF events were great.
Every word he said was carefully considered. He thinks and speaks slowly, but means what he says. The only problem I had was with the motormouth interviewer.
@@tdpay9015 It is called thinking before you speak.
interviewer seemed to have stars in her eyes and/or pushing that horrid literary establishment deification thing - did you notice the narrative slap in her introduction? The twisted wages of idolization.
Blithered me timber☹️
Bumbling, inarticulate, dull.
