  • Who would have thought that "content creator" would one day become an actual occupation as opposed to let's say a hobby? Most likely not that many individuals. Yet here we are and not only can content creation be considered a career, it's a potentially lucrative to the point of life-defining one.
    However, there are challenges or let us call them growing pains.
    As a content creator, your goal is the make the most of your brand, with all it encompasses. On the one hand, this means amassing an impressive following so as to have a meaningful voice. On the other hand, however, content creators most definitely have bills that need to be paid as well... as such, monetization is not just a perk, it's a downright necessity.
    In one minute, this video will explain the economics behind content creation as well as monetization. A video published by yours truly, a content creator himself who also happens to be an economist. While there is no "one size fits all" advice that guarantees success when it comes to a career that didn't even exist a few years ago, this video hopefully provides some much-needed clarity on what it still a Wild West space in many respects :)

    Important update! The situation in Ukraine is BAD and action must be taken. If this channel has been useful to you at least once, please give me a minute (!) of your time by watching the following video dedicated to what I believe must be done from an economic perspective (anyone can help): ua-cam.com/video/nuZI_qBHyaY/v-deo.html

      I'm an economist: it's my job to make you ask yourself more questions, not provide answers :D
      On a serious note, though, we are talking about such a new career choice that there are no answers at this point. As such, I'd say it makes sense to embrace rather than sweep this high degree of unknown under the rug. Experiment, be open-minded and so on. Deploying intellectual rigidity is not the way to go at this point in time IMO.

    Hello, Andrey Polgar!
    Thank you for the simple and clear material!
    My name is Vitaly Pilipenko, I live in the Republic of Abkhazia.
    I have my own UA-cam channel dedicated to fulfilling Bible prophecies. My channel is not commercial and I don't get paid for it, it's my hobby, I study the Bible and preach about the imminent Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
    Now I am preparing a new video in which I touch on the banking system. Will you allow me to use your video clips for my video?

    Sigh... When you're a small creator, like so small that your videos get less than 10 views even if you work WEEKS on them, it's impossible to rise because the channels that are already popular show up first in searches, making them even more popular, leaving everyone else helpless to compete. It's like how large trees' leaves steal sunlight from small trees below them, but on an extreme scale. The only hope is to break out somehow, usually by making viral memes, but that hasn't worked for me either :(

    • @OneMinuteEconomics
      @OneMinuteEconomics  3 роки тому

      Keep at it, I wish you the best of luck! During my first year as a UA-camr, I was essentially talking to myself. Furthermore, my videos are not the viral type and I've made my peace with that. As time passes, as long as you have a well-articulated plan and keep implementing it, there is a reasonable likelihood that you'll carve out a little niche for yourself :)

    I didn't know blockchain tech was being used to advance social media platforms and the like. Blockchain is the future!

    • @OneMinuteEconomics
      @OneMinuteEconomics  3 роки тому +1

      I am among those who believe two seemingly contradictory things:
      1) On the one hand, I do not think blockchain technology is the answer to *all* of our problems. A universal panacea, if you will. In other words, there are some who state that blockchain technology is here to fix (pretty much) everything. I am not one of them
      2) On the other hand, I do believe blockchain technology can most definitely solve *some* of humanity's major problems or at least help a great deal... and that is more than enough. Is content creation and/or monetization one of them? In my opinion, yes

    Well, I mean you could always go and utilize your time wisely instead of hoping to hit the social media lottery.

    • @OneMinuteEconomics
      @OneMinuteEconomics  3 роки тому +8

      Social media = attention. The attention of (potentially) billions of individuals. Just imagine how much good you could do by reaching these people with educational content. Game-changing potential.
      On the one hand, I do agree that for most people, social media is a net waste of time. In that after drawing the line, the benefits you receive (education, quality information, meaningful entertainment) most likely do not outweigh the cons (polluting your mind, polarization, hate, superficial thinking, etc.).
      But that can change.
      Back when I started One Minute Economics, most people told me not to bother with UA-cam because it's for cat videos :)
      But be that as it may, even for something with as little entertainment appeal as economics, there's potential.
      Even if my videos are not controversial. Even if I am politically/ideologically agnostic and therefore never make "us vs. them" a theme. Nor do my videos provide cheap entertainment along the lines of me setting my hair on fire.
      Does my work go viral?
      Nope.
      But it gradually ends up receiving more and more visibility, from universities to folks who simply want to teach themselves economics.
      I can work with that. As can other content creators in the edu sphere.
      But this much I can promise: to stand even the slightest chance of making it with education-related content, you need to gear up and prepare for the mother of all marathons. The opposite of hoping you win the social media lottery, if you will. That's reserved for other types of content, primarily entertainment, politics/controversy and so on.

      @@OneMinuteEconomics That's great man and I know all about the attention economy as well but Its similar to actors; Go chase your dream but don't be surprised when you fail. Get a whole generation of people chasing these fantasies, and you can watch progress slow.
      One thing I can say is Starlink will make your channel obsolete or an Icon.
