100% agree. All this headache and pre-spend to "potentially" get "offered" a heavy bag with so many cons, the handles of 25 size are far too little and the 30 on some ladies can look very bulky!
I agree with you!! It's so insane to pay $10-11k for a purse!! There are so many great purses u can buy at a reasonable price! U can easily walk into any store and select any color, fabric, size, and handle u like that doesn't require insurance!!

All great points Isabelle. Confession: I sold my one and only Birkin because it was too recognizable. It made me a bit anxious that many people were staring at the bag wherever I went. I could become a target for robbery or something. I do have more than one Kelly though and it is perfectly understated! :)

I've been watching your blogs for 3 years now. I did not have any designer handbags until you posted 5 Bags I'd Buy If I Were Starting Over. It was a tag. I loved the 5 categories-everyday, casual crossbody, evening bag, work/commute/travel, and the wild card. I eventually bought all that you recommended except the wild card and love, love, love them all. The leather is so shiny and the silver and twill complements the sleek leather. Excellent choice. 7k is really not bad considering the quality of the Birkin and it’s resale value. I would definitely buy it if I had the house and car (eg., Mercedes, Range Rover…car ) first. As long as those priorities are in order then no problem. I drive a Toyota Rav 4 and I think I would look awkward carrying a birkin driving a rav 4 and living in a cheap apartment. Lol but we all have to start somewhere. Btw, You’re so cute.

awww… i completely agree with and accept all the flaws you mentioned 🙊 despite the cons, the b25 retourne (i have the sellier too but prefer retourne) is my favorite bag. i take it to work, out for lunch and to the supermarket. what can i say - it must be true love 😂🖤

This was really good. I don’t like the Birkin for most of the reasons that you mentioned. At some point many luxury brands have done their interpretation of it and I have found some of those much prettier and more functional. My favourites are the Diorever and the Prada Galleria.

I did consider the 25 but the whole rigmarole courting the SA etc is not for me ! I am very friendly and like people but I find the entire process ridiculous!!
One of my friends had a has a grey Birkin Epsom leather with gold hardware and it’s gorgeous, somehow transcending the not so adventurous design !!

Agree with your list Isabelle. I couldn’t contemplate the 25 due to the handles. The bulky nature of my B30 makes it the least used bag in my collection.

Excellent video! I my question is: whether you purchase from the boutique or from the resale market, the price will end of being about the same. I mean to get one from the boutique I would have to buy the bag plus buy other things that equal to or greater than the bag and then on the resale mkt it’s just double the price of the bag with not extra stuff bought. I really struggle with making myself find other things to buy when I just want the bag in reality, and then feeling as if I have to beg for a possible offer. Now I would rather spend big dollars on a Hermes bag as opposed to a CF . It bothers me to spend that kind of money on a CF when I know just a few years ago it was half the price!
True on the price from boutique or the resale market so for someone who doesn't like much else from Hermes, it will make total sense to consider the resale market. I actually love many things from Hermes (I actually think it is probably the most well-rounded luxury brand with many types of amazing quality items like homeware) so I don't have a problem with buying other items which is lucky I guess😅
Also agree on the price of CF, I don't think I will be adding any more.. the one beige clair CF will probably be it for me😆

Excellent and balanced review! Im on the list for a B30 myself but after watching your review I think I would rather buy the larger size and use as a tote. I’ll keep using my Chanel’s for dinner out and running errands. (WOC, classic flap, shopping tote)
That’s a good point! 30 is definitely an in between size in my opinion on functionality. And I agree, the Chanel bags are perfect for those occasions!
The B30 is an awesome size… I think it can transition well into night time depending on the color… would I wear it to a fancy dinner.. probably not… but I think it’s the perfect in between size… it fits quite a lot without getting too heavy…. But if you’re looking for a tote, then the 35 may indeed be best for you! I hope you get your dream bag soon 🤗

I've never been a fan of the Birkin because I've never had the same love for Hermes that a lot of people have.
I'm always so excited and happy for those people when they finally get their dream Birkin bag but for me I just see a heavy, plain bag that cannot be cross body.

Thank you for this video Isabelle! Love all the 10 different reasons you’ve stated. If you could restart your Hermes journey, would you have gone with a Birkin 25 first or a Mini Kelly? Assuming that all other choices are not available 😂
You know what! I would totally get the mini Kelly first if I was to start over! It has a clear use for me and I use it so much😍😍
My beige Birkin 35 is so heavy but it’s the right size for me so I will put up with it. It’s a Birkin, it’s a status symbol. I will carry it for what it represents! I was also able to attach a shoulder strap by referring to other UA-camrs and Instagrammers. So the shoulder strap issue is cleared which also alleviates the problem of heavy weight. And I have also decorated my B with twillies, and 3 rodeos to make it look cute and fun! But I do admit that because of these cons, I feel like one B is enough for satisfying my needs. I have other bags that are more practical and yet luxurious and elegant such as a red Kelly, a pink LV cappucenes, a pink Chanel coco handle, and a pink Fendi peakaboo. But if I were ever able to encounter a B in rose Sakura or rose confetti etc. which are my dream colors, at at a reasonable price, I may go for it. The chances are low but it may be fun to just hunt for one in my spare time. Anyway I enjoyed your video! Thanks!

You complain about Hermes but Chanel, Louis, Gucci and Prada are all the same. The more popularity they gain, the higher the $$$. They don't actually care about what customers they have, as long as they spend, they stay in business.
Sorry if I missed it but what leather is your birkin (and what is the colour? I can't tell if it's black or something else?)
It's in veau Jonathan leather which is a newer leather, similar to swift:) and it is actually black but has a matte look to it so in some lights, the bag looks almost dark grey.
The variety of textures in the *yutulux* pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.
My Coach Swagger 27 is a gorgeous alternative. And I sure didn’t pay the same for it lol. It has a Birkin-style look but has a removable shoulder strap and a zip-close with security snap. It is a beautiful leather, and I use it as an everyday bag a lot. I didn’t originally buy it because of its inspired look, but I realize it is now (eight years later).

I love love the look of Hermes Birkins! For me, I already know Birkins aren't for me--even though I have Chanel flap bags, flap bags are not my favorite. 😅 As beautiful as Hermes Birkins are, my bag function preferences outweigh the love for the Birkin esp with the price point. Great video!

Even though Chanel has raised prices - I still love Chanel flaps. When you think about how much you have to spend before to even be offered a bag you would spend more than buying a Chanel classic. A Birkin has no appeal to me at all - totally agree with all the points you made.
This is me to a T! I'm not a fan bashing brands because of their business tactics, but for me nothing beats a classic flap! The versatility, the colours, the different leathers, it's SO iconic....a Birkin 25 is underwhelming, when I tried in store the handle was an absolute deal breaker, what's the point in buying a bag (let alone the pre-spend) to get offered a bag you can ONLY really hold by hand? Very cumbersome imo! And the 30 for petite girls has an oversized look and it looked way too bulky on me.
In terms of H bags, for me Kelly is much nicer and more versatile ♥️

The birkin 25 /30 and even the 35 is used as a going out bag all over the USA. They love it as a dressy bag
Great points on the Birkin’s flaws but it occurred to me that most of the issues with the bag relate to actual comfort in every day use, practicality type problems and so forth, yet I imagine the Birkin as not really intended to be a workhorse for the professional woman (maybe for an Amal Clooney type professional!) but rather for a woman who jets off to events, meet ups etc (thinking of Kate Middleton type but not necessarily her in particular) I believe lifestyle plays important factor with certain luxury bags especially the Birkin!
Actually, I don’t think the Birkin is an events/going to meet ups bag since it is a pretty casual tote in my opinion! I would personally consider it an everyday bag but I see your point! Thank you for sharing your opinion xx

I was genuinely disappointed with the B25 when I held it. While I like small bags, not having a strap made it feel really tiny and ridiculous in my hand. I have narrow wrists but it didn’t sit comfortably. I just had to hold these tiny handles. Such a bummer. Your Birkin is beautiful though! Thanks for this video.

Another way to get a Birkin from a store is to try typical bougie European vacation spots like St. Moritz, Capri etc. I got myself a black togo B30 without any purchase history with Hermes. Just having a good ability to read people (the SA) and being friendly and engaging without being annoying or too pushy go A LONG way in those "buying on the spot" locations :).

This is probably the most honest review of a Birkin I've ever seen. I agree with your points: it's a boring bag. However, what appeals to me it's its simplicity and durability. I would love to purchase a bag that doesnt fall apart, that's hard to find these days. I also agree with you about the size, I'm either wearing a tiny crossbody bag or I need a giant tote. The in between size is cute, but not functional. I would buy a birkin, but I will never play the games. It's like capitalism won for real if you've got people begging and spending crazy money just to get a chance to be offered a bag. It's dystopian. I would only get one if I got an appointment at the Paris store, but that's pure luck. The bag is beautiful in my opinion, I think they look simple yet go with everything, but the price and the marketing behind the brand is beyond disgusting. It's playing psychological tricks on weak individuals and I'm not here for it. Your review is spot on.
My top no-no is weight; No large size, no chain strap, no thick heavy leather, no excessive studs grommets hardware.
I do like top handle smaller bags to force me to to carry by hand not on shoulder (cause of pelvic tilt). An option to carry crossbody is typically my go to. If I want to carry a lot of things I use canvas totes.

I think H is originally designed with relatively tall woman in mind instead of the relatively petite Asian (like me myself :D) so I only hv one B25 and don’t intend to add more, I think B look best at 30 and 35 and on tall casual chic style woman
I agree! It was designed for Jane Birkin after all and I believe the original size was the 35b
The Birkin looks heavy to me. It looks like a work bag but it would be too heavy with a laptop and a notepad. B25 and B30 would be the only two that would be reasonable to carry around without being in a car. The Picotin looks more useful than the Birkin IMO as they are both totes.

Birkin is birkin - hard to argue it. It’s not supposed to be everyday bag - I only use my Birkins (they are all B30s) for my Board meetings, so they stay crisp and exclusive.

I know someone. They very hush hush clearly said that you need to spend 1:1 to be offered a quota bag. I don’t know if you need to keep doing that but at least in the beginning. But we have all heard many stories about people who buy very little and get offered a quota bag.
A birkin mini size 20? Correct me if I am wrong but I thought for Birkins the smallest is 25? Anyhow, great points I have a B30 even though I am only 5’0 taller 😂but I prefer the handles and the comfortable everyday size. For tiny bags I prefer the Chanel minis way more than a Birkin 25 or the imposible to get mini Kelly or kelly20 lol. As per Chanel and Hermes I love both brands but I still prefer classic flaps more ❤

I hate to go to the airport with my birkins. It really needs a shoulder strap, not practical for getting in and out of for your ID, boarding pass, etc. I never close mine up, if you do you better hope your cell phone never rings!

B25 looks tiny in real life and the handles are too small. B30 is ok but quite heavy and I don’t have that many things to fit in. Perhaps a B30 in lighter leather would be good… I prefer my Kelly 28 which’s in between for the size and the handle is easy to get into. That’s why I still havent got a B (have a K and C and other non BKC bags)

I have never liked the style of the Birken. It is much too bulky to carry.
I agree that sizes 30 and larger can be quite bulky!
I think Berkin is overrated, the major flaw is how it slouches over time that kills the bag vibe for me, plus all these styles are classic made decades ago are not functional due to poor organisation features.
The only bag I feel is worth having from Hermes is mini Kelly or Kelly 25 it's a cute evening bag plus you can dress it up or down.
Smaller birkins (unlike their kelly cousins) look awkward. This is supposed to be a chic but also very casual bag in my head so having it in smaller sizes defeats their purpose.

This is a status bag only! Not functional at all. For the current times with work from home, there is no point in this bag. Get a bag that’s more functional and donate the rest to charity. I have a selection of bags but I would be embarrassed to carry this one because of the price point!
