If anything, the preexisting aftermarket offer is going to make things even more interesting, since the 400Z is lighter and more compact than the Skyline. Looks very very promising.

If you are looking for extreme numbers in order to compete in things like drift or drag then yes (Daigo Saito in the D1GP with his 2JZ Supra A90 is a good example; the B58 had no mods pushing beyond 800 HP at the time). However, most regulated racing is heavily restricted in terms of power which would definitely make things easier. That and the fact that the average buyer won't be looking forward to have a gazilion horsepower on this car.
Even if you're taking it to the track every now and then. Anything over 300hp is still plenty of hp. For the regular Joe that isn't competing on a Pro/semi Pro level it'll be just right. Anything over 500hp tends be too much to have as a daily. Which is what the majority of ppl will want out of a Z in the first place. It's an enthusiast car, a touring car made to be driven. The 400Z will continue the Z heritage. That I fell in love with when I had a Z32(90 300zxTT) as my first car. currently own the Z33 platform. I'm quite excited about this new Z. I won't be able to get one and my credit is fucked. But I can't wait to see one in person. Plus the price of 370zs will go down. Which is definitely going to be the next vehicle I own. Unless I can manage to find a Q60 for a few grand more. You'll be surprised at what you can find at an auction. Find a salvaged one to fix it yourself, would be the affordable route. Or at least have it as a parts car for a 350Z/G35 VR30DDTT swap.

And I only come to that conclusion because I want to move that motor into my current Z and see how I can make the new Z platform something of my own. Of course this isn’t with me buying it and swapping it at Zero miles! I’m going to enjoy the platform for what it’s worth and what it represents. My mind wonders at rapid speeds. And skips a lot of detail
The new look has definitely grown on me since the unveiling. Furthermore, I would even say this video really helped me form my opinion. I also have to keep in mind that the production model will NOT be the prototype. So with that being said, I really, really hope they keep the clean body lines; and don't add a bunch of vents to nowhere. Nissan really shouldn't cut corners like the frs vs. the gt86 concept in gran turismo. I'd wait as long as it takes to get a new z worth buying.

Same here, hopefully. I'm thinking they'll start at $45-50k then many years later be more affordable. That would only be a summer car for me up North so kinda spendy to only drive 7months of year occasionally.

I'm still excited to see this thing in person. But its a good direction that Nissan is going in from what we see. Now, its just a "wait and see" what that front will look like after a little "massaging". 😊
I love that the bottom of the rear bumper doesn’t have those half circles in it like the 350z/370z so that a single exit like tomei expreme doesn’t look goofy on it

that engine tick sounded just like my Q50 with the VR30, all the VR30 owners can confirm it with that sound alone, ticking lifters like its a god damn diesel engine.
Don't work so hard trying to convince yourself that it looks like a 240Z. There are design cues and elements, but this car has its own distinct personality. Black roof on top of the yellow is amazing. Nissan team in L.A.? Where is the car now and where will it be next?
I think the rear gives me a little bit of a s13 vibe, from when Larry was showing the pictures on his camera and the front gives me a tiny bit of a 350Z vibe. But still a wicked cool car
Best part of this car is the bumpers and body design “square” with all these newer cars, that look like something out of a terrible cyber movie remake, with a billion little trim pieces to fit into the bumper ...this is what we needed.
what is the rear centre garnish made of? it looks like piano black plastic material, and if so it will pick up ALOT of swirls and scratches. I hope they choose a better material or even matt black material. Otherwise the car looks EPIC!
The thing about the PROTO is that this is a car that I can't wait to get into to drive. To drive it. This looks like a car you just want to jump into and take up Highway 2. Or go out to Mulholland. Or up stunt road. Find the curves. You just want to gtet into this car and to drive it. With that manual? amazing. Spectrum of light is interesting to the artist and to the photographer. Again. I just want to drive it. I'm not all that jealous of the color because I own and drive a Racing Yellow 911/991, one of the first cars in the first year of the Racing Yellow. Think about the Rapid Yellow C8 mid-engine Corvette. This is a 3rd version of the yellow and with that black roof is screams, "Drive me!" AF
If they actually produce this, and maintain these body line.... I am sure as hell going to buy one! It will look great next to my 66 Roadster (when I get it done... VK56 w/ BMW DCT)
I think the garnish on the back looks a bit empty. I think I would've moved the reverse lights towards the middle like how the are on the old Z or maybe have it say 400Z instead of the Nissan logo
The garnish looks empty cause the rear plate should go where the Nissan badge currently sits. It would allow for more fuctional rear diffuser set-ups as well.
All its predecessors were already wonderful sporty cars that were very well on the road. The 240Z, 260Z and also the 280Z were real eye-catchers in the street scene of that time. The 350Z was also a wonderful drift car. The 370Z had more new technology than the 350Z. All versions had good performance and were also very good daily driver cars with very good handling. This prototype for the 400Z seems to have much more beautiful retro lines. A very nice combination of the beautiful recognizable lines and design from the 240Z to 370Z are translated into the design of this 400Z. I also want to be seen in this one. I love it. 💖 Nissan, performance and build quality go very well together. 👌👍
Huge Z enthusiast and really love the styling and lines Nissan created with this..... but there’s something off about the front end. Pause at 3:18.... just doesn’t look right. Maybe it looks too happy for Z? Needs more aggression in that smile LOL
