Play this track on a proper sound system at a very loud volume, then play every other cover of this song including the original…you will be shocked. “Wtf!?Every other track sounds muddled and I can’t hear the lyrics”!! but GillStudio’s cover is fucking brilliant when I’m blasting it in a high-wattage system! So, WTF is going on? Well, dear fan of P5, let me introduce you to the concept of mixing. Mixing is choosing what instruments are heard over others, where in 3D space they’re heard, and how they’re heard, on a a millisecond by millisecond basis. This track has an ABSURDLY GOOD mix… but sounds like it’s built on a concept of live performance. The problem is that the tiny speakers that everybody is hearing this on can’t produce what’s going on in the full dynamic range. Seriously, listen to this on the largest, highest quality, speakers you can muster up and it will become your FAVORITE cover of “Last Surprise.” It really is THAT GOOD! So, for the people who made this, how do make it sound killer on a smart phone speaker and/or consumer air buds/pods/cans?? My answer is that I have no fucking clue!!! My job has always been “approve the 5.1 and LTRT mixes so the DGA can establish an official handover date.” I know a good mix when I hear it, and this mix is NOT BEING HEARD FOR WHAT IT ACTUALLY IS!!
