I love the way the song starts with the little guitar riff and the ominous bass note. The way that changes a bit but continues through the first verse then completely changes up in the chorus. It's like Prog Pop! I've listened to this song for decades but just lately come to appreciate it even more.

A lot of ominous notes in Police songs. Usually something foreboding and off-kilter, a lot of chromatic songs, relatively few happy diatonic tracks.

Thank you guys for the exposure to the new words! "Ominous," "diatonic "......etc... This is what I love about music. Learning! Unfortunately I left school at the very young age of 15. However, I feel enriched with the education and knowledge that I have obtained through lyrics of music and people speaking about music. I wouldn't have the vocabulary that I have today had I not loved music the way that I do. I wish you guys a great day! ❤😊

I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but we’re talking about very specialized musicians that would rather play Jazz but Jazz doesn’t pay the bills. I know Primus albums are like adolescence but the playing is phenomenal!
Other drummers… I hate to be that guy but I absolutely love Keith Moon. I’m not a drummer but if I was….

There's also the guy raping her in the car but that's just a minor detail isn't it?

well, and he is tempted by it, but it does not imply that something happend between them so yes it is uncomfortable but not reprobate cause what we feel is not our choice

@@kazzymiller wtf? who's raping? you mean the lyrics -
      Wet bus stop, she's waiting
His car is warm and dry
where do you see rape there?
      plus
      1. nowhere does it say the girl got into the car
      2. we're not even sure that these lines were taken from his thoughts - they could have been taken from the girl's - she's planning what to say - "oh mr. Sumner - can I please take a ride with you? your car is warm and dry..."

      Wow! Aren't you a prodigy!
Did you also get the part about the teacher having feelings for the student too and yet knowing that it's inappropriate? Hence the song title.

    Who's the biggest criminal here?
    1) Sting, for lusting after young girls
    2) Stewart Copeland, for smoking
    3) Andy Summers, for that fake guitar solo

    • @jaclynzinck4241
      @jaclynzinck4241 5 років тому +80

Andy, without a doubt. Faking a guitar solo is worthy of the death penalty in some countries.

Well actually he was doing a guitar solo. In the song he played chords plugged into a synth effect pedal, so he actually was playing those synth noises. Look it up.

    • @james6234
      @james6234 5 років тому +22

Andy was actually playing his guitar through a synthesizer (A Roland guitar synthesizer at the time) And he'd tune it to 5th's and play 'strange chords' as he once said in a documentary.

    Young teacher, the subject
    Of schoolgirl fantasy
    She wants him so badly
Knows what she wants to be
    Inside her there's longing
    This girl's an open page
Book marking - she's so close now
This girl is half his age
    Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
    Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
    Her friends are so jealous
You know how bad girls get
    Sometimes it's not so easy
    To be the teacher's pet
    Temptation, frustration
So bad it makes him cry
    Wet bus stop, she's waiting
His car is warm and dry
    Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
    Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
    Loose talk in the classroom
To hurt they try and try
    Strong words in the staffroom
    The accusations fly
It's no use, he sees her
He starts to shake and cough
Just like the old man in
    That book by Nabokov

+ReelSerious In Brazil all the teens/young just listen funk, one piece of shit that just talk about sex, drugs and this kind of stuff (and do this with a terrible songs, omg, my ear cry). We dont produce good songs anymore...just the olds keep doing the good work, like: Ultraje a Rigor and Roupa Nova. Our rock is dying very quickly.

Felipe Amorim I understand. We haven't had anything but pop over here for a long time. I don't listen to anything new any more either, just old stuff. Queen, U2, Annie Lennox, Hendrix, Pink Floyd, George Michael, The Police, Bjork, etc. ^_^
