Me too, i had one of the later models 1980 . Passed my test on it , used to go everywhere on it . Had loads of bikes since but always have a soft spot for this one , and the sound is just divine when you go through town and it reverberates off the buildings . Mine was white with a black stripe on the tank .Happy days .
I had two of these the S1 and the Kh...the S1 was just a little faster...love the sound and pop a wheelie easy ...but wore out chains and sprockets very fast...❤
I had one for the summer of ‘76. I took it to Glasgow from the south coast. I followed my parents in their car as we went north for a holiday. Specific memories: 1. It took until Birmingham to clear the pipes from all the accumulated two stroke oil. It stopped smoking then and ran so clean and true it was incredible. 2. While Britain burnt in the hottest summer on record. Hampshire was the colour of straw, Carlisle was greener than green - now there’s a place where it always rains. 3. M74 Carlisle to Glasgow: my mum forgot how fast a Hillman Avenger could go and blithely cruised it at 85mph all the way as I crouched down howling near the redline to keep up. 4. Final note. On that fateful run I fell off the bike in Glasgow, exhausted not crashed, and reached for my Scottish/English phrase book to ask for some water to clean my visor. My whole body was covered in dead flies and I could barely see through the visor. In summer 2022 I could ride 150 miles round the south of England and my visor (and screen) would be untouched by any insect debris whatsoever. We’ve certainly killed our bees and insects in the passing 46 years…..
I had a green one, thirty-odd years ago. Rode it from Lancashire to the highlands of Scotland without missing a beat. Would dearly love another. However, it's going to cost silly money, and my wife would cut my spuds off if I bought it!
I wish I still had mine.
