go talk to mattel about that there the reason this franchise is where it was to where it is now. before season 22 the franchise really felt like it was climbing it’s way back up but then mattel dragged it back down even lower to hit era’s level and that’s really sad when you think.
Here’s what I’d personally do: Wave 3: Duck Donald Douglas Oliver Green Express Coaches (One Composite & Brake Salty Mavis Spencer Destinations: The Sodor Suspension Bridge with exclusives such as Red Express coaches (same treatment as the ones on wave 3) and maybe a face variant of Henry, Gordon or James A Windmill set that’s based off any of the intros and maybe with a variant of Toby Ffarquhar Quarry with an exclusive Troublesome Truck variant and maybe that standard rolling stock/car/wagon where you insert those little tablets Sets: Probably something like either a 0, 6 or 9 piece track set (6 or 9 can have sidings) featuring a variant of Edward and again that standard rolling stock/car/wagon where you insert those little tablets and maybe that’s where you can only get a brake van Expansion Sets: Probably one that has to do with raising the tracks for either connecting with or to make bridges I really hope that one Farmer McColl set comes out but with someone else other than Thomas.
Honestly, another big problems is that it wasn’t really advertised. I haven’t heard about this new line until I saw a UA-cam video about it. As for the online shopping, it doesn’t really effect me because most of the toy stores in my area don’t even sell wooden railway. Online shopping is kinda one of the big reasons toys r us original stores closed.
Mattel’s problem is they are too conservative and want Thomas the tank engine to be everything else in the world except what it is, talking trains. Literally every post Magic Railroad Thomas merchandise except wooden railway and model railways can try turn Thomas into hot wheels which is clearly more popular than Thomas and hot wheels is Mattel’s biggest priority. I firmly believe Mattel should liquidate the distressed asset that is Thomas the tank engine and sell it to a consortium of Asian toy companies like TOMY and Bandai
Mattel should NEVER have been allowed ANYWHERE NEAR Thomas. Yes, when they bought the franchise it was able to transition out of the shit writing Sharon Miller forced on us, but after a handful of good seasons with Andrew Brennar has head writer, we got BWBA and now AEG, which made the HiT era look like the pre-Gullane seasons! I know Mattel are making a killing with the Barbie movie, but with Thomas now in such a dire state, it's clear they are NOT the right people to be in charge of THIS IP! With ITV having just closed their Citv channel here in the UK, I'd like Channel 4 to re-enter the kids TV space, and as part of their push (if they decide to take my suggestion onboard and get back into kids TV), I'd like Channel 4 to buy Thomas from Mattel and put the pre-Gullane seasons back on TV! (The original cuts, NOT those goof-laced remasters used for later DVDs!) All Engines Go NEEDS TO END, it's WORSE THAN PEPPA PIG!
Also Toys R Us is still in Canada and Japan and they did return to the US albeit they don’t have much variety considering that they’re in Macy’s now (ironic if I’m honest)
Not every single advertising for those toys were seen on tv cable, And apparently they were exclusive to Amazon, barnes n nobles, and toys r us ones but not target, Walmart, even etc stores, i was glad i got thomas and Percy bith of them
We need so much new TWR trains and sets. The new models look great, but their wheels are so wide that they get caught on anything from bridges to crossings. I miss seeing entire sections of wooden trains. The only Thomas stuff I see at Walmart is All Engines Go crap. Sell the TWR rights. Give it to someone WHO GIVES A DAMN ABOUT THE LINE! I wish I could buy Thomas off Mattel, not only would I axe and disvow AEG, I'd give Thomas the reboot it deserves, let Tomy take over the motorized and die cast ranges (they bought Ertl at one point) and let Brio relaunch their wooden Thomas range!
I still hope we get a Day out with Thomas engine each year. I also would like to think Mattel will still have the TWR products available at each DOWT event. They’d be stupid not to.
I can't find any of the 2022 stuff in the UK apart from some very niche shops which are very expensive, its really disappointing as I have a son whose just finding his love for thomas.
i have to collect some more in the near future. i havent seen wooden engines this good in a long time. i wish there was a turn table big enough for the big engines like gordon and henry to be able to be turned rotated
With this movie your talking about I hope it’s true because it has been cancelled for years but I’m hoping this movie will be true and I pray this wooden railway line of toys continues at least it made a comeback showing Mattel it’s a better brand name than Thomas wood
I blame Mattel's hatred for Thomas for why Thomas Wooden Railway has no new items other than the Day Out With Thomas Model in 2023. Since late 2017, Mattel has been trying to send Thomas to the scrapyard by making decisions that hurt his career more than help it; pulling the TV show from PBS, replacing Thomas Wooden Railway with Thomas Wood, pulling Edward and Henry from the Steam Team in favor of Nia and Rebecca making DVD releases more scarce, the All Engines Go! spin-off, disassociating themselves from the very community that watches Thomas' show and buys his merchandise, blocking uploads of classic Thomas and Shining Time Station episodes from UA-cam, and a lack of new releases from the Thomas Wooden Railway revival line. If I were running the Thomas Wooden Railway revival line, I'd have had new models of characters like Duck, Donald, Douglas, Oliver, and Toad released months ago. I personally feel Thomas' days with Mattel are numbered and that Thomas' quality can only improve if another company acquires the license, like Orbrium. Not only does Orbrium make their products specifically with Thomas Wooden Railway in mind, but they released several promising new products this year; new unpainted engines for the fans to customize as they please, train sets involving a medieval castle and a national park with a spiral mountain, and a track maintenance crew which I did a Wooden Railway discussion on. Said discussion also includes links to two petitions to get Thomas back on the right track; one to get Mattel to stop blocking uploads of classic Thomas and Shining Time Station episodes from UA-cam, and one to get Orbrium to acquire the Thomas license.

I find your argument on what's currently available to be poor. You say that in comparison, the Wooden Railway line in 1995 had more available, in comparison to what's currently available in this "reboot" line, and it's a good point. But look at any other Thomas line being released by Mattel, Trackmaster, Diecast, etc, NONE of those lines have a variety even close to this. Also don't you think its a bit of a stretch to compare an independent toy company in 1995, to a mega corporation in 2023? Learning Curve had a lot more freedom to design and release stuff as it was litearly being made by them. Mattel has so many different stems of the company and zero of that freedom.
'1995 vs 2023' misses a much larger picture too: the market for physical toys simply isn't what it used to be. Video games and other similar things have all taken massive leaps since the 1990s. While putting a bunch of wooden trains was a very common move for parents of 90s, nowadays the same sort of parent may instead toss an iPad which can show a movie or display a game in front of the kids instead. The iPad is far more versatile. While not obsolete, Wooden Railway in 2023 faces a considerably different field to work for sales. I go far enough back to remember Mattel pursuing the 'Hot Wheels World' concept and then abandoning it after a horrid CEO selection around 2000. HW never regained what it had then. With that in mind, I would personally label WR's future prospects as bleak.
