Joe Namath on the national broadcast of this game not even trying to hide his emotions on that Eason to Townsell TD pass, "Haha. oh that feels good". LOL
Broadway Joe never let his feelings for the Jets be hidden. Even at almost 80 now and all these years since retiring he is the teams #1 Ambassador and has always truly loved the franchise as he does with Alabama, ROLL TIDE
@ sports 1 I was just wondering if had any 1988 and 1988 Minnesota Vikings and 1988 green bay packers game because I have couple request of game from those season
Havnt seen this game since it aired way back in 89. Not a good game for my Jets, after back to back wins in Weeks 12 & 13 Jets got pummeled in their last 3 weeks of 89 finishing 4-12. This was bad but their Week 16 loss to Buffalo at home was one of the worst games I ever remember the franchise playing and that’s saying a lot with their history. The Bills won 37-0 and it probably want even THAT close they were so bad. 😂😞
I remember the Buffalo 89 game or games really as Buffalo won something like 34-3 or so in Buffalo early in that year & the final home (game period) game of the season was a disaster, one of the smallest crowds to ever show up for a Jets game at the Meadowlands, maybe 10,000 at best showed up. It was a freezing cold day, a terrible team finishing out another terrible season and I think it was Christmas Eve that final Sunday in 89. At long last Joe Walton (JOE MUST GO) finally was fired after 89, how he survived 7 seasons as Jets HC I still don't know. Only good seasons he had with a very talented team (at least through 83-87) was 85 & 86 and in 86 the Jets had a 10-1 record and then lost 5 straight to end that year. Did win the wildcard game vs KC but then the collapse in Cleveland blowing the 20-10 lead with 4 mins left and lost in double OT.
@@bonanzabear288 Agreed. Beating the Giants in the '88 finale and keeping them out of the playoffs helped him (how did Walton beat Parcells in a game that Parcells needed)? But other than '85 their December record under Walton really said it all. Other than '89 when the wheels came off and their core of the previous decade had completely changed over, they were in the mix just about every year of his tenure. As you mentioned they had some of the best talent in the league during those years but there was always something that derailed them, usually injuries. They were also consistently among the most penalized teams in the league, which I attribute mostly to Shula. In '83 they never really got going after coming off an AFC Title Game appearance in '82 after which Michaels was fired, but lost their last two after being 7-7. In '84 they actually won a December game and barely against a horrible Buffalo team, but squandered a 6-2 start to finish 7-9. In '86 of course they lost their last five when their entire front seven was injured and Walton played his musical quarterbacks. In '87 they lost their last four after being 6-5 and in the running in a wide open division ultimately won by Indianapolis at just 9-6. In '88 they won their last two but of course after they were all but eliminated. For me it was the tie and loss with a fifth place schedule to a 4-11-1 Kansas City team that was inexcusable. They blew leads in both games, including being up 10 late at KC. The tie at home was when Walton refused to attempt the field goal in overtime and McNeil fumbled. Nowadays he'd have been fired in-season maybe as early as when they started losing in '84. Just all around hilarity when he lasts that long after Walt Michaels had the team trending upwards and the players really liked playing for him. Then some years later Pete Carroll is replaced after just one year and somehow Kotite was hired after losing his last seven in Philadelphia. Then Kotite actually gets TWO years despite presiding over the worst football this franchise had ever seen, which is really saying something. I think the '95 team was worse than the 1-15 '96 squad because the '96 team blew a number of leads and was competitive for most of the season. I think Walton ended up as the OC in Pittsburgh in '90 (and maybe '91 too) and they didn't score a single offensive TD for the first four weeks. Sounds about right...
Speaking of the ‘88 Giants, I read that they themselves admitted to blowing that “trap game” against the Jets and coughing up the division to Philly as a result. Considering the way ‘88 ended for the Jets, I wonder if anyone in the offseason saw the dropoff coming.
Man thank you so much I have been looking for this match up for years. Awesome find.
Thanks for the upload Sports !

@@steves9964I enjoyed all that info. Thanks for your perspective.
@@shanetrimble9265 Thank you! It's fun to re-live the misery of Decembers past.

Matt Stafford passes the ball way better than Everett.
