Anti was a brilliant keeper for a couple of years. Our best keeper during the last 20 years at southampton. Infact, probably our best keeper since shilton.
Great to see Antii Niemi. What a great goal keeper he was, absolutely brilliant. Is he still at Brighton? One of my best mates is an ex Brighton player & travels down every year for their annual Charity game.
Always highly rated him, his reflexes and shot stopping abilities were phenomenal! 🧤🇫🇮 I’m not sure if he is still a goalkeeping coach there now but he is very well respected in football, that’s cool that you have a good friend that used to play for Brighton! 😃👍
@@TheBosmanViewing he was @ Brighton when David Taylor was the manager, Ricky had been @ Derby with him & Brian Clough before Cloughy & Taylor parted ways. Quite a few interesting stories as you can imagine. The annual Charity game at Brighton is held in memory of a supporter who worked in the Twin Towers, he didn't survive, so it's in a good cause. I was a goalkeeper myself way back, played for a minor club, who wouldn't agree to releasing me for trials with much bigger clubs, such as Arsenal, there were quite a few clubs up in Scotland, including Dunfermline Athletic, for whom my Uncle had played for, again a Goalkeeper. St Mirren also, I think Archie Gemmil was still at the club then. Millwall was another English club but it wasn't to be I ended up concentrating on my studies but love the football, to be more precise, the Art of Goalkeeping. I could say a lot more but it would be a book. 🤣
@@janoginski5557 That sounds like quite a journey in football! 🙂 as a goalkeeper yourself you will probably appreciate the details that Niemi had in his game👍 if you ever find some time we have a video on Gigi Buffon’s career that you may enjoy 🙂🙌
@@TheBosmanViewing cheers for getting back. Gigi one of our all-time hero's, I will definitely check that out. Both myself & my son are big fans. I've a few, Neville Southall, Iker Cassiles, prob spelt that wrongly, Chilavert. A big list, Lev Yashin was my big hero, I did see him play, that'll tell you how ancient I am. I did some coaching did my UEFA B licence, a long time ago. Did some coaching with Ian Turner, who went to Everton & Craig Gordon, Craig was @ Hearts at the time & Ian at Stirling Albion, both about 16 at the time. I was asked very recently to coach at another senior club up here in Scotland but unfortunately I'm really too busy. My family in my Mum's side were sports mad, my mum's bro played rugby in the morning & then for Dunfermline in the afternoon. Bill was a great keeper, he was famous for among other things his ability to kick the football the total length of the pitch, apparently he used to get great cheers when he did so, now you might say big deal but I remember what the old, "dubbined", footballs were like, brutal. It's remarkable what the players could do back then considering the footwear & the footballs, never mind the condition of the pitches. Sandy Archibald was a close friend of the Family, very famous old Rangers player & Charlie, " Happy Feet, Napier, a famous old Celtic player & many others. So the football in particular & the sporty thing definitely runs in the old DNA.
@@janoginski5557 wow that’s great to hear, definitely a football and sports family through and through! I remember watching Craig Gordon in his early days at Hearts always thought he was and still is a great keeper. Lev Yashin is an absolute legend Ballon d’Or Winner 🙌

His reflexes and shot stopping ability were fantastic 🙌
He's not finished, he's only 28
I still laugh whenever I listen to that phone in 😅
Loved him @ the JT's, easily the best I have seen, CG comes a close second..
He was an amazing keeper! His reflexes were unbelievable at times, I agree he was brilliant for Hearts 👍
