The Cape Cod and New Bedford Railway
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 лис 2022
- This video captures the flavour of a model railroad that used to exist in Alberta, Canada. Named the Cape Cod and New Bedford Railway, it represented scenes from the New Haven Railroad’s’s Old Colony division in Southeastern Massachusetts, USA in the early Fifties. From its start in New Bedford, with its huge factories, to the sand dunes of the outer Cape, an effort was made to capture the likeness of key bridges, structures and scenic landscapes. Favourites were the scratch-built Hyannis roundhouse, old buildings, 4 railroad bridges and Hyannis water towers. It was a wonderful way to bring childhood memories and tidbits of information to life.
Modellers may be interested to note the partially tri-level layout was built in HO scale, using 450 feet of Code 70 and Code 100 track, in a 17x12/15 foot room. Taking 7 years to build to this stage, it was not completed owing to a move. Operations occupied 4 people for over 2 hours, using manifests generated by JMRI. Warm and special thanks to the many friends who contributed, as this layout could never have come to fruition without them.

Goes without saying this is a super layout. Really like the lumber yard.
As someone who lives the towns between Barnstable and New Bedford, I must say you really captured the look of old Cape Cod. P-town and the Turo dunes are amazing. Some of your cape houses are right out of an Edward Hopper painting. Also, a good representation of the mills of New Bedford.
So pleased to hear that. I spent my childhood summers in Gray Gables across the canal- Dean
wow i really love this, almost has an architecture model feel to the whole layout, very inspirational, the layout almost feels apart of the home, rather than stuck inside a room, so clean and so tastefully designed.
Spectacular!😊
great layout. Really nice use of a multitude of modeling techniques for the structures.
That’s a very nice layout
Congratualtions on 7.2k views. Well deserved exposure for your vision, Dean.
Thank you so much
Hi Dean:
Thank you for the guided tour of your layout and the local history lesson. I'm on the left coast. We operate a O gauge layout in the basement of our church. Ninety nine percent of our trains are MTH. Model railroading is a great hobby no matter what scale you operate.

I heard about a model railroader who ran his layout through the back of his house and out over his swimming pool. He called his railroad the Cape Cod and Continental Shelf.
Very nice.
Very nice layout! Thanks for the tour!
Great layout, I really admire your attention to detail.
Awesome job!!!
awesome job! Looks great!
Excellent
Beautiful layout. Amazing work. Well done.
Great work on these scenes. I live on Cape Cod and spent a lot of time traveling between the tip of P-Town and Woods Hole in Falmouth and your details in this build is remarkable for the time period. Thanks for bringing my area to life in this model railroad build. Very Well Done!!!
One of the best layout tours I have seen. I hope you will share more about the shelf layout design and construction. The layout has such a neat and clean look.
I always thought the New Haven railroad was interesting
Super layout, Dean.
What was the opening music on this?
