I love your external thoughts regarding the nail polish colors and how it performs. It really shows how much of a perfectionist you are. As for which polish depicts the story of Persephone and the seasons throughout the year, I haven’t thought much of it, however the story was one of my favorite of the Greek/Roman mythology while in elementary/middle school.
Thank you! I got hyperfixated on the story of Persephone, and that lead to a spiral of research and trying to make a connection. I think this mainly happened because of the way Michelle was portraying the collection as a labor of love, and I was trying to piece her information with the story of Persephone and well here we are haha
Thank you for the swatches and your commentary! I've been looking for a high quality swatcher with a skin tone similar to mine. Your thoughts on The Trouble with Immortality helped me out a ton since I was on the fence on getting that one for the same reason!
aw thank you! it's one of the main reasons i want to do more full on swatches - i also struggle in finding someone in the same tone range do swatches. i'm glad i was able to help!
I liked your video!! So interesting listening to your thoughts. I usually just pick colors based on color and formula not the theme… so I must say… 4 coats?! I don’t ever use 3 😅
I'm with you on picking up base on colors/formula. Realistically I'd only pick 2 or 3 of the polishes as a consumer, but since this was sent to me I swatched all of them. Yeah, four coats for my thumb, my other fingers will probs need way less - they're also not as textured as my thumbs are. It probably wouldn't take four coats if I did a blurring base coat - but I feel that having that on while swatching doesn't showcase how the polish actually works as it would on non-polished nails.
Fabulous video! I’m very familiar with the myth of Persephone but I still loved hearing your piecing it together with the names. Great details of formula qualities and those closeups too. Also THANK YOU for mentioning the copper bits in Devil’s Ivy because I keep seeing them in swatch photos but nobody (including Mooncat) has mentioned them?! Felt a little crazy 😅
haha thank you so much, i wanted to make sure i understood the theme, but with there being so many variations for the story, i kind of stuck with the one from oxford encyclopedia. YESS i was so shocked they didn't mention the little red/copper bits, i still to this day don't know what they do lol, they're extra pizzaz
I was taught the story of Persephone in elementary school. We had a whole semester where we studied mythology. Find it so fascinating. It makes sense it was released in winter, as that is the season that Persephone is in Hades. The whole earth (her mother, Demeter) mourns when she is in Hades for the winter months. That's why everything dies in winter, because Persephone is in Hades and her mother Demeter is mourning and won't let anything grow.
Right! I'm sure I was taught it in school at some point, but oof - history was never my strong suit as a child 🫣 math and arts, those were it for me haha
Love Mooncat! I have ridges too so I use the getting even primer to cut back on the coats, it works great and I think it helps with the nail line as well. Will buy the collection but going to wait for their sale. Want the rewards this month (I use this as excuse to buy more polish) so will hit the minimum for free shipping-got to save where I can as they’re a little pricey but sooo worth it since they have such unique and gorgeous polishes! Thanks for your review 😻
Yeah, in theory I would also wear a blurring base coat too, but for swatches I feel it's best to see them in their raw performance versus with enhancers like a blurring base coat. Definitely wait for the sale!! They're excellent at restocking items that were sold out or are low before the sales!
Some myths say Persephone fell in love with Hades eventually, but most don't touch on that. Either way, I found this an odd theme for Valentine's since he kidnapped her, held her hostage, and tricked her into eating a fruit that would trap her in the Underworld. It's a gorgeous collection, but it doesn't work as a Valentine's theme for me!
yeah, and i think because of that i had a hard time wrapping my head on why they're calling it a love letter to themselves collection. i was already overthinking it and i needed to stop myself from spiraling lol
