Is the crown made of pure gold? An ancient Greek king needs to know if he's been cheated by a goldsmith. He summons Archimedes, who decides to use density to determine the metal. But how can he determine the volume of the crown? He realizes that the amount of water his body displaces in the bath tub can tell him the volume. Upon discovering this, he runs naked through the streets, shouting, "Eureka!"

This was a perfect video! And just in case anyone was wondering... with pure water 1ml equals 1g, and that is how he could determine the weight/mass. Other liquids have different densities, so it only works with pure water! Awesome video :)

It should be said that there is an important remark to make!
"Liquids are incompressible".This is highly important in hydraulics as well.
The liquids don't allow extra space and if you apply a force (by pressing) at one end the liquid will transmit the force entirely at the other end.

Seriously my problem is firguring out how much may have been replaced by say silver....with two equations...I was trying to figure how much copper and how much zinc were in a penney by knowing the volume and total density...

Like you said in your video: there are other ways he might have done this. The difference in displacement would have been very hared to measure. The other way is that he balanced the two crowns on a beam and then submerged both of them into water. The less less dense or adulterated one would have risen and the pure gold one would have submerged more. I have done this with blocks of metals with similar densities where the displacement volume was almost immeasurable and it works quite well. Nice video though.
