- !!DISCLAMER!! This animatic contains some headcannons and events that I've created from my own interpretation of MCSM. Please be aware of this fact.
This animatic follows the development of Jesse and Petra's friendship throughout events from the game. Petra's closest friends, including Jesse, start to get older and go down different paths of life from hers. Petra pushes away these feelings, but the longer this goes on, the more paranoid and worried she becomes that she will end up being all alone again, just as she was before she met Jesse and her friends. But through trials and conversations, the girls learn to reestablish where they are in their relationship, and confirm that no matter how far away their life's callings take them, their bond is true and unbreakable.
When I first heard this song and listened to the lyrics, I thought it fit RIDICULOUSLY well with the way I percieved Jesse and Petra's relationship story, so I immediately wanted to make something for it. Because this song was so long, this animatic project was by far the most ambitious thing I've ever made and I personally have never been more proud :]

I still love how this fandom is still kicking after five years since Above and Beyonds release, this was so freaking cute, Jesse giving Petra a hug was so sweet!
I can agree. The MCSM fanbase is still alive 8 years after the release of the first episode of season one and like you said, 5 years after above and beyonds release.

Oh my gosh, this is amazing. So many things I have to talk about here. The pain you portrayed here is so real, Petra feeling abandoned and Romeo using it to his advantage, because he knows how it feels and he knows how it can twist a person's mind. And the moment when the two hugged . . . gosh, I almost cried. The look of disgust and anger on Romeo's face, and then the way you focus in on him (real cool effect), and that fury dissipates into sadness, because he misses the love and affection of his own former friends . . . GAH IT HIT SO HARD. I personally never thought they were childhood friends, but this is so cute I could see it working that way. Also, the pure rage on Petra's face when she started attacking. Hurt, rage, and brokenness, all because of a misunderstanding and a fear of being abandoned. This is . . . ART.
I genunaly love seeing peoples head-cannons. This is one of my favourites. But in my head cannon jesse still goes with petra at the emd of season 2 :)
Same. Tbh I thought she did in this video (because in the game, Petra walks ahead for a while until Jesse catches up) until I read the Google Doc lol. But I kind of still like to imagine that even in this video, she does.

Okay, this was a lovely animatic, everything about it was great! I first got into MCSM back in 2016, and I was obsessed with the game. Petra was always my favorite character, and I never liked how the fandom tended to portray her in a negative light (particularly when Season 2 was coming out) I feel like through Season 2, I quickly 'got' that Petra was just lonely and struggling with change and abandonment issues (gotta say this, Petra always reminded me so much of Chloe Price from Life Is Strange, especially during Season 2, and Petra/Jesse's relationship remind me of Chloe/Max) I was totally not expecting to see a animatic like this about Minecraft Story Mode in 2022, but it's a real treat. Nice to know that the game does live on in some way and does get remembered respectfully, despite ending and getting discontinued years ago.

I agree entirely, man. Ever since I got into MCSM some three years ago, Petra has _always_ been my favourite character. She is _way_ too over-hated in Season 2 - sure, she could've handled it a bit better by telling Jesse that she was going on that adventure with Jack, but it's pretty frustrating when it seems like people don't understand where she's coming from - even though it was directly stated in the game - or that spending 5-7 years lonely in the mines (yes, that was the timeskip between the two seasons confirmed by the head writer) would make you think think that your friends have stopped caring about you.
Even more so if it's after the cabin scene, when she has major character development, when she learns that her friends _do_ care about her, that change is okay, and turns around. (That's what I love most about Petra: she's a very flawed, complex, endearing character, and - in my opinion - has one of the best character arcs in the game.)
I haven't seen Life Is Strange, but after what you said about Chloe being similar to Petra, I think I'll have to give it a go sometime - if I'm allowed to, haha. (Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure I've heard that before on the head writer's Tumblr page. Something about them both acting tough as a way of deflecting fears and anxieties below the surface?)
I'd apologise for the essay-sized comment, but I've written them way too often to even care anymore. But if the comment is cringey, it's because I'm kinda tired and can't think straight, so I _will_ apologise about that.
@@randomality77I get it, I have the tendency to leave essay-sized comments on quite a few videos too. Some people see it as rambling, but I like people sharing their full thoughts as opposed to a generic comment.
I feel like many people will just dislike a character just because they're not consistently happy and optimistic, and they have flaws. Petra was definitely one of those characters that got overlooked by a lot, the latter not stopping to think about her, and her character.
I think Petra was going to tell Jesse about going on the adventure with Jack,
because Nell told Jesse Petra was looking for her. I assume Petra wanted to tell Jesse about her plans, but she just happened upon Jesse while she was talking with Nurm, and that made the whole situation feel awkward and off-putting.
And if you can't play Life Is Strange, try to watch a playthrough on it. I won't spoil, but will say that Chloe is pretty much Petra. I am very familiar with Petra and Chloe as characters, and the similarities between them has always been on my mind. Back years ago, I even joked about Petra being Chloe reincarnated, as bizarre and as unlikely as that idea is.

Honestly, I feel people should love and relate to her MORE in S2. I mean, has none of the fandom ever experienced loneliness or what??
Also, it's heavily implied that Petra was going to tell Jesse about the adventure in the next few minutes--Champion City was the real thing she could've handled better imo.

I just rewatched this and holy cow it’s even better than I remember. I love the way you draw these characters it feels as tho you know them as well as the creators do!! And the song, THE SONG!!! It fits Petra’s storyline SO WELL ITS UNCANNY. I teared up rewatching this, because I’m about to graduate high school and I’ve moved away and it’s really reminded me of how many friendships of mine have sort of drifted off over time. I love the way you used the scene with Jesse and Petra fighting and found a way to integrate it into her character arc too!! It hits so many more emotional beats than even the actual game. Well done!! 👏

Tbh I wish that mcsm was able to have us see Petra’s story more, because tbh, when I first played season 2 I thought she was being overly selfish with what she wanted from her friends, which made me annoyed I can’t lie🫣. Since then, I’ve realized why she acted the way she did and she easily ranked higher in my favorite character list.
However, I wish we got backstory on the main five! Lord knows I’d love some background on Jess(i)e, Lukas, Olivia, Axel, etc.
I digress, this is awesome! I especially love the small detail of Romeo reminiscing. Such a small thing but it does so much ❤️🧡

I definitely agree with not understanding Petra's intentions before truly doing a deeper analysis on her character, and liking her more because of it!

Yesss! I totally agree. I never understood why Petra acted like that in Season 2 and I thought she just wanted to betray her friends or something. But the way she told it in this video...😭😭😭😭😭I love it! And I love the friendship between the 5 friends, even Ivor too. If she does more videos like this based on each character's history/life etc based on Season 1 and 2, I think she should probably do Lucas next, or maybe Jesse and Ruben. But I'm sure whatever she does will be amazing!😆❤

Okay, I've watched this SO MANY TIMES since I first saw it like, 6 months or more ago, so thoughts have been boiling in my head this whole time.
This song fits ridiculously, scarily well with MCSM. In fact, just about all your stuff is like that. I love this. It's my favorite thing on UA-cam--no--probably the whole Internet.
When I first watched this, at the "why do you insist on wearing clothes" part, I thought "well.... you've got a point." And that it fit well with Petra being... how do I say this... not a person who talks about her emotions?
You have brought back and increased my desire to give Petra a hug if we make her the champion. JACK gets a hug, so why can't Petra too????
You've also inspired the headcannon that Romeo told Petra/Jack to kill Jesse in an attempt to justify his own murder-of-friend.
And ... I don't see the "childhood friends" relationship between them. The way Petra acts in the first episode, I couldn't think of it as anything more than childhood acquaintances, if they knew each other then. It's true they became super close later on. On a random note, I think the "Petra cut her hair between seasons" headcannon is kind of funny. I looked at both seasons of Petra and saw no difference in her hair, but quite a few people headcannon it.
Oh yeah, and when I first watched this, when Romeo looked away after Jesse and Petra hugged, my thought was something like "that was mastery."
P. S. "You've caught me in an awkward situation with unwanted attention and a need for explanation" is so very Petra in just about every S2 episode. There was one more thing I was going to say, but I can't remember it rn so I'll add it later.
