    Some Final Observations/Mistakes I Made:
    The steering cables should have been actual steel cable rather than paracord. The steering handle should have been metal instead of PVC. If i'd done that the steering rig would've worked flawlessly.
    I should have put a clutch on it.
    There needs to be some way of locking the motor in the "down" position, so the prop doesn't pop up out of the water constantly.
    Otherwise, this thing more or less worked.

    Makes no sense that this video is not getting out there. 8 hours since it went up, should at the very least have 80k views. Even if the almighty UA-cam machine is not smiling on this video, I assure you, it is something to be very proud of. My friends are into your channel now also and they agree.

    Have you considered upgrading your kayak by filling sections of it with buoyant foam? It would also allow you to create waterproof/fireproof cavities that are inside the body of the kayak (using fireproofing orange foam or just using some diy sodium bicarbonate based mixture possibly?). The thought occurred to me for more than one reason too - aside from just the benefit of buoyancy and stability alone, it would then allow you to shore up the cling wrap skin with a diy shell that doesn’t degrade as quickly (like a paper-machete balloon except with something like a custom epoxy instead of newspaper and glue). Not to mention that if you can make contained cavities for battery storage, you could also put a drive shaft (or NOT a drive shaft - but the prop shaft) on the underside of the vessel running from front to back - allowing you to mount the engine in front of you (preferably with a layer of foam separating you and it under the deck of the kayak - which would require you to increase the length of the vessel unless you wanted it to obstruct your ability to see while driving it). Idk. Those are my initial, fun, dangerous, stupid, educated thoughts.
    Side note - you could still mount the engine behind you and accomplish this with a differential gearbox (especially if you wanted to have two props side by side). If you could figure out a way to slow one prop that would make steering virtually effortless. It would feel like the difference between driving a car with power steering vs not. But also, if you just had the one prop you could also just use a rudder so that the engine isn’t having to be jostled and moved haphazardly with every single turn

      The main problem with a cling wrap kayak is the water penetrates the layers. Foam would help keep it floating but the cling wrap would still waterlog and degrade. Basically the base material isn’t worth building onto except for stupids sake

    Since the boat is very light, you can try a lithium-ion battery and a large propeller fan. Use a life jacket, helmet and beware of angry sharks.😄

    Motor is mounted way to high and prop isn't getting down in the water far enough and all you would have to do to correct the backward steering is to cross the steering lines through a center eye bolt and swap thr parachord out with a coated steel cable like a clothes line cable or a dog lead cable

    The problem with the weedwacker setup was yes the clutch, but it wasnt really from it being cheap, no your propeller was just too large, it created too much resistance, witch caused the clutch to slip.

    • @jakemakes
      @jakemakes  Рік тому

      Which is another way of saying the clutch was too weak
